Who We Are
My Very Own Bed provides new beds and linens to children ages 2-17 in families who have recently moved into stable housing in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
Providing furniture to families helps improve their stability by reducing some of their financial stress and helping turn their house into a home.
What We Do
My Very Own Bed focuses on beds for kids because we believe that all children deserve a safe, comfortable place to call their own, on which to read, to dream, and, most importantly, to get a healthy night’s sleep. Adequate sleep helps children fight off illness, enhances their growth, improves self-regulation and stress control, and aids their learning. Without the bed that we provide, many children sleep on the floor or share a bed or a couch with a sibling or a parent.
To connect with families in newly stable housing and in need of beds, we work with partners throughout the Twin Cities who provide homes and resources for families: Wilder Foundation, YouthLink, the St. Paul School District’s Project REACH, Washburn Center for Children, Interfaith Outreach, Simpson Housing Services, and more. As soon as we hear about a child who needs a bed, we are committed to getting them what they need as soon as possible.
