Reading matters.
Reading is the foundation upon which all learning is built. Reading proficiency by third grade is the most important predictor of high school graduation and career success. Yet, every year more than 80 percent of low-income students miss this crucial milestone.
Unfortunately, a majority of elementary students in Minneapolis and St. Paul schools, more than 17,000 K-5th graders, are struggling with reading. This has major implications for these young people, their future, and the vibrancy of our community.
But together we can change the odds for these students!
Reading Partners is the only national nonprofit that supports students’ reading by engaging community volunteers to tutor students one-on-one at school with a proven curriculum. We launched in the Twin Cities in the fall of 2015 and today are serving 450 students at eleven schools throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul.
We’re just getting started and we need your help to expand.
