Join Free Bikes 4 Kidz MN for a unique opportunity to refurbish gently used bikes and distribute them to communities who need them. Every year we collect thousands of bikes that we dust off, clean up and fix. Because of the work of our amazing volunteers, we expect to give away almost 15,000 bikes this year all while adhering to Covid protocols.

Volunteer shifts are a minimum of 3 hours and run Tuesday through Saturday this year.

Date: October into December 2024:

Hours: 9-12p, 12-3p, 3-6p, 6-9p. Jobs vary depending on the day and shift. See our calendar for details.

This is a great opportunity for individuals or groups. And with chaperones, it is an excellent volunteer opportunity for youth over the age of 12.

Warehouse Job Descriptions: 

Cleaner: Clean, shine, and scrub bikes. No bike maintenance skills necessary.

Prepper: Must have experience changing tires and tubes, replace seats, pedals and grips. 

Mechanic: Must have experience adjusting bottom brackets and derailleurs, truing wheels, fixing brakes etc.

Mover: Must be able to walk for extended periods of time and lift bikes of all sizes (15-50 pounds). No bike maintenance skills necessary. 

She Climbs Mountains is looking for passionate professionals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and interests to join our various committees (fundraising, marketing, events, finance). This is an amazing opportunity to learn more about how a non-profit operates and help shape the future of the organization. There are also opportunities throughout the year to volunteer for specific events.

The amazing work that She Climbs Mountains + Girls Rise Up does and the incredible impact it has had on the lives of hundreds of grieving women and girls is largely due to the amazing volunteers who have contributed their time and talents to our organization.

We’ve set some exciting goals for the organization in the year ahead and would love for YOU to be a part of this next step on our journey.

Mount Olivet Day Services (MODS) is an adult day program offering respite care to seniors where everyone can socialize and enjoy planned activities in a safe group setting. This provides family caregivers a much-needed break, enabling loved ones to be cared for at home for a longer period of time.

Who doesn’t love Bingo?! It is an absolute favorite activity for our clients, and we are always in need of prizes for those who win! We would love if you or your work team is able to gather new socks, t-shirts of different sizes, puzzle books (word searches, crosswords), coloring books and colored pencils, little gadgets, puzzles (100 pieces or less), little games, or “jewelry” for our Bingo winners! This opportunity is completely flexible. If this is a team building activity for your work place, we would be happy to come out to your office and present more about Mount Olivet Day Services and have this be a fun “event” for your team!

Our days are filled with exercise, music, discussions, craft projects, baking activities, entertainment, spiritual services, and pet visits, as well as weekly outings.

Now is the perfect time to get out and help out. Group volunteering is a meaningful break from the work/daily routine to help build camaraderie, collaboration, improve team communications, and to help make lasting change. Moderate to Active - To fully participate may require walking over primarily even surfaces.  There may be a limited number of steps, a minimal number of uneven surfaces, and some standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Activities will occur either in an inside or outdoor setting with a mixture of controlled/uncontrolled elements.

Activity Accommodations – We work with groups to figure out what work best for them. Each request is taken on a case-by-case basis based on the availability and capacity of county event and job calendars.

Are you part of a small group that is looking to help others? How about providing respite to caregivers of older adults, or caregivers to those with disabilities? By doing this you are giving these caregivers, who often put their wellbeing on hold, a break. Your group would be providing companionship to the care receiver by exploring mutual interests whether that’s building puzzles, playing games, watching movies etc. During this time the caregiver can do what they need to do. Volunteers are not expected to, nor should they be asked to help the clients in the bathroom, with medications or other personal tasks. Our current volunteers really like the bond they build with the families and how much of an impact they make on our clients’ lives. Everyone in your small group would go through training and, when a good match is found, meet the family. Then the small group would work together so one or two people would be with the caregiver for at least two hours every week. We have no set time for volunteers and clients to meet so you can volunteer on your schedule. We do ask for a 3-month commitment. 

Who didn’t love going on a field trip in school? Going to different sites, learning something new, and just getting the chance to get out of school. FamilyMeans Community Connection takes the fun of a field trip and applies to adults with early-stage memory loss. During a Community Connection we meet at a set location and each week explore different topics or do different activities. This gets our clients out of the house and participate in activities that are designed specifically for them. You will not be asked to drive clients you just simply have to show up at the proper location.

We need people who are willing to attend these sessions and help provide a fun and safe environment for our clients. This could mean helping to set up and clean up after activities, being a discussion guide, and helping clients participate in activities.  

We ask volunteers stay for an entire session which is 4 hours (1/2 hour before, 3 hours program and ½ hour afterward). Sessions will be weekly for 4 to 6 weeks. It would be great if a volunteer could attend every session but we don’t require it.   

Everyone deserves a night out. Unfortunately, sometimes people are too busy taking care of their spouse, parent or other connection to really do that. FamilyMeans new program will allow caregivers a night out while their care receiver enjoys a fun few hours in a safe environment.

To run this event, we are looking for volunteers ready to have some fun and like to help people. If that’s you please consider joining our Night Out Fun Crew. The Night Out Fun Crew will help care receivers participate in fun activities while providing a safe environment. Night Out will meet once a month on the 4th Tuesday of every month for 2 hours for 5:30 to 7:30. This is a great opportunity for people who work but would still like to give back to their community. Even in just that short amount of time volunteers can make a difference in caregivers’ lives.

CreateMPLS is dedicated to preparing students in underserved communities for rewarding careers, by removing barriers and providing accessible STEM learning programs at no cost to the students or families. We have developed K-12 introductory STEM classes with our host sites. We are also co-teaching tech classes and electives with the host sites as well as creating advanced STEM classes with local tech schools. These programs are designed with the students' experience level in mind to create something that engages and challenges students to learn more. This opportunity is for you if you are interested in supporting our LEGO robotics programming with students of all ages!

Providing foster care for a dog or a cat can be a very rewarding experience, but it has its share of responsibilities and challenges as well. Dogs and Cats come to Pet Haven through our Shelter Partners and from Crisis Owner Surrenders. While we try to gain as much information as we can on the health, behavior, and personality of each animal we bring in, there are often many unknowns. Fosters need to be willing to work within the animal’s timelines and needs, giving the animal the space to adjust to their new home and all the changes they have been through. This requires compassion, kindness, patience, and persistence. Experience with animals is helpful but not a requirement. Fostering can be an excellent way to determine if you are cut out for pet ownership, or if it is feasible to add another pet to your household.

At TreeHouse, our mission is to provide mentoring, support, and connections to teenagers in need. However, we're encountering significant challenges due to outdated infrastructure causing crashes and slowdowns, hindering our ability to connect and plan with our teams effectively.

Currently, we're facing a shortage of functional laptops compatible with Windows 11, specifically seeking up to 5 laptops such as the Elite Pro 860 or comparable models.

These special volunteers bring peace and dignity to patients who are dying alone or when family members request additional support. Vigil volunteers help complete our circle of care to ensure that patients die feeling valued, loved, and wholly supported on their journey.

Volunteers are provided free training and work flexible hours. Background check, fingerprinting, and TB testing required.

Assist Brighton's support team as they provide bereavement services to the families who have lost a loved one in our hospice program.

A bereavement volunteer sends mailings and provides telephone support to caregivers of those who have passed away in our hospice program. Callers will contact people at 1-2 months and 11-13 months following the death to offer a listening ear and to see if further follow-up is needed from our staff.

Training is provided. Calls can be made from the comfort of your own home!

826 MSP youth writing center is looking for volunteers with morning/daytime availability to support our Field Trips program! During a field trip, a class of elementary schoolers visits 826 MSP for an immersive creative writing workshop experience. After the trip, students receive a bound book of their work to keep.

826 MSP offers two kinds of field trips to classes across the Twin Cities-Storytelling & Bookmaking Field Trips for 3rd & 4th grade classes (on Tuesdays), and Poetry Navigators Field Trips for 1st & 2nd grade classes (on Thursdays). Field Trips typically run for 2 or 2.5 hours between 10:30 and 2 p.m. The most common session is 10:30-1:00.

There are several volunteer roles for these field trip experiences, and most are beginner friendly!

Typist: During Storytelling & Bookmaking Field Trips, the Typist transcribes the students' ideas into complete sentences to help them create the beginning of their story. (Students finish the story on their own.) Speedy typers wanted!

Illustrator: Do you like to draw or design? The Illustrator volunteer creates a cover design and one inside illustration for each Storytelling & Bookmaking Field Trip book. Illustrations can be done on paper or digitally.

Captain: The Captain is a creative, imaginative volunteer role. As the Captain, you play the voice of our mysterious leader who calls the students to give them their writing mission. Garber Transportation volunteer drivers get to sign up for rides that work for their schedule and use their own car to pick up clients who need rides to appointments and errands.

program alumni they are loved by Jesus and his people.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Meet with individuals for 6 months before the resident’s graduation
• Provide ‘welcome home baskets’ with initial essentials for the resident’s new
home once they graduate (e.g.: cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, basic kitchen

Our community choir is looking for volunteer singers to join our mission in providing free performances to individuals in senior living facilities, hospices and rehab hospitals.  We sing a wide variety of SATB choral music.  Members include those who have sung in a high school, church choir or community choir.  Singers should be able to read music but need not be an 'expert'.  Our mission is to bring music to those who have limited access and to have fun.  All ages are welcome.  Must be able to provide own transportation to rehearsals and performances.

Do you like driving and going for rides just to check out the view? So do the individuals with developmental disabilities at one of our homes in Plymouth! As a volunteer, you would use our accessible van, (we will train you!) and take the individuals out and about for a "joy ride". 2 hours once or twice a month would be ideal.

The Contracts & Grants Manager is a key member of the Lomepolis Development, working to enhance the organization’s funding models, identifying new sources of funding, and developing competitive grant applications. This position supports the cultivation of charitable support from philanthropic business, corporate, government agencies and foundation donors, writes and submits grant proposals

Refugees and others who have a special status arrive in the United States legally after being forced to flee violence and persecution. Once they arrive in Minnesota, LSS Refugee Services works to secure safe and affordable housing for them, offers employment services and empowers them to achieve self-sufficiency and agency. Mentors act as friends and neighbors to newly arrived refugees and support them as they navigate the challenges of resettlement. 

Goal of Position:

To be a guide and friend for a refugee or refugee couple in their challenging first months in the United States. Each paring will involve setting 2-3 goals/focuses for the mentorship.

Sample Activities:

Please Note:

A Case Worker works with each refugee for at least their first 90 days in the US.  These first needs are called the “core services,” including housing, furniture, basic household items, medical care, social security, employment authorization documentation, school enrollment. Mentors are not responsible for these services.

Time Commitment:

Mentors make a commitment to meet at least once a week for three months. This has the potential for extension, if all parties are interested in continuing.

Scheduling:

At the discretion of the volunteer and availability of the refugee.

Worksite:

Varies, but will most likely be at the refugee’s home and in the community.

Qualifications:

Cross-cultural sensitivity, flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor.  Ability to work with people with basic English proficiency. Interest in helping refugees with resettlement needs.  An application, interview, and background check are required. Training and supervision are provided.

Like to drive and help people? This is the volunteer opportunity for you! Flexibility is key – drivewhenever it works for you. There is no set schedule –decide when and where you want to drive. Drivers use their personal vehicles to transport area residents to their requested destinations. You can view available rides and accept the ones you want using our web-based transportation management program. Drivers can be reimbursed for mileage at the current non-profit rate or take a tax deduction for that amount. We prefer for drivers to live in or near our service areas of:

Assist with transportation needs around the Twin Cities metro. We have situations where a foster is unable to get their foster dog/cat to an appointment and need a team of volunteers willing to transport the foster to/from the appointment. Our goal is to build a list of volunteers willing to help in these situations, we send out the request and drivers available or closest to the foster respond back that they can help. The driver and foster are connected via email/text to work specific details of pick-up/drop-off. Most appointments will be to Vet locations in the Twin Cities metro, Forest Lake, Wyoming or Buffalo.

Time commitment for this role varies depending on the need, but on average each transport could be 2-3 hours.

Flexibility is essential and your own transportation is required. Gas expenses are not covered by the rescue.

The Music For Memories non-profit is looking for piano accompanists/choir leaders to help us expand the number of senior choirs within senior living facilities in the Twin Cities/Western Wisconsin area.  

Use your musical skills to invest in your communities seniors!  Belonging to a choir has proven to be extremely successful in combating isolation and loneliness and fostering a sense purpose and productivity.

We are looking for volunteers to teach a one-hour online class to beginning or intermediate English Learners. The curriculum is provided to you.  The classes are scheduled between 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Monday - Friday evenings.  We also may schedule a weekend class. 

You will work with a teacher to reinforce the curriculum that students are learning in their other classes.  You usually have between 2-8 students attending a Zoom conference. Training in teaching strategies and Zoom presentations are offered if needed.  Volunteers usually commit to one-two hours a week. 

VSS is looking for volunteers who can assist students online or in person with their digital learning skills. Or, we may ask you to teach a module in class (online or in-person).

Our students receive a Chrome Book to complete homework and attend Zoom classes.  We need to train students on using this technology.  Hours are varied and/or you can attend an appointment with a student. 

VSS has Adult Basic Education classes that are in person Monday through Friday.

The schedule is 9:30 a.m. to noon.   12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. 

We need volunteers to serve as teaching assistants in the beginning and intermediate classes.  Teaching assistants will lead break-out groups, check students' work, and work with students who may be struggling in class.   

Volunteers can come for an hour during class, or for the morning or afternoon session. Volunteers work out a schedule with the teacher, so the teachers can prepare work or assignments prior to the class. Volunteers usually commit to 1 to 3 hours per week. 

VSS needs individuals interested in helping our clients with day-to-day activities as clients learn how to navigate government and medical assistance.  

Volunteers can set up appointments with clients to help them fill out paperwork, make medical appointments, apply for drivers' licenses or MN Identification Cards, and apply for jobs. VSS will connect you to a client and provide translation services if necessary.

Ideas include: large-group Bingo, sing-alongs, theme-based social hours(tropical, eras, music genres, etc), or ideas created by your group. Staff, residents and their families always appreciate and enjoy these unique events!

Orientation will be provided, staff will be present during event. This is a great opportunity for corporate or volunteer groups of 5-15 people, depending on the event

Resident social interaction, independence in shopping and increased movement throughout the building are each enhanced by a visit to our on-site Gift Shop. Happy-faced point of sale individuals are needed to serve our residents, their families and our staff in the Mount Olivet Careview Home Gift Shop! The shop offers a wide variety of unique gifts, snacks, books, activities, clothing items and personal essentials and is a favored in-house destination for residents, their families and staff. The shop is 100% volunteer-run, so regular attendants are needed to fulfill the advertised hours. You will help residents choose gifts and facilitate their purchases, engage in conversation and enjoy their company!

Three-hour shifts are regularly scheduled, but adaptations can be made depending on volunteer availability.

Background check required, orientation provided, and staff will be on-site. This opportunity works great for individual volunteers or 2-person teams.

Gathering residents together in community and worship offers them opportunity to gather with family members, other residents and staff to help fulfill their social and spiritual needs.

Volunteers are needed to assist residents in getting to/from our main-floor chapel (on-site) for weekly worship services on Sunday mornings. We have a full house each week and would love to have you assist and enjoy the service!
