826 MSP youth writing center is looking for volunteers with morning/daytime availability to support our Field Trips program! During a field trip, a class of elementary schoolers visits 826 MSP for an immersive creative writing workshop experience. After the trip, students receive a bound book of their work to keep.

826 MSP offers two kinds of field trips to classes across the Twin Cities-Storytelling & Bookmaking Field Trips for 3rd & 4th grade classes (on Tuesdays), and Poetry Navigators Field Trips for 1st & 2nd grade classes (on Thursdays). Field Trips typically run for 2 or 2.5 hours between 10:30 and 2 p.m. The most common session is 10:30-1:00.

There are several volunteer roles for these field trip experiences, and most are beginner friendly!

Typist: During Storytelling & Bookmaking Field Trips, the Typist transcribes the students' ideas into complete sentences to help them create the beginning of their story. (Students finish the story on their own.) Speedy typers wanted!

Illustrator: Do you like to draw or design? The Illustrator volunteer creates a cover design and one inside illustration for each Storytelling & Bookmaking Field Trip book. Illustrations can be done on paper or digitally.

Captain: The Captain is a creative, imaginative volunteer role. As the Captain, you play the voice of our mysterious leader who calls the students to give them their writing mission. A great opportunity for anyone who loves acting, theater, or making kids laugh. Captain volunteers are needed in both Tuesday and Thursday field trips!

Support: Support volunteers work with students one-on-one or in small groups to help and encourage them during the writing process. Support volunteers are needed in both Tuesday and Thursday field trips!

Volunteers in this role will serve as the first point of contact as guests arrive to the M. In this
role, volunteers will monitor the M during open hours, greet visitors, and create a welcoming
environment by engaging in informal conversation, providing information based on visitors’
expressed interests, and overseeing the space and artworks. 

The M provides parking validation or free rides through Metro Transit for all volunteers. 

Volunteers in this role will serve as the first point of contact as guests arrive to the M. In this
role, volunteers will monitor the M during open hours, greet visitors, and create a welcoming
environment by engaging in informal conversation, providing information based on visitors’
expressed interests, and overseeing the space and artworks. 

Help clients of JFCS Senior Services and other programs as necessary, get to medical and other essential appointments; and for personal shopping through the Garber Transportation Program.

Garber Transportation volunteer drivers get to sign up for rides that work for their schedule and use their own car to pick up clients who need rides to appointments and errands.

We are in need of veterans to provide companionship to fellow veterans who are receiving end of life care. Provide friendly visits to veterans in their homes, including nursing facilities, assisted living and memory care units. Our veteran volunteers also assist hospice staff in conducting pinning ceremonies for patients, as well as Veteran's Day and Memorial Day programs. We pair two mentors with each student beginning sophomore year.  100% of our students will go onto a four-year college.  Students will be served through mentoring, academic enrichment, and attendance to best in class summer programs.  Sessions are held in downtown Minneapolis on most Saturdays during the school year from October to May.

 The organization is looking for an additional member for its executive committee in the area of Senior Programming. Details on the role are as follows:.

Designs, organizes and facilitates the Junior Program mentoring sessions for a dozen of students and their volunteers. Needs to have Saturdays from 12-2 off during the school year.

Collaborates with the Co-Directors of Test Prep and Writing & Critical Thinking (W&CT) to coordinate curriculum.

Attends monthly executive committee meetings.

Works with Summer Programming team to help mentors and mentees with the summer program application process.

a Resident Mentor Volunteer is an opportunity to connect with program residents,

For our ACTS Training Program alumni, the first six months of living on their own after
exiting the program are often the hardest. This is largely due to a lack of connection to a
community. The volunteer group/community offers help to a program resident before and
after graduation. Being a Resident Mentor Community Volunteer is an opportunity to show
program alumni they are loved by Jesus and his people.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Meet with individuals for 6 months before the resident’s graduation
• Provide ‘welcome home baskets’ with initial essentials for the resident’s new
home once they graduate (e.g.: cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, basic kitchen
utensils, etc.)
• Continue to be involved in the life of your program alum for six months after
their completion of the program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• A ‘listen first, speak second’ mentality
• Reliable transportation to meeting locations
• Ability to meet consistently with the program resident

The MIND Volunteer Program is designed to proactively address common symptoms and concerns that complicate care and discharge planning for our hospitalized patients. The goal is to prevent patients from experiencing a decline in both their physical and mental health during their hospital stay.

Volunteers are an important part of the care team - making visits to patients, providing companionship, assisting with meals, playing games, engaging in a variety of social activities as well as simple conversation, all of which can stimulate the mind and reduce delirium.

You will create a warm, welcoming environment to small groups of up to 12 people and conduct tours of The Mother Baby Center for prospective or current families using a standardized script. Volunteers must be able to walk/stand for 1 hour and must be dependable. Shifts and tours based on volunteer availability.

Our community choir is looking for volunteer singers to join our mission in providing free performances to individuals in senior living facilities, hospices and rehab hospitals.  We sing a wide variety of SATB choral music.  Members include those who have sung in a high school, church choir or community choir.  Singers should be able to read music but need not be an 'expert'.  Our mission is to bring music to those who have limited access and to have fun.  All ages are welcome.  Must be able to provide own transportation to rehearsals and performances.

We practice on the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 7PM at the Stonecrest Senior Living facility in Woodbury.  Contact Therese Stecher, Director for more information.

Do you like driving and going for rides just to check out the view? So do the individuals with developmental disabilities at one of our homes in Plymouth! As a volunteer, you would use our accessible van, (we will train you!) and take the individuals out and about for a "joy ride". 2 hours once or twice a month would be ideal.

We look for people who have worked with children who can be flexible, patient and have a gentle, nurturing style of interacting with people. A background in the arts would be helpful but is not required.

Training is required. Breanna’s Gift teaching artists work with each volunteer before and during the classes so they are familiar with the projects being taught. This volunteer training is continuous as volunteers work with different artist/teachers from all art disciplines. A background check is required and training includes information about working with children and their families with regard to special needs and confidentiality.

Refugees and others who have a special status arrive in the United States legally after being forced to flee violence and persecution. Once they arrive in Minnesota, LSS Refugee Services works to secure safe and affordable housing for them, offers employment services and empowers them to achieve self-sufficiency and agency. Mentors act as friends and neighbors to newly arrived refugees and support them as they navigate the challenges of resettlement. 

Goal of Position:

To be a guide and friend for a refugee or refugee couple in their challenging first months in the United States. Each paring will involve setting 2-3 goals/focuses for the mentorship.

Sample Activities:

Please Note:

A Case Worker works with each refugee for at least their first 90 days in the US.  These first needs are called the “core services,” including housing, furniture, basic household items, medical care, social security, employment authorization documentation, school enrollment. Mentors are not responsible for these services.

Time Commitment:

Mentors make a commitment to meet at least once a week for three months. This has the potential for extension, if all parties are interested in continuing.

Scheduling:

At the discretion of the volunteer and availability of the refugee.

Assist with transportation needs around the Twin Cities metro. We have situations where a foster is unable to get their foster dog/cat to an appointment and need a team of volunteers willing to transport the foster to/from the appointment. Our goal is to build a list of volunteers willing to help in these situations, we send out the request and drivers available or closest to the foster respond back that they can help. The driver and foster are connected via email/text to work specific details of pick-up/drop-off. Most appointments will be to Vet locations in the Twin Cities metro, Forest Lake, Wyoming or Buffalo.

Time commitment for this role varies depending on the need, but on average each transport could be 2-3 hours.

Flexibility is essential and your own transportation is required. Gas expenses are not covered by the rescue.

The Music For Memories non-profit is looking for piano accompanists/choir leaders to help us expand the number of senior choirs within senior living facilities in the Twin Cities/Western Wisconsin area.

We are looking for volunteers to teach a one-hour online class to beginning or intermediate English Learners. The curriculum is provided to you.  The classes are scheduled between 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Monday - Friday evenings.  We also may schedule a weekend class. 

You will work with a teacher to reinforce the curriculum that students are learning in their other classes.  You usually have between 2-8 students attending a Zoom conference. Training in teaching strategies and Zoom presentations are offered if needed.  Volunteers usually commit to one-two hours a week. 

VSS is looking for volunteers who can assist students online or in person with their digital learning skills. Or, we may ask you to teach a module in class (online or in-person).

Our students receive a Chrome Book to complete homework and attend Zoom classes.  We need to train students on using this technology.  Hours are varied and/or you can attend an appointment with a student. 

VSS has Adult Basic Education classes that are in person Monday through Friday.

The schedule is 9:30 a.m. to noon.   12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. 

We need volunteers to serve as teaching assistants in the beginning and intermediate classes.  Teaching assistants will lead break-out groups, check students' work, and work with students who may be struggling in class.   

Volunteers can come for an hour during class, or for the morning or afternoon session. Volunteers work out a schedule with the teacher, so the teachers can prepare work or assignments prior to the class. Volunteers usually commit to 1 to 3 hours per week. 

VSS needs individuals interested in helping our clients with day-to-day activities as clients learn how to navigate government and medical assistance.

This position will help 200 Orphanages Worldwide tell its compelling story. We desire to expand our reach in order to provide safety, shelter and sustainability for more orphans around the world.

General Description Of the Position: The 200 Orphanages Worldwide Board is vital to the continued success of the organization. The main purpose of the Executive Board Member is to serve as an ambassador for 200 Orphanages Worldwide in their community and within professional and personal networks. Doing this means to seek out additional committed supporters, donors, volunteers and advisors to serve and to support fund raising efforts for our partner projects. Also it is critical to support the organization by providing direction, clear focus and operational support if applicable.  

Volunteer with a person with a developmental disability who wants to volunteer in their community. Thus, Volunteer Squared! Do volunteer activities together like stocking food shelves, participate at Feed My Starving Children, etc. Any type of volunteering you would both enjoy. You would pick up the individual at our Plymouth location, drive them to the volunteer opportunity, and participate with them. 2 hours once a month (or more if desired) would be ideal.

Volunteers needed to come in and help sort donations, price merchandise, tag clothes, stock the store and more! Please come check us out! If under the age of 14 years old, please have an adult with you (Great way for youths of all ages to get volunteer hours and have fun at the same time!).  New Day Thrift Store is open to the community and proceeds go to New Day Pregnancy & Family Resource Center. We provide practical assistance to moms with babies and small children. Please come in and support a great cause!

Job Description

The Parkinson's Foundation Minnesota & Dakotas Chapter seeks interested individuals to serve on our Chapter Board. The volunteer board is made up of diverse professionals committed increase awareness, increase the Chapter's reach, and helping raise funds to serve more people living with Parkinson's disease, their care partners, clinicians, and supportive professionals. The Parkinson's Foundation is an established national nonprofit with an annual budget of $50M. Seventeen chapters nationwide support initiatives on the ground while helping strategize programs, research, and grant-making. The Minnesota and Dakotas Chapter Board will help us to reach all 17,088 individuals living with PD in our 3-state area. The Board meets virtually 6 times/ year, and committees of the Board meet as needed. Depending on their skills, interests, and networks/industries, members take on individual and project-based work. A modest personal financial contribution, as well as a commitment to active fundraising, is expected. The Parkinson's community is inspiring and strong, and our National Board and regional staff and volunteers are genuinely supportive. Help us create an electronic newsletter on a monthly schedule to distribute to professionals in Minnesota. Experience with Mail Chimp is helpful but not essential. It may be possible to work off site after initial meeting/s in person. Hours at work are flexible according to convenience of volunteer as long as publish deadline is met. Expected hours per month is unknown at this time but estimated to be around four hours a month after basic learning is completed.   

Project Pathfinder, Inc. (PPI) seeks individuals interested in supporting a program that has been committed to preventing sexual violence for 30 years! PPI is a private, non-profit (501 (c) (3)) corporation serving clients in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The majority of referrals come from the Twin Cities metro area, counties southwest of the Twin Cities as well as counties in southeastern Minnesota. A volunteer Board of Directors governs PPI and meets bi-monthly with additional committee involvement based on your skills or interests.

 Mission: To provide psychotherapy, consultation, training and research in a way that:

 a) Prevents further sexual violence and abuse

 b) Protects the community interests

 Other Project Pathfinder, Inc. staff members are active with other community agencies as determined by client and community needs. Agencies with which we relate include county child protection, mental health agencies, county attorneys, victim advocate services, courts, sexual assault protocol teams, and legal services. PPI has a history of leadership in the sex offender treatment community. PPI is represented at the Minnesota Association for Treatment of Sexual Abusers (including Board membership), Ramsey County Sexual Assault Protocol Team, Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and other associations with similar missions. PPI has been a leader in policy making in the field of sex offender specific treatment and past PPI staff have gone on to influential positions within the broader professional community of mental health and sex offender specific work.

We are in need of volunteer fosters to care for dogs, cats and kittens in your home until an adoptive home is found.  Second Chance provides the supplies you will need to care for the animal(s).  We train you in the process and are available to assist with questions you may have.  All animals are seen by a vet prior to them coming into your home.  We ask that you have a separate room for cats or kittens to become acclimated to your home prior to slowly adjusting.  Please help us save more lives.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer to aid our transportation team and our many group homes. In this role, you will provide valuable support to OP by delivering pre-made meals to several of these group homes in the Twin Cities West Metro area (including but not limited to Plymouth, Bloomington, Richfield, New Hope, and Crystal). Your contribution will help us in furthering our mission and providing more support and opportunities for people with disabilities.

You are simply asked to be friendly and as helpful as you can be. Training will be provided. There is optional book shelving, and tidying up. You will help people check-out books, may occasionally send a fax or make a photocopy. Volunteers do have to fill out a volunteer application and have a background check. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to work alone.

3-6pm is a great time to volunteer if you would like to tutor school age youth.
