Volunteer: Project Home Day Center Weekend Meal Teams

Every Saturday and Sunday, teams of volunteers prepare and serve lunch and dinner for the families at the Project Home Day Center. Each team creates a menu, provides the food, prepares the meal, dines with the families, and cleans up afterwards. Meals are served buffet-style with team members joining families and staff at the tables after the families are served. A team’s time commitment is approximately two-three hours, which includes meal preparation in our licensed kitchen, dining with families, and cleanup. Teams are composed of about 4-8 adults; supervised older children are welcome. Lunch is served at noon, and dinner is served at 4:30pm. Come as early as you need to prepare.

At any given time, we have about 40 individuals, parents/grandparents with children, staying in our shelters. On the weekends, we allow weekend passes, so not all families stay at the day center during the weekend and they are able to connect with local friends and family. For weekend meals, we usually average around 10-12 people on Saturdays and 15-20 on Sundays. You are always welcome to call the day center's office at 651-225-9354 the morning of your shift to get an accurate head count.

If you would like more information about meal teams and duties, please contact the coordinator, Wade Piper, at wpiper@interfaithaction.org.

Volunteer: Project Home SPIN Cycle

SPIN Cycle relies on the power of volunteers to offer our families a reliable way to ensure that they won’t have to go to school or work in dirty clothes. SPIN Cycle volunteers will sign up to pick up a load of laundry from the Day Center, bring it to their home or a laundromat, wash it, and return it by the same time the next day. For so many of us washing a load of laundry is a simple household chore, but for our families this service will help them feel that they are approaching every new day refreshed and ready for whatever their day may hold. We are actively looking for volunteers who are looking to get involved in a relatively low-commitment, high-impact volunteer opportunity. Please sign up below if you would like to be a part of SPIN Cycle!

To ensure that we have time to prepare a basket for pickup, please sign up at least 24 hours in advance.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Wade Piper at any time at wpiper@interfaithaction.org or (218)639-2624
