Volunteer: Fundraising Equine/Human/Art rescue/sanctuary

Fundraising:

Art, Heart and Hoofbeats - Equine Rescue and Sanctuary is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that runs entirely on donations. We are always on the look out for help in procuring monetary donations and sponsorship, both private and corporate. We also often need individuals to collect donations of goods and services for special events (for example, gift cards and items for silent auctions). We have also received many wonderful donations from clubs, groups, and individuals who have chosen to hold a “AHH Benefit” Event. Some ideas for this would be fun shows, tack sales, rummage sales, bake sales, or informational booths at local feed or tack stores. If you are interested in holding this sort of fundraiser to help the horses and people served at AHH, please let us know!

Volunteer: Volunteers for Lending Events at South Minneapolis Toy Library (Age 14+)

Thank you for your contribution to this community effort! Lending events wouldn't be possible without your help!

Volunteers help members check toys in-and-out, with our user-friendly, custom-built computer program, as well as keep track of toys in the inventory (counting pieces etc.).

Volunteers also help to re-shelve returned toys and keep the space looking presentable.

Events can be fast-paced and fun! Take some time away from the kids and feel good about helping the community!

We especially need help on the Wednesday evening shift.  This one is difficult for us to fill.  Even an hour or two can really help us out to keep our doors open for lending hours.

Great opportunity for students who need to full fill volunteer hours for school!

Volunteer: Sort Fresh Food for Families at Today's Harvest - Free Food Market

Description

Powered by Open Cupboard, Today’s Harvest depends on the dedication of volunteers like you to serve families in need. This role is perfect if you’re looking for a hands-on, active, and fun way to give back to your community!

Today’s Harvest offers a fresh approach to food access. By rescuing food that might otherwise go to waste, we provide neighbors with a changing selection of fresh produce, bread, meat, and other staples. Each visit gives households a 1–2 day supply of nutritious food, helping families stretch their budgets. Guests are welcome to visit as often as needed.

Open six days a week, Today’s Harvest is a bustling market that simply wouldn’t run without the support of our amazing volunteers. From stocking shelves to greeting guests, there’s always meaningful work to do—and every shift makes a real difference.

Food Sorting Overview

Food sorting plays a vital role in ensuring that families who visit Today’s Harvest receive healthy, safe, and high-quality food—all while helping reduce food waste in our community.

Food sorting is the process of organizing and preparing rescued food so it’s safe, fresh, and ready to share with our community. When food donations arrive—often from grocery stores, food rescue partners, or community drives—volunteers help sort through the items to check for quality and safety.

This includes:

Separating food into categories such as produce, bread, meat, dairy, and dry goods.

Removing items that are spoiled, damaged, or unsafe to distribute.

Organizing market-ready food so it can be stocked quickly and efficiently.

Composting, garbage or recycling items when appropriate.

Requirements

Volunteers must be age 15 or older Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift 20 pounds Volunteers are required to wear close-toed shoes

Schedule

Mondays-Fridays: 10:00am - 12:00pm or 12:00 - 3:00pm

Locations

Following volunteer training in September - October, spend a full Saturday or Sunday of your choice in November through February judging or refereeing at a High Tech Kids Robotics Tournament. Kids will explain what they learned and built through these FIRST programs. Judges ask questions and provide encouragement to teams during judging sessions, then collaborate with other judges to determine award winners. Referees officiate robot performance matches, tabulate scores, and encourage teams in a fun, energy-filled environment.

Address is our office, but tournaments are held at various schools in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota.

Training is offered live in September - October, see our website for details https://hightechkids.org/volunteer-overview/training-volunteer/. New volunteers will be paired with an experienced volunteer at their first event. Please see our website to learn more about these exciting programs, the volunteer roles, and to see the full Tournament Schedule then sign up via our Volunteer Sign up page. Contact Katie at katie@hightechkids.org or visit https://hightechkids.org/volunteer-overview/ for more information.

Volunteer: Make an Impact in Your Community: Mentor a Young Parent!

Joining the FamilyWise community as a Bright Beginnings parent mentor is one of the most powerful ways to make an impact as a volunteer, especially now: we have revamped our program and need dedicated community members to support young parents!

Mentors meet with young parents in-person biweekly and connect weekly by phone. In addition, mentors help out with meals and transportation for the all-participant meeting every other month. Bright Beginnings is a great opportunity to personally connect with a young parent and create a long-term connection!

Once you join, FamilyWise provides all the mentor training and staff support you’ll need. Because young parents need both consistency and stability, we ask volunteer mentors for a one-year commitment to our Bright Beginnings program. Our Mentor Specialist will connect with mentors and mentees individually once a month to provide support to those involved in the program.

Participation in Bright Beginnings is free for young parents.

In a mentor, we are looking for someone who will:

Commit to being involved with your mentee for at least one year Respect individuals’ right to make their own choices in life Have the ability to empathize with another person’s struggles Be able to see solutions and opportunities as well as barriers. Be flexible and open. Pass a background check

FamilyWise is located in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota and mentors would need to live in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Multi-Shift Commitment

To provide the best experience for both kids and volunteers, we require volunteers to sign up for at least 1 shift a month

Why is this important?

For the kids: Familiar faces help build trust and create a safe, welcoming space. For you: More shifts mean more fun, stronger connections, and a chance to truly see the impact you’re making. For the team: Having committed volunteers ensures smooth operations and more focus on the kids.

Whether you are passionate about youth development, education, sports, or community building, volunteering with Sanneh is a powerful way to make a difference this summer. Be part of a team working to empower youth through belonging, mentorship, and joyful learning.

Volunteer: Tour Guide for Field Trips to The Bakken Museum

The Bakken Museum is seeking guides for our museum tours throughout the year, especially to support our field trip program during the school year. Most often, tours are for elementary-aged groups of students, though guides may also provide tours for adult groups, senior groups, and non-school student groups. Experience with school children and with diverse populations is strongly recommended, and a background or interest in STEM-related curriculum is preferred.

We ask volunteers to commit to a weekly or biweekly shift. Shifts include 2 tours with a brief break, taking place on weekday mornings, starting at 9:30, 10, or 10:30am.

Our volunteer tour guides must be compassionate individuals capable of managing time, managing groups of students, and delivering science content with accuracy and enthusiasm.

For more information, please visit The Bakken's Volunteer Info Page to learn more about the position requirements as well as other volunteer opportunities at The Bakken Museum. Contact Will at elsas@thebakken.org to learn how to get involved!

Volunteer: In-home respite- Central Washington County

FamilyMeans is looking for volunteers willing to provide in-home respite to families. In-home respite consists of going into caregivers’ homes weekly and providing nonmedical care to care receivers. This can consist of playing games, having conversations, doing other activities or just being there with the care receiver. Volunteers are asked to volunteer 3 hours a week. These times are flexible and can be done at whatever time works best for you and the family you are matched with. This can be done individually, as a family project, or as a small group.

Is this opportunity right for me…

Current FamilyMeans in-home respite differ greatly in their personalities and why they chose this option. Here are some of the reasons why volunteers chose this option and continue volunteering.

o   They appreciated flexible hours. There is no set time so volunteers can volunteer at times that fit their schedule.

o   Some volunteers enjoy being one on one with people rather than being in a group setting.

o   Some volunteers really like the social aspect of this opportunity. Since we carefully match volunteers and clients based on personalities and interests, to them it feels like spending 3 hours with a friend.

o   Some volunteers like the gratification that comes with this opportunity. Volunteers get to see how the work they do benefits the caregiver.
