Volunteer: FamilyWise On-Call VolunteerThere is no doubt the world has changed since 2020, but something that has increased is volunteerism. Since COVID, FamilyWise no longer has the constant volunteer opportunities we used to. In response to having opportunities but not having the people to help, we want to start a FamilyWise Volunteer on-call directory. Essentially, when we have an opportunity, whether it be something one person can do for an hour or a group can do for a day, I will send it out to the directory and see if anyone is available. FamilyWise will also be restarting the Volunteer Newsletter this summer where opportunities will also be shared. Here is the link to become an on-call volunteer for FamilyWise Services: Volunteer Interest Form

Volunteer: Small Group Caregiving ProjectAre you part of a small group that is looking to help others? How about providing respite to caregivers of older adults, or caregivers to those with disabilities? By doing this you are giving these caregivers, who often put their wellbeing on hold, a break. Your group would be providing companionship to the care receiver by exploring mutual interests whether that’s building puzzles, playing games, watching movies etc. During this time the caregiver can do what they need to do. Volunteers are not expected to, nor should they be asked to help the clients in the bathroom, with medications or other personal tasks. Our current volunteers really like the bond they build with the families and how much of an impact they make on our clients’ lives. Everyone in your small group would go through training and, when a good match is found, meet the family. Then the small group would work together so one or two people would be with the caregiver for at least two hours every week. We have no set time for volunteers and clients to meet so you can volunteer on your schedule. We do ask for a 3-month commitment. Volunteer: Memory Loss Assistant Field Trip GuideWho didn’t love going on a field trip in school? Going to different sites, learning something new, and just getting the chance to get out of school. FamilyMeans Community Connection takes the fun of a field trip and applies to adults with early-stage memory loss. During a Community Connection we meet at a set location and each week explore different topics or do different activities. This gets our clients out of the house and participate in activities that are designed specifically for them. You will not be asked to drive clients you just simply have to show up at the proper location.
We need people who are willing to attend these sessions and help provide a fun and safe environment for our clients. This could mean helping to set up and clean up after activities, being a discussion guide, and helping clients participate in activities.
We ask volunteers stay for an entire session which is 4 hours (1/2 hour before, 3 hours program and ½ hour afterward). Sessions will be weekly for 4 to 6 weeks. It would be great if a volunteer could attend every session but we don’t require it. Nonprofit: FamilyMeans Who didn’t love going on a field trip in school? Volunteer: Dog and Cat FostersProviding foster care for a dog or a cat can be a very rewarding experience, but it has its share of responsibilities and challenges as well. Dogs and Cats come to Pet Haven through our Shelter Partners and from Crisis Owner Surrenders. While we try to gain as much information as we can on the health, behavior, and personality of each animal we bring in, there are often many unknowns. Fosters need to be willing to work within the animal’s timelines and needs, giving the animal the space to adjust to their new home and all the changes they have been through. This requires compassion, kindness, patience, and persistence. Experience with animals is helpful but not a requirement. Fostering can be an excellent way to determine if you are cut out for pet ownership, or if it is feasible to add another pet to your household. Please fill out a foster application here! Nonprofit: Pet Haven of Minnesota Providing foster care for a dog or a cat can be a very rewarding experience, but it has its share of responsibilities and challenges as well. Dogs and Cats come to Pet Haven through our Shelter Partners and from Crisis Owner Surrenders. Volunteer: Store Cat Caretaker (Eden Prairie Petco)Twin Cities Pet Rescue is partnering with the Petco store in Eden Prairie to house store cats for adoption! We need volunteers that can check in on the cats, deep clean their condos, and provide additional enrichment for the kitties while they are waiting to be adopted!
Volunteers can choose their own schedule and can visit the store as often as once a month to a couple times a week. Times are also very flexible and just need to be within store hours. We use the Slack app to connect the store cat team with each other and share updates on visits. So having a mobile phone or computer that can access the internet is important. Visits are typically 30 mins each but can be longer if you want! Overall, this is a very flexible role that provides hands-on cat care without having kitties physically in your home!

If interested, please submit a volunteer application here:
