Who We Are

Homelessness isn’t a choice.

The person sleeping in a tent or standing at the intersection is someone’s daughter, someone’s father, someone’s friend.

Each path to homelessness is unique. For some, it strikes suddenly — a tragic accident, a health crisis, a sudden job loss. For others, it’s the painful outcome of years of trauma and systemic injustice.

At Agate, we know that the path to homelessness is not a choice –  it’s a challenge. When someone asks for help, they’re not just receiving shelter or housing. They’re entering a safe and supportive community where we work side-by-side for the change they need to stabilize their lives and rediscover their strength. Here, they don’t just survive; they rebuild.

But we can’t do it alone. They need you — your support, your voice, your commitment.

Join us. Stand with us and volunteer as part of the fight to end homelessness. Together, we can create a world where everyone has a safe place to call home.

ABOUT US: Agate is a nonprofit committed to ending homelessness, making sure every person and family has a stable place to live, with their basic human needs met and a hopeful path ahead. Agate was formed in 2021 through the merger of House of Charity and St. Stephen's Human Services. We serve almost 6,000 people facing homelessness each year.
