St. Paul Public Housing Agency (PHA) is seeking volunteers to help adults and youth at two of our family housing developments: McDonough Homes on Timberlake and Mt. Airy Homes on Arch Street(all in the City of St. Paul). Some of our residents cannot afford a home computer or they do not have the skills to use a computer to meet personal goals, such as looking for a job. The PHA relies on volunteers to host 'Open Lab'. This is a great opportunity for a college student to complete community service hours for school or work, or a retired person to help someone with a need. Volunteers can use their technological skills to tutor users with limited knowledge of how to use the internet or software programs. Many of our public housing residents are immigrants with limited English proficiency. Your tasks may include: assist a resident in using a mouse, keyboarding, turning the processor on, troubleshoot printing issues or a software program that isn't working properly.
Qualifications: willingness and interest in working with non-English speaking residents is important. Experience and patience in providing IT support is valued. A criminal history background check will be required. Individuals who successfully pass a background check will be required to sign a volunteer agreement, complete data safety training and attend an orientation session prior to starting their actual volunteer hours. Please contact: Elizabeth Pacunas, Resident Initiatives Coordinator, at: 651-298-4929 or elizabeth.pacunas@stpha.org for more information and/or to submit your resume. Hours are flexible (weekdays during the day and evening). Must be 16 years and older to apply.
