Contest Rules for Volunteer Cookie Contest

This is going to be a lot of fun, and we want everyone to come and enjoy all the fun tastes that you have to offer! Although we want to focus on the fun, unfortunately we have to make sure we remind everyone of a few rules and requests to ensure that the judging is fair and efficient.

1.  All cookies must be homemade but it is not necessary that the participant develop the recipe. Please make sure you cite the complete source of the recipe if it is not your own.
2. Please do not submit anything that requires refrigeration.
3. Cookies may be any shape or type (drop, bar, rolled, no-bake, etc.).
4. Ingredient list MUST be emailed to garrett.zaffke@co.dakota.mn.us. (to display for allergy purposes). If you are willing to share your recipes, we will post the top three in an upcoming newsletter to our volunteers.
5. Make smaller cookies so that there are lots of bite-sizes for tasting. (Voting is done by the public, not judges!) Furnish approx. 80-100 cookies for public tasting.
6. All submissions will become property of Dakota County Volunteers.
7. Contestants may work individually (16 and older) or as a family. All entrants will be required to fill out a registration form.
8. All entrants are encouraged (but not necessary) to present your cookie at a designated table during the event.
9. All cookies submitted will be used for public sampling. Extra cookies are welcomed to help support the event.

Contest Day:

• Check-in is at 9:30 AM in the Commons Area of the Dakota County Lodge. Please be on time. The contest will run from 10:00 am - 12:00pm. Winners will be announced at 12:30 pm.
• The Contest Representative is Garrett Zaffke.
• You will be judged on taste and appearance by the general public. Each person will receive three tickets in which they are able to vote on which cookies they enjoyed the most.
• The Contest Representative will tally all of the ballots. The contestants with the highest ticket count will be the winners.
PRIZES WILL BE ANNOUNCED THE DAY OF THE CONTEST. Awards will be for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place by public choice.

The Event management shall not be responsible for accidents or losses that may occur to any of the exhibitors or exhibits at the Event. The exhibitor (or parent or guardian of a minor) is responsible for any injury or damage resulting from the exhibitor’s participation in the program or event. This includes any injury to others or to the exhibitor or to the exhibitor’s property.
