Front Desk Volunteer Coverage, July and August
Join Us at the Front Desk!
This summer, the Our Saviour’s Housing Emergency Shelter is in transition, returning our operations to a newly renovated and expanded shelter facility at 2219 Chicago Avenue. While our staff manage the move, we need friendly volunteers to cover the front desk during key dates. This is an excellent way to contribute to our move without heavy lifting or long hours on your feet.
Dates and Locations:
July 17, 18, 30 and 31
Location: 2545 Portland Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55404
August 1, 4 and 5
Location: 2219 Chicago Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55404
Shift Options:
7:00 AM - 10:00 AM
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
What You’ll Do:
Greet shelter guests and visitors with warmth
Answer and route phone calls
Monitor the entrance to ensure a welcoming, safe environment
Assist with light admin tasks like logging visitors
Take messages and write notes from guest interactions to help staff follow up efficiently
Training and Preparation:
Shadowing session required before your first solo shift to orient you to procedures, messaging expectations, and how to leave clear, helpful notes
This Role Is Ideal for Volunteers Who:
Prefer seated and light duties, no heavy lifting
Want to make a meaningful impact in short time windows
Enjoy helping maintain smooth operations while staff focuses on moving

Complete the Volunteer Interest Form if you have never volunteered with OSH before. Then view the shift that fits your schedule on our signup genius webpage. Once selected, Wateen (Volunteer Coordinator) or Robin (Development and Communications Manager) will reach out and schedule your shadowing session before your first shift.
