Volunteer: Program Intern Wanted

For InnerCity Tennis (ICT) Board, staff and volunteers, it is all about the children. The center of our universe is creating the opportunity for children and youth to manifest their greatest potential - on and off court. With staff, teaching professionals and dozens of invaluable volunteers, we collaborate to give each child a pathway toward accomplishment, whether that be with a tennis stroke, learning geometry via the court, developing a unique literary voice through the annual Arthur Ashe Essay Contest or finding fulfilment through service learning with younger children at our Super Saturday program.

Job Title: ICT Program Intern

Job Objective: The ICT Program Intern reports to the Program Director and/or Volunteer Coordinator. They are primarily responsible for delivering excellence in youth developmental programs.

Job Description: The ICT Program Intern is responsible for the following:

Support with the delivery of Super Saturday program Engage youth participants and volunteers Assist with program evaluation Assist with equipment setup/take down Assist with registration

 

Work Schedule:

Saturdays from 1 pm to 5 pm January to April 

Skills and Characteristics:

Working toward a degree in Child development, Kinesiology and/or Program Management Upbeat attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt Excellent communication skills with ability to multi-task Must enjoy working with kids

The position of ICT Program Intern is an unpaid position and ICT will seek to provide individuals with the best hands-on learning opportunity. This position will be evaluated corresponding to their class/institutional standard, alongside Program Directors weekly check-in.

No Tennis Experience Necessary!

 

For 24 Saturdays from September - April, we open up our Reed Sweatt Family Tennis Center, located at the intersection of 40th St & Nicollet Avenue in South Minneapolis, to deliver programming free of charge to our communities youth.

On average 300 kids ages 3-18 fill the tennis center each Saturday, learning tennis fundamentals and life skills. Nearly 100 volunteers, of all ages and abilities, conduct the program alongside the ICT professional staff.

Volunteering Options
Little Stars (Level 1) 2:30:00-4:30pm Kids ages 3-6 - No tennis experience needed.

Rising Stars (Level 2) 2:30-4:30pm Kids ages 7-10 - Volunteers need to know basic tennis fundamentals.

Pre-Varisty (Level 3) 4:30-6:00pm Ages 11-13 - Volunteers must be able to feed balls with a racquet.

Varsity (Level 4) 4:30-6:00pm Ages 14-18 - Volunteers must be a 3.5 rated player & be able to feed & rally.

Three hundred children ages 3-17 fill our tennis center each Saturday, taking part in FREE PROGRAMMING. 100 volunteers ages 12 to 95 of all abilities, conduct the program alongside the ICT professional staff. This is the best inter-generational experience in town!
