Who We Are
Since 1969, Joyce Uptown has been a low-barrier, people-centered food shelf in uptown. We serve mostly residents of South Minneapolis, but have no geographic restriction on how we serve. Our foodshelf is based on the client choice shopping model, where we function much like a grocery store, with each shopper making an appointment and hopping in our foodshelf for items they choose.
What We Do
We are a small foodshelf in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis. On average we serve 450 household with 35,000 pounds of food going out our door a month. Volunteers are at the core of our work, with volunteers staffing both our front desk and shopping area at all time we have shopping available. Spanish speaking volunteers are especially valuable, as about 40% of our guests speak Spanish as their primary language.
