General Description

Civil War Weekend at the LeDuc Historic Estate is an exciting opportunity to support an educational event to the public, celebrating the contributions of Minnesota to the war effort and to learn more about William LeDuc’s role in the Union Army during the Civil War. This year’s theme is “Agriculture".

Date/Time

Sep. 8th & 9th

Two shifts are available each day. Volunteers for the morning should plan to arrive by 9:15 am and work through 1:30 pm on Sat. or Sun. (or both); the afternoon shift is 1:00 to 5 p.m.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties will be assigned in advance of the event on Sept. 9th. Duties could include:

  • Exhibits (such as a vintage “general store” and apple peeling contest)
  • Ensuring Civil War reenactors get refreshments.
  • On Sunday, assisting with breaking down the Civil War encampment and clearing the grounds.
  • Volunteers also are asked to bring potluck food items for a Sat. evening meal for the Civil War reenactors and volunteers, and a Sunday lunch.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Volunteers should be 16 years of age or older.
  • Dress in Victorian era costume encouraged. If you do not have access to period clothing, please get in touch with us and we can accommodate. Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to get dressed.
  • While knowledge of Civil War era history is a plus, it is not necessary
  • Ability to interact well with the public.

 

Minimum Time Commitment

Three to four hours on Saturday or Sunday

 

Activity Level

Medium - May involve varying amounts of activity (long walks, rough terrain, and moderate physical exertion.  May not be recommended for volunteers with physical limitations. Comfortable, sturdy shoes recommended.

 

Required Training

Please call the LeDuc Estate office in advance. There is not time scheduled for training; however, we prefer to talk with potential volunteers to determine how best to use each individual’s talents.
