Minnesota Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (MNVOAD) is the association of voluntary agencies and their partners involved in disaster response, recovery, and preparedness. MNVOAD works to foster more effective service to people who have, or may in the future be affected by disasters.

Dates: Winter and/or Spring Term 2018

MNVOAD seeks a special events intern to help plan and organize an annual conference. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of non-profit event planning, while gaining exposure to dozens of nonprofit organizations and emergency management agencies. This internship, although housed within Lutheran Social Service of MN, will support elected MNVOAD leadership from multiple agencies, with administrative tasks, logistics, planning, and preparation for the upcoming 2018 Annual VOAD Conference and subsequent membership events.

Primary Duties:       

  • Working closely with conference committee and attending inter-agency planning meetings
  • Organizing event agenda and schedule for conference
  • Assisting with setting up web-based registration for event attendees
  • Creating event fliers, brochures, and other publications
  • Maintaining regular event communications via social media and organizational newsletters
  • Corresponding with speakers, donors, and volunteers for logistical arrangements
  • Coordinating material preparation i.e. creation of packets and handouts
  • Assisting with and troubleshooting last minute event details
  • As needed, perform office support functions including supply organizing, meeting set-up, and copying
  • Other opportunities that may arise or spark interest

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office programs and with internet search and navigation
  • Experience organizing volunteers and/or events is a plus
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends preferred
