Story Time is a non-profit whose mission is to empower students in Southeast Africa by removing barriers to education and inspiring community partnerships. When you work with Story Time, you become a part of a global network of storytellers; you become what we like to call a Co-Author. We believe that everyone has a valuable story to tell and that sharing these stories creates a more connected world where everyone belongs.  By becoming a part of the story as a volunteer, you and your fellow Co-Authors bring the world one step closer to this vision.

We are currently looking to expand in many exciting ways and we are looking for an Event Coordinator to join our team.

 

Details:

Story Time is looking for a fundraising and events coordinator who can manage calendars, plan outreach and donor events, coordinate outreach materials, perform clerical duties and act as a point of contact for outside donors, media personnel and vendors. This person will work in collaboration with the Grant Manager and our Business Development Manager. This volunteer opportunity is ideal for someone with a deep commitment to social justice who thrives both in team settings and in independent work, is highly self-motivated, and able to organize, plan, prioritize, and execute multiple duties with minimal supervision.

A strong candidate has proven success organizing events and developing and implementing donor strategies, solid writing skills, strong attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills.



Responsibilities:

  • Oversee pre-planning, invitations, staffing, materials, invites,venue coordination and post-event closeout.
  • Act as the main point of contact for vendors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Update donor database and coordinate mailings.
  • Arrange venue setup, seating, storage and all other functional details.
  • Formatting and confirm promotional content and materials.
  • Determine, solicit and track appropriate sponsorship for events.
  • Negotiate contract terms with vendors.
  • Schedule first meetings with donors and staff members.
  • Assist with event promotion.

 

The skills you need to excel in this position include:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Background in events and fundraising
  • Proficiency in SalesForce (Strongly preferred)
  • Excellent follow up abilities with vendors and donors
  • Proficient in Gmail, Google Docs and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to create outreach materials
  • Ability to manage time and work effectively
