Get Involved with the CLUES "Canasta Familiar" Food Distribution Program!

Purpose of Position:
We have noticed a rising need for accessible healthy food in East St. Paul, CLUES is responding to that need by creating Pop-up Food Shelves on Monday evenings. The Food Shelf volunteers will provide support in sorting and distributing food items to all participants of the CLUES Pop-up food shelf. Volunteer will also welcome clients and participants to CLUES and be their guide while they shop in the Food Shelf. Our goal is to increase access to healthy food systems and consumption of fruits and vegetables that address food insecurity and other prevention risk factors in the community

Schedule:

  • Every Monday from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
    • Shift #1: 4pm-7pm
    • Shift #2: 5pm-8pm
    • Intake Shift (SPANISH REQUIRED): 4:30pm-7:30pm

Location(s): CLUES St. Paul: 797 East 7 Street, St. Paul, MN 55106

Responsibilities: volunteers may complete one or two of the below activities per shift.

Set Up & General Sorter

  • Set up tables and table tent assignments in respective pop up shop space/room
  • Se up trash, compost, recycle and plastic receptacles
  • Support unload cases from pallets after delivery and place in assigned location
  • Keep pathways clear and tidy
  • Break down boxes and box tops when empty
  • Handle product properly and ensure proper food storage and handling.

Produce Sorter

  • Pick through loose produce, sort accordingly
  • Properly dispose of bad produce
  • Bag loose items if necessary
  • Refill and refresh produce on distribution tables
  • Handle product properly and ensure proper food storage and handling

Table Sorter/Host

  • Sort product on table
  • Assist in distribution of items to shoppers

Refill and refresh product on distribution tables

  • Bag items if necessary
  • Ensure item limits per family/household
  • Handle product properly and ensure proper food storage and handling

Tear Down

  • Tear down tables
  • Wrap up and throw away trash, recycling and compost materials
  • Box up any left-over product at the end of distribution

CLUES reserves the right to terminate an internship or volunteer commitment if behavior is not in compliance with CLUES policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English and cultural competency required.
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds consistently.
  • Occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Mobility
  • Capacity to stand for several hours
  • Tact and Courtesy when dealing with the public.
  • Previous experience working with a diverse population.

Requirements & Training:

  • Attend a civil rights training with other pop-up food shelf volunteers
  • Attend the required CLUES Food Shelf Volunteer Orientation & Training
