Opportunities From: HandsOn Twin Cities

If you have a Level 2 or higher training in providing the Healing Touch Program or Healing Beyond Boarders, we would love to have your skills in serving our Episcopal Homes residents. You will be joining a great group of volunteers with the support of one of our chaplains. They meet once a month (the second Wednesday 1-3pm) and provide healing touch services to residents on a weekly basis. You can volunteer once a week, every other week, or once a month.

If paper mache, drawing, coloring, painting and art making is your passion, we have a great opportunity for you! You don't need to have ideas, we have a great online library of creative and easy projects, and our Life Enrichment team at Episcopal Church Home will provide all the supplies! You will lead our residents in a craft hour. You can volunteer once a week, every other week or once a month!

Do you love getting your hands in the dirt and planting flowers, herbs, and vegetables? Our Episcopal Homes residents are looking for strong volunteers to help with the digging, kneeling and lifting to get their garden plots in ship shape for the growing season mid-May to mid-October. We are also looking for a volunteer to help with watering the pretty flowers at our courtyard and patio gardens with long-term care residents during the summer months.

If you prefer an indoor option, we would love a couple of volunteers to help with Friday afternoon preparation 3-5pm filling the vases with water and food. On Saturdays we are looking for a couple more substitute drivers to pick up Trader Joe's flower donation and deliver it to Episcopal Homes from 9-10:30am. Also on Saturdays, we need a few more co-leaders to help with the flower arranging and leading the other volunteers 9:30-11:30am. These lovely bouquets are then shared across the campus in our public spaces for all to enjoy!

Our residents love a ride on our bicycle made for 3 passengers and 1 driver. Volunteer escorts are needed to help residents get from their rooms and apartments to the front entrance of their buildings. This is mostly pushing people in wheelchairs or walking with them to their destinations and bringing them back again. Drivers will be pedaling riders around the campus to enjoy the beautiful gardens, park, and Minnesota summer weather.

You can volunteer as an Escort indoors or a Trishaw driver outdoors!

Do you enjoy spending time with older adults? Episcopal Homes is seeking compassionate volunteers to serve as one-to-one companions or group activity leaders for our residents. As a volunteer, you can read aloud, write letters, play games, share stories, and build meaningful connections through conversation and shared experiences. Reminisce about your lives, families, careers, travels and hobbies and come make a difference in someone's day. You can visit once a week or twice a month on a schedule that works best for you.

Here are some regularly scheduled activities you can consider or promote to your friends and family. Do you know a student who needs volunteer time for school credit? These are some fun ways to provide some community service:

o Pretty Nail Manicures at The Gardens or ECH: You can choose the time for 1-2 hours a week to bring some special one-to-one time to residents who like a new nail color or some light nail filing.

o   Exercise Escort: Mondays through Saturday 9:30am-11:30am, you can pick which day of the week works best for you

o   Escort a Gardens resident to Terrace Grille every other Thursday 4:30-5pm

o   Escort a Gardens resident to IPC activities Mondays 10:30am Crossword Puzzles, Mondays 3pm Jeopardy, Tuesdays 10am Coffee with Chaplain, Fridays 2pm Bingo

o   Reading the Newspaper aloud to residents: mornings between 9-11am (you can pick the day of the week and one hour time frame)

o   Reading the Newspaper aloud to residents at Iris Park Commons on Tuesdays 3:30-4:15pm

o   Dominos partner once a week in the afternoon

o   Skip Bo card game co-leader: Wednesdays 2-4pm or Saturday afternoons and you can pick the time

o   Phase 10 card game leader: you can pick the day of the week and two-hour time frame that works best for you

o   Book Club co-leader: Wednesdays 3-5pm

o   Monthly Birthday party on Fridays 12:30-3pm, decorating, gathering residents, serving case and ice cream, music entertainment included

o   One-to-one visits with male residents, you can choose the weekly or bi-monthly days and times

o   One-to-one visits with residents who need help with range of motion stretches in the mornings 10:30-11:30am

o   Pet Visitors: Do you have a sweet dog, cat, or rabbit that doesn't mind the ride or lots of petting? If they are current with their rabies vaccine, we would love a visit with residents once a week or once a month or something in between

o   Shopping assistant as needed: meet resident at the bank, cell phone store and help them with their shopping or customer service errand

o   Low-vision residents group meeting escort: 1st Monday of the month 2:30-4:30pm

o   Resident Directory Creator/Editor: interview residents at our independent living buildings, write their bio, take their photos and create/update the directories

o   Financial Health Presenter: Create a presentation about budgeting, stretching your dollars and present it to our independent living residents

o   Water indoor plants and help with accessible gardening projects

o   Bi or Multi-lingual volunteer to connect with residents with cultural backgrounds from Cambodia, Vietnam, China; lead activities or do one-to-one visits or reminiscing projects

Are you fluent in Cambodian Khmer and enjoy spending time with older adults? Do you have a friendly dog, cat, guinea pig, or rabbit that likes strangers and lots of petting?  Are you interested in sharing your special family member with elders 65+?  We would love to have you visit our Episcopal Homes residents in assisted living, memory care and long-term care (nursing homes).  

You can commit to a weekly or month visit or one-time event.  The best time frame for visits is between 9:30-11:30am or 1-4pm; we suggest for a two-hour visit.

If you are coming to volunteer more than once, we request that you complete a Minnesota Department of Human Services background check and fingerprinting.  This allows you to volunteer independently, visiting residents in their apartments and rooms.

If you prefer a one-time visit, we will schedule a time when our staff member can be present with you and your pet in one of our community rooms.

Are you looking for an easy way to donate your time to elders and help them with food stability? We have a great opportunity for you! Our Episcopal Homes residents at one of our independent living apartment buildings (for seniors 65+) have a free Food Mobile delivery the 3rd Tuesday of the month. We need a volunteer to help the staff set up tables and move 5–10-pound boxes. The truck has a few steps in and out of the trailer. The volunteer time is 1:30-4pm.

Do you speak Mandarin Chinese and enjoy spending time with older adults?
