Who We Are

Led by Music Director Thomas Søndergård, the Minnesota Orchestra is a Grammy Award-winning orchestra known for acclaimed performances in our home state and around the world, a storied history of recordings and radio broadcasts, innovative educational engagement programs and a commitment to new orchestral music. We perform a wide variety of music including nearly 175 concerts in a typical year, primarily at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis, our home since 1974. We also tour regularly throughout Minnesota, nationally and abroad.

The Minnesota Orchestra’s mission is to enrich, inspire and serve our community as an enduring symphony orchestra internationally recognized for its artistic excellence.

The Orchestra is committed to using music to communicate and bridge cultures. We seek to create, develop and nurture connections that allow us to authentically contribute to making the Twin Cities a more equitable community, and we are currently focused with great priority on working to disrupt our own role in systemic racism. Our current work includes a programming focus, a fellowship program, and a series of Anti-Racist Learning Projects. We are committed to recognizing inequities in our organization, industry and community, and to advancing the change that must happen.

What We Do

The Minnesota Orchestra is honored to have more than 500 volunteers who contribute to the overall program significantly. Minnesota Orchestra volunteers support the Minnesota Orchestra in many ways throughout the year. Volunteers can serve as Concert Ushers, Young People's Concert Ushers, Community and Special Event Volunteers, Pre-Concert Activity Volunteers as well as Coffee Concert Hosts.
