Volunteer: Animal Foster Home - Dog, Cat, or CritterInterested in Becoming a Foster? Foster care is the most important part of Ruff Start Rescue. The animals depend on qualified people to join our team. RSR is looking for fosters to open their hearts and homes to animals in need and care for them until they are adopted. An RSR fosters responsibility is to love, feed, play and exercise, and provide social interaction for the foster animal. You are also required to take the animal to vet appointments and handle any medical tasks such as giving daily medications. It will always involve treating the animal as if it were your own. It’s easy to get started! The first step is to fill out and submit a foster application at: https://ruffstartrescue.org/get-involved/foster/ After RSR receives and reviews your application a home visit will be scheduled so you can meet someone from the rescue and discuss your questions and concerns about fostering an RSR animal. If everything goes well you will be able to begin your new role as an RSR foster. All Ruff Start Rescue Fosters MUST: Have all of their pets spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines. Be patient! There is no set amount of time a foster pet will be at your home. We do not want to have to move foster pets from one foster home to another. Constant moving can really set back their rehabilitation. We do expect our fosters to be patient and keep their foster pet until they get adopted. Be willing to work with their foster pets. Many of these animals are coming directly from shelter environments, have been picked up as strays, came from a life inside of a small cage at a puppy mill or were treated with malicious intent. Many simply have no idea how to behave inside of a home. It's not their fault, and they can learn with PATIENCE, GUIDANCE, LOVE, and CONSISTENCY. Attend at least one Adoption Event a month. Have the foster animals on a leash when outside at ALL time, unless you have a completely fenced in yard. Exercise their foster pet adequately. Foster dogs are expected to have daily walks. Be willing to drive their foster pet to their vet appointments at one of the Vet clinics we work with. Give their foster pets their medication if they need it! If your foster pet needs medication, you will be expected to give them their medication on time and in the correct doses. Send updates on their foster pets to their Placement Coordinator on a regular basis. This would include the foster pet's likes, dislikes, biographies, and of course...lots of pictures!! These will all need to be kept as up to date as possible. Supervise their foster pet at all times. When no one is at home, the foster pets should be baby gated or crated, if necessary, for safety. You must have your own homeowners insurance or renters liability coverage before fostering with RSR.**There are always animals that need a loving foster home and we will work with you to determine the ones that will best fit with your lifestyle. ** Questions about becoming a foster? Feel free to email us at: foster@ruffstartrescue.org Nonprofit: Ruff Start Rescue Interested in Becoming a Foster? Volunteer: Support Health and Healing from Home by Dropping Off a Meal!Who We Are Clare Housing is a Minneapolis-based non-profit agency that provides affordable housing with services to over 300 individuals and families living with HIV/ AIDS. Our residents have often experienced systemic and individual harm and discrimination, so it is our goal to provide them with environments and programs that feel dignifying, welcoming, destigmatizing, supportive, humanizing, and compassionate. This goal is not achievable without the partnership of neighbors and friends from the broader community (such as you!). The Opportunity While dining at a restaurant or getting take-out can be a fun treat, there is nothing quite like a home-cooked meal that brings up sweet memories or connects us to familial and cultural heritage. As many have said, it often contains a special ingredient: love! If you enjoy food and believe in its power to connect (even if you don’t consider yourself a gourmet cook), we invite you to prepare a meal for those in our Community Care Homes! Each home houses 4 residents and is staffed around the clock by 1-2 caregivers. While the caregivers often prepare meals for the house, it’s a relief for them to simply be able to pull something out of the fridge or freezer and heat it up when days get unexpectedly busy. You can prepare a meal for 4-6 folks at home, drop it off at your convenience, and savor the sweetness of knowing that your meal will provide nutrition, comfort, and wellbeing for your neighbors. Note: we welcome one-time volunteers for this opportunity, as well as those who can make an ongoing commitment (monthly, weekly, biweekly, etc.) Want to learn more? The total cost of putting together a welcome basket of new items is about $500, with each one including: Small Appliances (coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, etc.) Utensils Dishes Pots & Pans Sheets & Towels Cleaning Supplies Paper Products Large, lidded, plastic storage containersPlease reach out if you and/or your organization would like to put some baskets together (this is a great opportunity for groups!); we would be so glad to have your support in welcoming our new neighbors home! For a complete list of items, check out our Target Registry at https://www.target.com/gift-registry/gift/clare-welcome-baskets. Items purchased do not need to be the exact ones in the registry, but each type of item must be included in the basket (e.g. - towels do not need to be Room Essentials brand, but towels must be included). Volunteer: Master Water Stewards (Age 18 +)The Master Water Stewards program certifies and supports community leaders to protect and improve the health of MN's water. Wherever you live, you can join over 250 Master Water Steward volunteers and work in our own community to contribute to the millions of gallons of polluted stormwater that stewards are keeping out of our lakes and rivers each year. Everything on city streets flows to our water- bacteria, salt, litter, sediment, fertilizer. Each year, more polluted runoff reach our lakes and rivers faster, causing flooding downstream. Pollutants are not being filtered or broken down by passing through the soil, making water dirtier.
