Description

This fall, teams of Minnesota kids are preparing to compete in a FIRST Robotics program. We need referees to officiate Robotics competitions in November thru February. Teams of kids build robots to compete in either FIRST LEGO League Challenge or FIRST Tech Challenge. The Robot are built to complete missions related to this year’s Cargo Connect or Freight Frenzy themes. Beginning in November they will compete at a High Tech Kids FIRST LEGO League or a FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Tournament. High Tech Kids needs enthusiastic referees to make these tournaments a success. Come be inspired by teams of students in grades 4 - 12.

Referee training is in October or early November either at our High Tech Kids office or via webinar, (see our website hightechkids.org/volunteer/training/ for more information and additional training dates).
Following this referee training, spend a Saturday or Sunday in November through February helping to officiate a FIRST LEGO League Challenge or a FIRST Tech Challenge Tournament.

Referees officiate robot performance matches, tabulate scores, and encourage teams in a fun, energy charged environment. New referees will be paired with an experienced volunteer at their first event.

For the 2021 - 2022 season our events will be in person. We are requiring that all volunteers and participants wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.

Youth volunteers with experience in the FIRST programs are considered on a case by case basis.

Please see our website to learn more about these exciting programs and the referee volunteer role, then sign up via our Volunteer Sign up page. Contact Barb at barb@hightechkids.org or visit http://hightechkids.org/volunteer for more information.
