What We Do

Kids 'n Kinship provides mentoring friendships to youth ages 5-16 in need of a positive adult role model. Kids 'n Kinship seeks individuals (21+), couples, and family mentors to provide friendship to children living in Dakota County. Mentors spend time participating in activities like going to a park, making dinner together or exploring new adventures. Training and support are provided.

Kids 'n Kinship is:

  • A mentoring program matching trained adult volunteers with children in need of a caring, positive, and supportive relationship.
  • For children ages 5-16.
  • For individuals, couples or families who want to volunteer.
  • Volunteers sharing time and activities on a weekly basis.
  • Serving the communities of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Lakeville, Rosemount, Eagan, and Farmington
  • We also offer school-based and Pen Pal mentoring.

Through their Kinship relationship, the child will:

  • Form a long-term friendship with a caring adult.
  • Receive positive attention and experience with a variety of activities.
  • Develop the sense of self-worth that is essential to successfully functioning in school, in healthy relationships and eventually a job.

Kinship volunteers model:

  • Responsible citizenship and giving to the community while having fun!
  • Sharing skills and demonstrating responsibility for yourself and your family.

Mentoring is fun and rewarding and you can make a meaningful impact in the life of a child!
