Volunteer: Bilingual Wish Granter

Wish granters are essential to fulfilling each child’s wish. They work in teams of two or three and help the wish child determine their heartfelt wish. Wish granters create an exceptional wish experience through building a relationship with the child and their family. Wish children come from all different backgrounds and cultures, so with the help of bilingual wish granters, a wish child can communicate in a language that they are most comfortable with during the wish process! It also greatly reduces the stress for other family members. We welcome all applicants, but have a particular need for volunteers who can speak Spanish, Hmong, Somali, Oromo, and Arabic at any level of proficiency. ASL is also in demand. Training is provided and is flexible with your schedule!

Thank you for your interest in helping kids with critical illnesses and their families.

Volunteer: Host a Hygiene Drive

We invite you to host a Hygiene Drive to collect personal care products and help ensure everyone in our community has access to daily essentials for a healthy life.

All products can be dropped off at our warehouse or picked up by a Bridge to Basics' volunteer. These items are then added to the hygiene bank inventory and donated to local nonprofits serving hygiene insecure neighbors.

Contact hello@bridgetobasics.org to request your toolkit.

Volunteer: Essentials Drive for Bridging (Roseville)

NOW more than ever, we need your help to serve the mission as we empower people to THRIVE in their homes.

OFFSITE OPPORTUNITY!!! Help Bridging Stock the Shelves! Imagine how you could cook a meal without basic kitchen utensils or sleep without a pillow or blanket?

Thousands of local families and individuals face this situation every day.

By hosting an Essentials Drive at your workplace, faith-based organization, or in your community, you can help provide essential items to households in need while raising awareness. Bridging serves an average of 120 households each week.

Location: Off-site at your work, school, faith-based organization, and in your community.

Organize a drive today! Help us stock the shelves so we can serve over 300 people (120 households) every week. Essential Drives allow us to fill the gaps in donations and make sure families have what they need to fully function in their new home.

Coordinator’s Guide is available with full details to get started. New or gently-used items accepted. Promotional support and templates are available for each type of project.

Types of Essentials Drives:

Blankets: All sizes (twin, full, queen, and king) wanted. We need blankets for over 300 people each week!

Towels: All sizes and types wanted. Our goal is to provide one bath towel per person. That's over 13,000 towels each year!

Kitchen Packs: Include a can opener, mixing spoon, spatula, utility scissors, pizza cutter, and a container to hold items. We need over 120 packs per week to give each home a pack.

Cleaning Kits: Include dish scrubber, rubber gloves, sponges, hard surface scrub brush, dust cloths, and a container to hold items (bucket or shoebox size bin). (No cleansers/chemicals please). We need over 120 packs per week to give each home a kit.

Volunteer: Technology for Seniors - Donate tablets for isolated older adults.

Gifts for Seniors and Tech for Seniors accept in-kind donations by appointment or via mail only (no unscheduled drop-ins). Schedule your appointment today by emailing info@giftsforseniors.org!

The Tech for Seniors initiative is dedicated to getting tablets into the hands of isolated older adults who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford one themselves. During the pandemic older adults who were already experiencing isolation suddenly became further challenged to remain connected when they were cut off from the outside world. In best efforts to alleviate the devastating loneliness, Tech for Seniors was launched. Volunteers pre-load donated tablets with video conferencing software, networking opportunities, several mind-occupying apps, and other entertainment options. The in-store purchasing function may also be disabled so less tech savvy seniors are not exploited by scammers.

Tech for Seniors, a program of Gifts for Seniors, offers two programs in pursuit of our mission to alleviate social isolation and loneliness.

Our Partner Tablet Program provides shareable tablets and support programs to aging service providers. The Senior Tablet program provides a tablet and services for older adults who live independently.

This opportunity is available throughout the year! Thank you!!!

Volunteer: Calling All Card Makers - Make cards for isolated older adults!

We accept in-kind donations by appointment or via mail only (no unscheduled drop-ins). Schedule your appointment today by emailing info@giftsforseniors.org!

Learn more about Cards for Seniors.

We need your help to provide handmade or handwritten well wishes on greeting cards for isolated older adults. Please sort by season/holiday when shipping.   Project suggestions: Write in large block print letters using lots of color. Inside the card: Share some simple information about themselves (e.g., their favorite hobbies, pets, school, etc.). You can also write a simple poem and greeting inside the card. This makes the handmade card a very personal and thoughtful gift for the older person to receive. “Sign” the back of the card with your first name AND the name of the group, as well as the age of the child or children if applicable. Materials you might use include stickers, watercolors, puff paint, foam craft, feathers, ribbons, colored tissue paper, buttons, and of course, colored markers. DO NOT use glitter or sequins; they fall off. Helpful Hint: focus on joy!

This opportunity is available throughout the year! Thank you!

Volunteer: NE Day Spot Friend: Dementia-Friendly Respite Volunteer

Are you looking for the right place to share your time, talents, and stories with your neighborhood? Are you looking for a meaningful place to contribute your time? Can you volunteer at least once a month?

At Vital Living we are on a mission to support older adults and caregivers in our community by providing quality resources and programming. We are seeking NE Day Spot Friends to join our volunteer team.

NE Day Spot Friends play an important role during our dementia-friendly NE Day Spot Respite Program. On Fridays or Saturdays from 9:30am-1:30pm, you will socialize with participants, provide support during activities, and help with set up and clean up. Join us and make a difference in the lives of local adults and caregivers-and have fun doing it! No hands-on care required. No experience necessary, we will teach you how to support older adults with dementia.

Some of the perks of being a NE Day Spot Friend are:

Laughing and smiling until your cheeks hurt while swapping jokes and stories in our coffee hour. Getting your body moving and grooving for the day with some group stretches. Enjoying and participating in musical activities led by talented musicians.

Help give individuals facing dementia a welcoming space they associate with friends and fun while you allow caregivers the priceless gift of time—moments to themselves in order to recharge, relax, or accomplish a task. A small window in their week where they can breathe and take a moment for themselves with the reassurance that the person they care for is safely enjoying themselves too.

Your contribution matters! Volunteers 65+ are especially welcome to share their experience and interests.

Volunteer: Clothing Donations for Individuals in Need

One of our key initiatives is collecting clothing donations to distribute to local shelters and individuals in need. Here’s how you can get involved:

1. Helping with Clothing Drives- Volunteers can assist in organizing and promoting clothing donation events in the community. This includes setting up drop-off locations and encouraging others to donate gently used clothing.

2. Sorting and Distributing Clothes- Once donations come in, we need help sorting them by type (e.g., winter coats, children’s clothing) and ensuring they’re ready for distribution to shelters or individuals in need.

3. Spreading the Word- You can help raise awareness about the clothing drive by sharing our posts on social media, putting up flyers, or even reaching out to local businesses that might host donation boxes.

4. Direct Outreach- For those who are comfortable, we also need volunteers to help deliver clothing to shelters or work directly with individuals in need.

We truly value any time and effort volunteers can offer, and we’d love to have you as part of our mission. Please contact Aiyana at (763) 203-3351.

Volunteer: Help Us Nourish Our Community During Tough Times

Who We Are
Clare Housing is a Minneapolis-based non-profit agency that provides affordable housing with services to 300 neighbors living with HIV/ AIDS. Those who live with us have often experienced systemic and individual harm and discrimination, so we commit to ensuring that living at Clare Housing feels healing, empowering, dignifying, and connective. This goal is not achievable without the partnership of neighbors and friends from the broader community (such as you!).

The Opportunity
Life happens; we all know this. Sometimes daily necessities, such as personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and food are hard to come by; that’s why we like to keep some basic items on-hand for days and moments when our community needs a little boost.

We like to stock nutritious, satisfying, and non-perishable food and household items on an ongoing basis. Some examples include:

Peanut butter Canned soups and stews (chili, hearty soups, etc.) Laundry detergent Kitchen and bathroom cleaners Rice Microwaveable instant oatmeal Pancake mix Special diet foods - gluten-free, low-sugar, low-sodium Vinegar and baking soda Sponges

For a current list of basic needs supplies, please check out our registry with Target, which you can shop from directly! The link is https://www.target.com/gift-registry/gift/clare-basic-needs

Volunteer: Welcome Folks Home with Move-in Baskets!

Who We Are
Clare Housing is a Minneapolis-based non-profit agency that provides affordable housing with services to 300 neighbors living with HIV/ AIDS.

It’s sometimes the little things that help you feel at home after a move: eating from a favorite bowl, sipping a warm cup of coffee in the morning, or dancing in a freshly-cleaned living space.

Folks often move in to Clare Housing with some personal items, but not all they need to set up their new homes. While we can connect them to furniture, we invite our community to welcome new residents by providing some other household essentials.

The total cost of putting together a welcome basket of new items is about $500, with each one including:

Small Appliances (coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, etc.) Utensils Dishes Pots & Pans Sheets & Towels Cleaning Supplies Paper Products Large, lidded, plastic storage containers

Please reach out if you and/or your organization would like to put some baskets together (this is a great opportunity for groups!); we would be so glad to have your support in welcoming our new neighbors home!

For a complete list of items, check out our Target Registry at https://www.target.com/gift-registry/gift/clare-welcome-baskets. Items purchased do not need to be the exact ones in the registry, but each type of item must be included in the basket (e.g. - towels do not need to be Room Essentials brand, but towels must be included).

Volunteer: Morning Rush Coffee Drive

We serve 66 homeless adults in our shelter every night and about 95 cups of coffee. You can help by organizing a coffee drive!

If you're a coffee drinker, I know you appreciate how a hot cup can make you feel ready for your day. Shelter guests get up as early as 3 am to take several buses to get to work and coffee helps them out the door. Many of our guests drink a cup of decaf in the evening, hungry and waiting for dinner.

For non-coffee drinkers, we also can use tea bags and hot cocoa packets!

Although we purchase our coffee from a warehouse store, it still is a large expense. We brew both caffeinated and decaf and we would welcome any brand or size (must be ground).

Please schedule an appointment to drop off your donation at our 160 Glenwood Office
https://calendly.com/d/dtj-ych-5hn/160-glenwood-donation-delivery-appointment?month=2022-06

Volunteer: Searching for Basketball Hoops!

Project for Pride in Living works with  a number of young children, many of who love playing basketball outside our residence buildings. In full transparency, since there is no hoop, they get creative and use a bucket as a hoop. :)

We would love it if our community could come together to install a basketball hoop(s) to support their passion and love for sports and exercise.

If you are interested in donating please reach out to Zarah Augustine, the Director of Volunteer Program at PPL: zarah.augustine@ppl-inc.org

Volunteer: Face Masks Needed for At-Risk Population

Emma Norton provides housing and supportive services to more than 300 individuals and families who have experienced homelessness with the additional challenge of mental illness, chemical dependency, or physical disability. We operate 2 site-based facilities in Saint Paul (dorm-style housing for 50 women and individuals) and Maplewood (13 townhomes for single-parent families with 3 or more children). Emma Norton also partners with small landlords throughout Ramsey County to provide low-barrier, affordable housing throughout the community.

There is growing evidence that wearing masks, even homemade cloth masks, can seriously reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection. In light of the shortage of medical masks, we are asking for volunteers to help by making DIY cloth masks for all of our staff and residents.

The Minnesota Department of Health provided this pattern for DIY masks: https://www.mdh.org/sites/www/Uploads/files/Downloads/ClothMaskPattern1.pdf

For more information on alternative masks, you can read the following release from the MDH: https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/hcp/masksalt.pdf

Please coordinate all donations with Victoria at vvirasy@emmanorton.org. Per MDH guidelines only essential personnel may enter Emma Norton facilities at this time.

You can help by assembling and donating the following kits only listed below. Details for the kits can be found on our website - https://oscs-mn.org/osh-volunteer-opportunities/.

The list includes a:

Undergarment Essentials kit Flu Free Kit Laundry Kit Home Care Kit

This is a great project for both youth and adults. You can assemble the kits at your home, office, school, or place of worship and then deliver them to our shelter Monday or Wednesday between 10:00am-2:00pm.

We welcome donations of any quantity. For questions please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@oshousing.org or 612-872-4193 x0.

Volunteer: Self-Care Kits for Survivors (Age 18 +)

Due to the high levels of stress and trauma that many survivors of domestic violence face, our
advocates support and encourage participants to incorporate self-care techniques into their daily
lives. Survivors of abuse are often told they are undeserving and have had very few opportunities to
take care of themselves and their children in ways they deserve. There are many useful materials
that support survivors to practice self-care. Here is a list of supplies that can be collected and
assembled into self-care kits for our advocates to give to participants:
 Essential oils for aromatherapy
 Scented candles or incense
 Yoga mats
 Yoga, zumba, or dance passes or DVDs
 Stress balls
 Fidget rings or tactile jewelry
 Coloring books and supplies
 Painting canvas and paints
 Journals
 Crochet hooks/Knitting needles and yarn
 Other craft supplies
 Shopping giftcards
 Perfume
 Make-up
 Nail polish
 Spa giftcards or kits
For inquiries or questions please contact Sarahi Mateo at 651-772-1723 or smateo@casadeesperanza.org.

Volunteer: Move-In Kits for Survivors (Age 18 +)

Women and children experiencing domestic violence often come to the Refugio (shelter) with very
few of their possessions. Additionally, many of the survivors we work with do not have access to
their family finances and may depend on their partners for financial support. Some may not be able
to return to their previous homes so we do assist them in finding safe housing. When residents leave
the Refugio and move into a new home, they are often starting from scratch. We attempt to provide
a Move-In Kit for every resident that leaves so they have a smoother start in creating their new
home.

Here is a list of supplies that can be collected and assembled into Move-In Kits for survivors
and their children leaving the Refugio:
 Laundry baskets
 Laundry detergent
 Clothes hangers (no wire please)*
 Dish soap and sponges
 Bathroom and kitchen cleaning supplies
 Paper towels
 Toilet paper and facial tissues
 Large pots and pans*
 Cooking utensils*
 Silverware*
 Dishes and glassware*
 Coffee mugs*
 Large storage containers with locking
lids (for moving and storage)*
 Bed linens, blankets, and comforters*
 Grocery, Gas, and shopping gift cards
*indicates that gently used items are accepted.
For inquiries or questions please contact Beth Baynes at 651-772-1723 or bcheeley@casadeesperanza.org.
