Education:
- High School diploma preferred but not required
Experience:
- Prior volunteer and customer service experience preferred
- Prior experience providing excellent supportive care preferred but not required
Special Skills:
- Completes the hospice orientation program
- Ability to read people well and adapt to their needs to visit, complete tasks, or just listen depending on the day
- Willing to visit with family when needed
- Emotionally mature and dependable
- Understands and supports the hospice philosophy
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrates being dependable, cooperative, honest, empathetic, and non judgmental
- Active listener and willing to work under supervision
- Has not had a significant loss within the past year and is able to comfortably discuss prior losses, especially deaths of loved ones
- Comfortable interacting with individuals who are terminally ill or emotionally distraught
- Submits to any facility requirements – i.e. signing in or house rules such as taking off shoes at door of home
- Culturally sensitive to beliefs and values and is respectful of others views, belongings, and privacy
Other:
- Has access to adequate transportation to perform volunteer functions.
