The MIND Volunteer Program is designed to proactively address common symptoms and concerns that complicate care and discharge planning for our hospitalized patients. The goal is to prevent patients from experiencing a decline in both their physical and mental health during their hospital stay.

Volunteers are an important part of the care team - making visits to patients, providing companionship, assisting with meals, playing games, engaging in a variety of social activities as well as simple conversation, all of which can stimulate the mind and reduce delirium.

Is this role a fit for you?

Volunteers must enjoy working with elderly people Able to commit to at least 3 shifts/month for 6 months Shift times can be flexible; generally 3 hour shifts afternoons or evenings Terrific opportunity for someone wanting a meaningful volunteer experience or someone working toward a medical career hoping to gain one-to-one patient interaction

New Volunteers will receive training from unit staff about delirium and activities to engage with patients

Note: Delirium is the sudden onset of severe confusion and is a preventable condition in many instances. It can have serious complications and may result in a loss of ability for self-care and independence.

Do you enjoy engaging people in a small group setting? Do you enjoy sharing information and have a passion for parents and families?

Join us as a Tour Ambassador with The Mother Baby Center on the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Campus.
You will create a warm, welcoming environment to small groups of up to 12 people and conduct tours of The Mother Baby Center for prospective or current families using a standardized script. Volunteers must be able to walk/stand for 1 hour and must be dependable. Shifts and tours based on volunteer availability.

You don’t need any specific experience or knowledge for this role as training will be provided, however, you will enjoy this role if:

Wayfinder volunteers at Abbott Northwestern tell us time and time again they LOVE the exercise of walking 2 - 3 miles a day while escorting our patients and visitors to their destinations. Our beautiful hospital is a great place to get in your steps while helping others in a very meaningful way. Volunteering as part of a positive and respectful team at a Top 100 hospital you will brighten peoples' days, assist those in need, and make a difference in big and little ways.
