Volunteer: Quilters & Sewers making Remembrance Quilt SquaresWhen a member of our Knute Nelson/Walker Methodist community passes away, our team members join family and friends in grieving the loss. Team members get to know and care about each of our residents and patients. They carry the memories of residents they’ve known and enjoyed with them for the rest of their lives. We have traditions to honor a community member when they pass away. First, as a person leaves their Knute Nelson/Walker Methodist community for the last time, we wrap their body in a beautiful handmade quilt. We treat each person with the same care and respect we showed them while they were alive. We also have a tradition of giving a handcrafted, single quilt square to the family of a departed resident. A quilt square can serve as a memento of a loved one. Holding it or carrying it in a pocket can remind us of our loved one and the good times shared and can bring peace of mind and spirit. Your efforts help maintain a safe and nurturing environment where participants can connect with horses, find peace, and experience personal growth. Time Commitment: Volunteers can sign up for one hour, half-day, full-day, or ongoing shifts. We also offer special “Volunteer Work Days” where larger projects are tackled with the help of many hands. How to Sign Up: Interested volunteers can sign up on our website (https://www.windfallequestriancenter.com/windfall-equine-therapy-center-volunteer-application/) or contact our volunteer coordinator to discuss the best ways to contribute based on your skills, interests, and availability. Nonprofit: Windfall Equine Therapy Center Volunteer Opportunity: Barn Beautification and Maintenance Who We Are: Our mission is to partner equine and mental health professionals with the unique gifts of the horse to offer hope, healing, compassion, confidence and strength to veterans and underprivileged children. Through horsemanship, our facilitators help to identify and improve an individual’s struggles with trust, mindfulness, empathy as well as communication and leadership skills. Overview: Join us for a rewarding volunteer experience that supports our equine-assisted therapy program, which provides healing and growth opportunities for at-risk youth and veterans. Whether you’re an individual or part of a group, your efforts will directly contribute to creating a safe, welcoming, and therapeutic environment for our participants and horses. Volunteer Tasks: Stable and Barn Care: Cleaning and Organizing: Help with mucking stalls, sweeping aisles, and organizing tack and feed rooms. Keeping the barn clean and organized ensures a healthy environment for our horses and a pleasant space for participants. Minor Repairs: Assist with fixing fences, repairing gates, or doing light carpentry work around the barn. Handy volunteers can make a big difference in maintaining a safe space. Grounds Maintenance: Landscaping: Participate in activities such as weeding, planting flowers, and maintaining pastures. This keeps our facility inviting and calm, which is essential for the therapeutic process. Trail Maintenance: Help maintain and clear riding trails used in therapy sessions. This may involve trimming branches, picking up debris, or adding new markers along the paths. Horse Care Assistance: Grooming and Feeding: Assist with grooming the horses, filling water buckets, and preparing forage. While direct horse handling may require some prior experience, these tasks are crucial in keeping our horses healthy and happy. Tack Cleaning: Help clean and organize halters, lead ropes, carrot sticks, and other equipment to ensure they are in good condition for therapy sessions. Special Projects: Art and Creative Contributions: Volunteers with artistic skills can help design and paint murals, signs, or create other decorative elements around the facility that add to the therapeutic atmosphere. Videography/Photography: Volunteers interested in photography, videography, or media development can help create social media, newsletter, fliers or other content that help spread the word about services offered and volunteer opportunities. Event Preparation: Help set up for special events or fundraisers, including setting up tents, arranging seating, and decorating the space. Administrative Support: Office Assistance: For those who prefer indoor work, there’s always a need for help with marketing, fundraising, filing, data entry, or preparing materials for upcoming sessions and events. Who Can Volunteer: This opportunity is perfect for individuals, families, corporate groups, or community organizations. Volunteer: Food Shelf volunteers neededWe have a pet food shelf at our Minneapolis Resource Center (2501 Minnehaha Ave). We see about 1,000 households a month, who rely on our support in order to keep their pets. We distribute pet food, supplies, and host multiple low-cost vetting clinics each month. We need volunteers on Tuesday and Thursday evenings each week, as well as Saturday during the day. Volunteers guide shoppers through the food shelf, helping them choose pet food and supplies that are the best fit for their needs. Duties also include restocking shelves. Volunteer: Computer Lab Assistant (Age 16 +)St. Paul Public Housing Agency (PHA) is seeking volunteers to help adults and youth at two of our family housing developments: McDonough Homes on Timberlake and Mt. Airy Homes on Arch Street(all in the City of St. Paul). Some of our residents cannot afford a home computer or they do not have the skills to use a computer to meet personal goals, such as looking for a job. Volunteers can use their technological skills to tutor users with limited knowledge of how to use the internet or software programs. Many of our public housing residents are immigrants with limited English proficiency. Your tasks may include: assist a resident in using a mouse, keyboarding, turning the processor on, troubleshoot printing issues or a software program that isn't working properly. Qualifications: willingness and interest in working with non-English speaking residents is important. Experience and patience in providing IT support is valued. A criminal history background check will be required. Individuals who successfully pass a background check will be required to sign a volunteer agreement, complete data safety training and attend an orientation session prior to starting their actual volunteer hours. Please contact: Elizabeth Pacunas, Resident Initiatives Coordinator, at: 651-298-4929 or elizabeth.pacunas@stpha.org for more information and/or to submit your resume. Volunteer: Animal Foster Home - Dog, Cat, or CritterInterested in Becoming a Foster? Foster care is the most important part of Ruff Start Rescue. The animals depend on qualified people to join our team. RSR is looking for fosters to open their hearts and homes to animals in need and care for them until they are adopted. An RSR fosters responsibility is to love, feed, play and exercise, and provide social interaction for the foster animal. You are also required to take the animal to vet appointments and handle any medical tasks such as giving daily medications. It will always involve treating the animal as if it were your own. It’s easy to get started! The first step is to fill out and submit a foster application at: https://ruffstartrescue.org/get-involved/foster/ After RSR receives and reviews your application a home visit will be scheduled so you can meet someone from the rescue and discuss your questions and concerns about fostering an RSR animal. If everything goes well you will be able to begin your new role as an RSR foster. All Ruff Start Rescue Fosters MUST: Have all of their pets spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines. Be patient! There is no set amount of time a foster pet will be at your home. We do not want to have to move foster pets from one foster home to another. Constant moving can really set back their rehabilitation. We do expect our fosters to be patient and keep their foster pet until they get adopted. Be willing to work with their foster pets. Many of these animals are coming directly from shelter environments, have been picked up as strays, came from a life inside of a small cage at a puppy mill or were treated with malicious intent. Many simply have no idea how to behave inside of a home. It's not their fault, and they can learn with PATIENCE, GUIDANCE, LOVE, and CONSISTENCY. Attend at least one Adoption Event a month. Have the foster animals on a leash when outside at ALL time, unless you have a completely fenced in yard. Exercise their foster pet adequately. Foster dogs are expected to have daily walks. Be willing to drive their foster pet to their vet appointments at one of the Vet clinics we work with. Give their foster pets their medication if they need it! If your foster pet needs medication, you will be expected to give them their medication on time and in the correct doses. Send updates on their foster pets to their Placement Coordinator on a regular basis. This would include the foster pet's likes, dislikes, biographies, and of course...lots of pictures!! These will all need to be kept as up to date as possible. Supervise their foster pet at all times. When no one is at home, the foster pets should be baby gated or crated, if necessary, for safety. You must have your own homeowners insurance or renters liability coverage before fostering with RSR.**There are always animals that need a loving foster home and we will work with you to determine the ones that will best fit with your lifestyle. ** Questions about becoming a foster?
