Volunteer: Volunteer Literacy Tutor

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Become a Literacy Tutor! Tutor Kindergarten through 3rd grade students to help them achieve literacy success.

Be a caring, invested adult tutor who helps children learn literacy skills while also growing their relationship and communication skills. Virtual and in-person tutoring opportunities are available. Volunteers will be provided with everything they need to tutor and build trusting relationships: training, technology, materials, staff support, and a network of committed volunteers. Literacy Tutors are provided with the session structure, literacy tutoring materials and books. East Side Learning Center is the proud Twin Cities program partner of AARP Foundation Experience Corps. Volunteers ages 50+ are invited to participate as Experience Corps tutors.

WHERE CAN I VOLUNTEER?

St. Paul Music Academy (27 Geranium Ave E, St Paul, MN 55117) East African Elementary Magnet School (437 Edmund Ave,  St. Paul, MN) Frost Lake Elementary School (1505 E Hoyt Ave, St. Paul, MN 55106) Virtually - tutor virtually from regional hubs.

TRAINING 

ESLC provides an orientation and pre-service training on the session structure, literacy activities and tuttoring strategies prior to Literacy Mentors beginning work with their students. Supplemental training is provided throughout the year for a total of 20-25 hours of training.
