Join us for an upcoming informational session about becoming a mentor at Kids 'n Kinship! See below for a complete list of upcoming sessions.
Mentors are always needed for children in the Dakota County community. There are currently nearly 40 children waiting to be matched with a supportive adult, and 30 of those children are boys.
This is an ongoing weekly volunteer opportunity with a minimum one-year commitment.
What it's all about:
Kids 'n Kinship is a 50-year-old, non-profit organization that matches children, who have a need for an additional supportive relationship with carefully screened adult volunteers. Volunteers spend one hour per week with the child out in the community.
Kids 'n Kinship match individuals (21+), couples, or families with youth ages 5-16 in need of positive role model.
- We encourage low / no-cost activities like playing a board game, sledding, taking a trip to a park, bike riding, baking cookies, playing catch or going to the library
- We provide training and ongoing support and offer discounted passes to area attractions and events to make activities affordable
- Mentoring matches are made based on compatible personalities, ages and interests as well as preferences of both the volunteer mentor and the youth and parent/guardian.
Through their Mentor relationship, the child will form a long-term friendship with a caring adult, receive positive attention and develop the sense of self-worth that is essential to successfully function in life.
You can make a difference in the life of a child or teen living in Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Lakeville, or Rosemount!
