Volunteer: Collective Caring Drive - Looking for Sponsors!

Collective Caring is a monthly program that enables local businesses, organizations, and groups to collect needed items at our warehouse for the month. Sponsors can host the whole month, a couple weeks or even a week. Monthly sponsors will collect items needed at the warehouse such as personal hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies, sheets/towels, etc. at their place of business or other locations they designate. At the end of the month the sponsor will drop off the donation to our Anoka MN warehouse to replenish our shelves.

These items are the most popular items that fly off our warehouse shelves. As a reminder, we provide everything at our warehouse free of charge to case workers in Anoka and Sherburne County who work with seniors and adults with disabilities so that they can feel empowered to maintain their quality of life.

This opportunity can be physically demanding, and there is some heavy lifting involved. However, we work as a team to lighten the load.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one Tuesday morning a month for 1.5 -2.0 hours.

  o  Working with each participant to better understand their individual needs
  o  Customizing the number of calls made per week, typically between 2 and 4. During these calls, the Sunshine Caller lets the client guide the conversation with topics (like gardening or new recipes, that they want to talk about).

Do you have some free time and a big heart? Lyngblomsten residents look forward to connecting with friendly volunteers like you through our Special Friend program. This is a wonderful opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with an elder in our community and make a real difference in their life.

As a "Special Friend" volunteer, you'll be matched with a resident who shares similar interests or simply enjoys having a regular visitor. Your visits can be as unique as the bond you form! Here are just a few examples of how you might spend your time together:

Engage in friendly conversation: Share stories, listen to memories, and enjoy each other's company.Participate in shared hobbies: Work on puzzles, play cards or board games, read together, or simply enjoy a quiet moment. We recently received a request for a volunteer who likes to sew!Outdoor enjoyment (weather permitting): Take a short stroll or relax on the patio together.Spontaneous Visits: We also have residents who would welcome occasional, spur-of-the-moment visits for a quick chat and some friendly interaction.

The Open Door provides families opportunities to grow their own food through our Garden to Table program. With 7 community gardens around Dakota County, we support families that want to grow their own food.

Volunteer: Warehouse Assistant

The Open Door is a hunger relief organization dedicated to ending local hunger through access to healthy food. Through its collective programs, The Open Door serves more than 20,000 Dakota County residents each month, and distributes over 5 million pounds of food annually-70% of which is fresh and/or perishable. Clients are able to access healthy food choices through a fixed-site food pantry in Eagan, multiple Mobile Pantry sites, the Mobile Lunch Box, and the Garden To Table program.

 

Position Summary:

Warehouse Assistants ensure dry goods and perishable items in the pantry are well stocked. They will also help pull items for offsite distributions, accept and sort incoming donations, and assist with the general upkeep of the warehouse area.

 

Primary Duties and Essential Responsibilities:

• Ensure store is well stocked with perishable and nonperishable foods prior to the start of client appointments .

• Accept and sort incoming donations.

• During store hours, pull dry goods from the warehouse for Pantry Assistants to stock shelves

• Ensure warehouse is clean and organized.

• Restock refrigerated perishable items during store hours

• Unload dry good pallets

• Accept and repackage incoming Garden to Table produce

• Mop and sweep floors 15 minutes prior to store open

 

Skills and Qualifications:

• Must be 16+ years of age unless accompanied by an adult

• Ability to stand on feet for up to 3 hours

Position Summary:

Warehouse Assistants ensure dry goods and perishable items in the pantry are well stocked. They will also help pull items for offsite distributions, accept and sort incoming donations, and assist with the general upkeep of the warehouse area.

 

Primary Duties and Essential Responsibilities:

• Ensure store is well stocked with perishable and nonperishable foods prior to the start of client appointments .

• Accept and sort incoming donations.

• During store hours, pull dry goods from the warehouse for Pantry Assistants to stock shelves

• Ensure warehouse is clean and organized.

• Restock refrigerated perishable items during store hours

• Unload dry good pallets

• Accept and repackage incoming Garden to Table produce

• Mop and sweep floors 15 minutes prior to store open

OFFSITE OPPORTUNITY!!! Help Bridging Stock the Shelves! Imagine how you could cook a meal without basic kitchen utensils or sleep without a pillow or blanket?

Thousands of local families and individuals face this situation every day.

By hosting an Essentials Drive at your workplace, faith-based organization, or in your community, you can help provide essential items to households in need while raising awareness. Bridging serves an average of 120 households each week.

Location: Off-site at your work, school, faith-based organization, and in your community.

Organize a drive today! Help us stock the shelves so we can serve over 300 people (120 households) every week. Essential Drives allow us to fill the gaps in donations and make sure families have what they need to fully function in their new home.

Coordinator’s Guide is available with full details to get started. New or gently-used items accepted. Promotional support and templates are available for each type of project.

Types of Essentials Drives:

Blankets: All sizes (twin, full, queen, and king) wanted. We need blankets for over 300 people each week!

Towels: All sizes and types wanted. Our goal is to provide one bath towel per person. That's over 13,000 towels each year!

Kitchen Packs: Include a can opener, mixing spoon, spatula, utility scissors, pizza cutter, and a container to hold items. We need over 120 packs per week to give each home a pack.

Cleaning Kits: Include dish scrubber, rubber gloves, sponges, hard surface scrub brush, dust cloths, and a container to hold items (bucket or shoebox size bin). (No cleansers/chemicals please). We need over 120 packs per week to give each home a kit.

Cribbage is a beloved pastime here at Lyngblomsten, and our residents eagerly look forward to their weekly matches. As a Cribbage Buddy, you'll have the opportunity to:

Play friendly games of cribbage with individual residents or small groups. Help residents with counting and pegging, if needed. Foster social interaction and create a fun, engaging atmosphere. Share laughs and build meaningful connections with our residents. Experience the joy of bringing smiles and stimulating minds through a classic game.

Our cribbage sessions are known to be quite spirited and full of good-natured rivalry! If you enjoy a bit of friendly competition and have a knack for making others feel comfortable, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you.

Time Commitment:

We are looking for volunteers who can help at one or both of our weekly sessions:

Tuesdays: 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM Mondays: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

You do not have to make a weekly commitment; you can pick the shifts that work with your schedule.

Our cribbage sessions are known to be quite spirited and full of good-natured rivalry! If you enjoy a bit of friendly competition and have a knack for making others feel comfortable, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you.

Time Commitment:

We are looking for volunteers who can help at one or both of our weekly sessions:

Tuesdays: 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM Mondays: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

You do not have to make a weekly commitment; you can pick the shifts that work with your schedule.

Skills/Qualifications:

A basic understanding of the rules of cribbage is required. Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in interacting with older adults. Good communication and interpersonal skills.A positive and enthusiastic attitude!

-Please come to the MATTER office located at 7005 Oxford Street, St. Louis Park. Look for the orange awning to enter the building. Street parking is available along Oxford Street. 
-Shifts are in 2-hour increments, but you are not required to stay the full 2 hours. Only pack to your comfort level.
-Please wear comfortable clothing. Our volunteer space is in a warehouse so the temperature will vary by season. 
-Closed toe shoes are required in the warehouse.
-Minors need to be of the age that they can pack at a station by themselves. Station tables are about 2 1/2 feet high. 12 yrs old and up is recommended.

Safety:
-You will be asked to wash your hands upon arrival before beginning any volunteer tasks. 
-You will be packing in a spacious warehouse and tables are well spaced. 
-Facial coverings are optional.
-Hand sanitizer available.
-Please stay home if you are feeling ill (cough/fever/chills), or if you have been exposed to someone who is or has been ill (whether or not they have been diagnosed with COVID-19). We encourage you to reschedule for another time when you are healthy!
