Minnesota Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (MNVOAD) is the association of voluntary agencies and their partners involved in disaster response, recovery, and preparedness. MNVOAD works to foster more effective service to people who have, or may in the future be affected by disasters.

    MNVOAD seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of marketing while gaining exposure to dozens of nonprofit organizations and emergency management agencies. This internship, although housed within Lutheran Social Service of MN, will support elected MNVOAD leadership from multiple agencies, developing new marketing strategies and updating existing communications platforms.

Primary Duties:

  • Update and maintain MNVOAD’s social media presence, particularly Facebook
  • Collaborate with MNVOAD Webmaster to reorganize and update the MNVOAD websits
  • Design flyers, e-vites and other marketing material for MNVOAD event
  • Collaborate with MNVOAD leadership on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communication
  • Assist in planning, writing and managing quarterly eNewslette
  • Engage with various project teams comprised of board members, partners, and volunteer
  • Help facilitate Marketing Committee meetings including distributing agenda and taking minute
  • As needed, perform office support functions including supply organizing, meeting set-up, and copyin
  • Other opportunities that may arise or spark interest

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
  • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English,

Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)

  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Knowledge of HTML and graphic design a plus
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends preferred
