We invite you to join Park Nicollet as a Patient Discharge Escort - offering a warm welcome to everyone and assisting patients and visitors in navigating the Methodist Hospital campus by escorting them to their appointments, visits with friends and loved ones, and their waiting transportation when they are discharged from a hospital stay. As one volunteer recently said, "you just never know how much a simple conversation or a little help can change someone’s day!"

This position requires applicants who prefer physical activity over sitting at a desk, enjoy engaging people in conversation, and want to go above and beyond to create a great experience for Park Nicollet patients and guests. We are seeking Patient Discharge Escorts to join our team who can commit to a weekly shift. Several shift times are available for each day of the week between 8am to 7pm, and 9am to 7pm on weekends.

Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital is looking for new people to join the team of HELP volunteers!

The Hospital Life Elder Program (HELP) is designed to reduce delirium in elderly patients admitted to the hospital. Volunteers are an important part of the care team - making visits to patients, communicating with medical staff, and documenting important information about patient health.

Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, enjoy working with elderly people, and able to commit to a weekly 4-hour shift for 6 months of service. It is a terrific opportunity for someone wanting a meaningful volunteer experience or someone working toward a medical career hoping to gain one-to-one patient interaction.

In 2018, HELP volunteers at Methodist Hospital made 3, 349 visits to patients up to 3 times a day to have conversations and facilitate brief interactions designed to prevent delirium. Delirium is the sudden onset of severe confusion, and is a preventable condition in many instances. It can have serious complications and may result in a loss of ability for self-care and independence. Of the patients visited, 98 percent maintained their cognitive status.

Position Summary:

The volunteer Aide primarily serves patients and/or staff providing direct patient care.

As a volunteer Occupational Therapy Aide, you will be serving patients and/or staff providing direct patient care. Your tasks will include visiting with patients, assisting with patient care under the direction of a therapist, transporting patients, stocking supplies, cleaning surfaces, and assisting with light clerical tasks.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in deepening their knowledge and experience in Occupational Therapy. Preference given to those who are currently students in OT, or looking to apply to an OT program. You will help with the daily flow of this busy hospital, working closely with staff. No experience necessary.

This role will be 4 hours once per week.
