Wish granters are essential to fulfilling each child’s wish. They work in teams of two or three and help the wish child determine their heartfelt wish. Wish granters create an exceptional wish experience through building a relationship with the child and their family. Wish children come from all different backgrounds and cultures, so with the help of bilingual wish granters, a wish child can communicate in a language that they are most comfortable with during the wish process! It also greatly reduces the stress for other family members. We welcome all applicants, but have a particular need for volunteers who can speak Spanish, Hmong, Somali, Oromo, and Arabic at any level of proficiency. ASL is also in demand. Training is provided and is flexible with your schedule!

This is a wonderful opportunity to create hope, strength, and joy for a child with a critical illness! Wish granters will be able to build a relationship with a child in their community and connect with the child’s family. Wish granters assist the child throughout the whole process from helping brainstorm wish ideas, to helping make it all come true. What will volunteers do?  

Hygiene insecurity affects thousands of individuals and families—impacting dignity, health, and opportunity. Many go without basic items like soap, shampoo, or period products simply because they can't afford them. Bridge to Basics is Minnesota’s first nonprofit dedicated to closing that gap. Thank you for your interest in supporting our mission.

We invite you to host a Hygiene Drive to collect personal care products and help ensure everyone in our community has access to daily essentials for a healthy life.

This is a great way to create a fun service project for your organization, business or community. Timing and goals are determined by you; however, needed products and criteria are listed below (note: you do not need to collect all but could focus on Oral or Body Care for instance). We will provide you with a toolkit on how to execute a successful drive.

If you'd like, a representative from Bridge to Basics can come speak to your group about hygiene insecurity, research and our mission. We can also bring a branded barrel to host your donations.

All products can be dropped off at our warehouse or picked up by a Bridge to Basics' volunteer. These items are then added to the hygiene bank inventory and donated to local nonprofits serving hygiene insecure neighbors.

Did you know that more than half of food shelf shoppers struggle to afford personal hygiene products every month? This is because hygiene items are not covered by government assistance, have limited availability at food shelves (if at all) and are expensive. Let's help address this need buy filling bags for families.

We are looking for businesses, community groups and neighbors to buy full size personal hygiene products and fill grocery bags with them for neighbors struggling to afford hygiene items. These bags will be given to food shelves, schools, housing providers and refugee services organizations.

Please note: This is a remote opportunity that occurs at your preferred location. Your group will be responsible for the purchasing and assembling of the hygiene care bags. We can provide you with suggestions of items based on needs and pricing. We can pick up the bags or you may drop them off at our St. Paul location (280/94).

These items will be provided to school social workers, nurses, food shelves and more to distribute with dignity to the students, individuals and families they serve.

Since 1965, Foster Grandparent volunteers have shared their wisdom and experience with children and youth to make impressions that have lasted a lifetime. They are role models, mentors and friends.

By partnering with teachers and students in under-resourced schools, the Kids In Need Foundation provides the support needed for teachers to teach and learners to learn. The fulfillment of our national programs occurs at our Teacher Resource Center in Roseville, MN. We rely heavily on help from volunteers like you, and would be honored if you would consider joining us to achieve our mission.

Volunteer dinner groups purchase, prepare, and serve a nutritious meal to 21 residents at our emergency shelter every night of the year. It’s a perfect opportunity for families, congregations, co-workers, or friends to join together for a fun and fulfilling evening! 

Volunteers can use our shelter kitchen to cook a meal, or cook at home and bring the meal ready to go! We have so many open dates and could use any support we can get.

New Day Thrift Store is looking for people to sort, price and put clothing out on the sales floor.  This person would separate out any stained or unsalable clothes to be donated to other organizations that take them for rags, etc.  Clothes would then be placed on hangers and tagged. Children under 14 are able to volunteer, but an adult needs to come with them to supervise them. Come join us! Our volunteers have fun while helping a great cause! Your help would really be appreciated!!!

POSITION TITLE: Fight For Air Climb Committee Member

WHAT IS FIGHT FOR AIR CLIMB EVENT: A unique fundraising event where teams and individuals from all fitness levels take to the stairs to support the American Lung Association.

POSITION SUMMARY: Works closely with staff and volunteer leaders to promote the Fight For Air Climb throughout the community, recruit new climb teams, engage new corporate partners, and provide input to enhance the event day experience.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

You can make an immediate difference for a senior or individual living with a disability by volunteering for our Safe at Home Program!

This program provides minor home safety or accessibility modifications (grab bars, handrails, and much more). Volunteer projects are small-scale and can be completed by two to four volunteers in one day.

Handy-person and light carpentry skills are preferred, but many tasks can be learned through training and experience with on-site installation.

Fundraising:

Art, Heart and Hoofbeats - Equine Rescue and Sanctuary is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that runs entirely on donations. We are always on the look out for help in procuring monetary donations and sponsorship, both private and corporate. We also often need individuals to collect donations of goods and services for special events (for example, gift cards and items for silent auctions). We have also received many wonderful donations from clubs, groups, and individuals who have chosen to hold a “AHH Benefit” Event. Some ideas for this would be fun shows, tack sales, rummage sales, bake sales, or informational booths at local feed or tack stores. If you are interested in holding this sort of fundraiser to help the horses and people served at AHH, please let us know!

 Farm Help:

At Art, Heart and Hoofbeats Equine Rescue and Sanctuary we welcome volunteers to the farm to help on a regular scheduled basis or with special projects. This often includes cleaning stalls, mending or building a fence, building goat toys general maintenance of the grounds. Volunteers with special skills (such as electricians or carpenters) are also needed!

Food Shelf Aide

Come help our neighbors with their food needs! We are looking for 4-6 volunteers per weekly shift, Monday through Thursday, 8:30am-12:30pm and 12:30pm-4:30pm to work with our food shelf staff. Volunteers must be 18 years old or older. We ask volunteers to commit to a 4-hour-a-week shift for a minimum of two months.

All volunteers must be pre-registered with a volunteer application https://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/ap?AP=335122860&OR=1 and be scheduled through Sally Newbury at snewbury@npimn.org. People of color and/or bilingual language talents are strongly encouraged to apply.

Youth who are 14, 15, 16 and 17 years old can volunteer with us with some of our public events and with our food shelf. We require prior parental written permission that applicant will receive after completing the volunteer application. The 14 and 15 year old youth can volunteer when accompanied by their parent or guardian. The 16 and 17 year old youth can volunteer by themselves with our Food Shelf.

Assignments

Volunteers will be assigned to packing boxes of dry food, bagging produce, receiving and stocking donations and purchased food deliveries. NorthPoint staff will have direct contact with customers (not volunteers) to register and receive food.

When you arrive for your shift, please use the back door of the Food Shelf to enter and wash your hands in the breakroom or bathroom. Please sign in to utilizing the kiosk in the hydration room to record your time in and please remember to sign out at the end of your shift too. Report to the Food Shelf staff for your assignment.

How to Dress and What to Bring

Please wear closed-toe shoes to protect your feet from boxes and pallets. No sandals please. Please dress modestly with shorts that come to the knee or long pants and short or long sleeves. We ask volunteers to come with their own cloth-mask on their face and you may swap it for a NorthPoint disposable mask once you arrive. There will be bottled drinking water on site but you are also encouraged to bring your own reusable water bottle. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the site.

The NorthPoint Health Food Shelf is located at 1835 Penn Avenue North in Minneapolis on the corner of Penn and Golden Valley Road. Please use on-street parking for your vehicle. We save the parking lot on the south side of the building for customers.

OPPORTUNITIES

River Valley Riders provides services from mid-April through early-November at our facility in Afton. Volunteer once per week for the full season or choose which of the 8-9 week sessions work for you (spring, summer, or fall). Volunteer shifts are 1-3 hours during your choice of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings.

The primary volunteer role is walking alongside the participant as they ride their horse during the lesson. “Sidewalkers” follow direction from PATH Intl. certified instructors to support the rider as they perform the lesson skill or activity while promoting their independence and are VITAL for rider success. Volunteers with horse experience may have the opportunity to be part of the team by leading the horse during the lesson.

Our carriage driving program offers volunteer opportunities to help get the horse ready for the lesson and assist the participant during their lesson.

There are many additional ways to donate your time and talent to help us achieve our mission including: photography, creative writing, fundraising, gardening, and more!

As a StyleXchange store volunteer, upholding the dignity and integrity of our clients is at the forefront of every interaction.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Welcome shoppers, answer questions, and assist, as necessary.

·        Follow customer service standards established by Valley Outreach to provide equitable, dignified, and respectful treatment for all shoppers.

·        Operate a register, using our simple tablet point of sale process. Follow cash handling and credit card processing procedures.

As a clothing sorting volunteer, you will process donated items and prepare them for the store floor. Providing an inclusive and welcoming experience for all shoppers is our goal! You'll be making a real difference in the lives of people in need by providing low-barrier access for everyone to receive high-quality clothing for free or at a low cost in our thrift store. 

Volunteer Duties and responsibilities.

·        Understand and abide by quality standards set by Valley Outreach to ensure positive client experience. Consider quality and seasonality, understand what "usable condition" means, and center the dignity of shoppers.

·        Work independently and use decision-making skills to effectively sort, select, and evaluate donated goods in line with our quality standards, using "Keep - Pass - Shred " sorting process.

·        Follow established processes for organizing, tagging, and properly adding items into inventory to prepare them for the store floor.

No experience necessary and fluency in Spanish or Karen languages is a plus!

Physical Demands:

Time Commitment: two times per Month

Time commitment varies depending on volunteer availability. A typical shift is 3 hours, once a week. If unable to commit to a regular weekly shift, volunteers can also opt to be placed on substitution list to be called whenever there is a volunteer absence.

Training and Support:

Intake volunteers will receive an orientation from the Client Support Services Manager prior to stating the position. New volunteers will shadow experienced Intake volunteers prior to working alone. All volunteers will receive as needed training applicable to their position.

Food Shelf Volunteer

Purpose: The Food Shelf volunteer is responsible for providing clients with great customer service while creating a positive and welcoming environment in the Food Shelf.

Description of Role:

The role of Food Shelf volunteer enhances our organization’s ability to destigmatize the food shelf shopping experience by providing great customer service to clients shopping in the food shelf. By demonstrating our organization’s values, volunteers will employ empathy and understanding as well as practicing non-judgement and inclusion to foster a welcoming environment. Volunteers in this position will receive initial training and ongoing support from food program staff and work alongside several fellow Food Shelf Volunteers.

Training and Support:

The Food Shelf volunteer will receive training from the Food Program Assistant or experienced volunteer prior to working the position alone. All volunteers will receive training applicable to their position as needed.

Leaders of Today and Tomorrow is seeking a talented, organized, and mission-driven project volunteer to help transform our current in-person board and committee orientation into a modern, engaging online orientation experience.

Leaders of Today and Tomorrow (LOTT) is currently recruiting a talented volunteer photographer who is passionate about empowering women leaders. 

LOTT’s mission is to ignite women to lead with confidence. We do this through a six-month fellowship that includes workshops, a mentor pairing, personal development plans, and a community-based project. All aspects of the fellowship are free to participants.

We are looking for a talented photographer who can attend occasional events and take high-quality photos that capture the energy, connection, and impact of our programs. These images will be used in our marketing materials, website, social media, and future publications.

The Owner Surrender Coordinator is responsible for working with local families who need to surrender their animal to Ruff Start Rescue. Whoever takes this role will need more than just a basic knowledge of animal behavior - they need to be able to read between the lines and feel comfortable asking thoughtful, sometimes probing questions to fully understand the pet and the situation. The goal is to ensure we’re bringing appropriate animals into the program - ones that we can realistically support and set up for success in their new forever home. The OS Coordinator works through the entire process of bringing an animal into the rescue. Beginning with collecting information from the surrenderer (images, vet records, etc.), networking the animal in the private RSR Animals Needing Fosters Page, and getting foster commitment. You also may be asked for help coordinating the transfer of the animal into the rescue as well. Once the animal is with their foster, work with an Intake Admin to add them to the website and notify vetting and intake of the new addition. There can be a lot of back and forth in the role so daily check-ins to your RSR email are required.

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours a week or 30-45 minutes daily (weekday)

Responsibilities:

Logging into email, facebook and RescueGroups daily

Review owner surrender applications and look for red flags

Ask thorough questions to better understand the animal and the situation 

Lining up fosters for the animals that are chosen to come into rescue

Sending owner surrender agreements

Work with Intake Admin to perform an intake on the animal by adding to the website and sending out an announcement email to intake, vetting and the FM involved

The Reservation Assistant works under and helps the Reservation Coordinator. They will work on getting the animal information uploaded into database(s), and sent to the vetting and intake team. They will go to the transport location to take lead and bring supplies for fosters if needed. They will also gather any paper records that come with each animal to make sure they get to the vetting team. 

Adoption Center Cat Caretakers help provide care for the cats staying at one of the Petsmart locations that Ruff Start partners with. Cat Caretakers feed the cats, clean their litter boxes, change their bedding, spot clean their kennels, and brush and play with the cats.  The number of cats at the location varies, depending on the number of kennels we have and how many are full.

Bilingual Learning Center (BLC) is a Spanish and English that offers fun programming outside of school. We are seeking volunteers for our before school program where you'd support games, arts, storytelling and other various engaging activities.

This is a great opportunity to practice your Spanish and gain experience with youth! Spanish is preferred but not required.

Our schedule is flexible! Let us know your availability.

We need support for our before school program any day(s) Monday - Friday at

Windom Community School from 7:30 - 10:00am 

After school volunteers are needed from 2:00 - 6:00pm as well!

Volunteer Role Needed We are seeking a volunteer CPA/accountant with nonprofit experience to support light monthly financial oversight and compliance readiness for approximately 12 months while MMC grows

Do you like to sew? Do you like talking about sewing and helping other people learn to sew? Do you want to do something concrete to support & build connection with African communities in the Twin Cities? Then you've gotta come hang out with us. Under One Roof Fiber Arts provides free sewing classes to African immigrants in the Twin Cities. All of our classes are volunteer-run, and we are always looking for more people who want to share their sewing skills while hanging out with a bunch of cool women. 

Okay but what does that actually mean?

Do you like to knit and/or crochet? (Are you some kind of magician who likes doing both?) Do you like showing other people how to do those things? Do you want to support and build connection with the African communities of the Twin Cities? Ooh do I have good news for you. 

Under One Roof Fiber Arts provides free sewing/knitting/etc classes to African immigrants in the Twin Cities. All of our classes are volunteer-run, and we are always looking for more people who want to share their skills while hanging out with a bunch of cool women. You do not need to be an expert--we're really just trying to build community by sharing skills and making things together.

Okay but what does that actually mean?

IMPORTANT! Right at this exact moment, we're only holding classes in St. Paul, but we're hoping to expand to satellite locations around the metro in 2026. So if you don't want to drive to St. Paul all the time but you do want to hang out and knit, send a message anyway and we can make some plans for the future.

Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors offers a variety of classes and activities for older adults in the Longfellow and Seward neighborhoods of Minneapolis. We are looking for volunteers interested in leading craft or art skill classes.  Beginning watercolor, rock painting, Alcohol ink,  card crafting or simple clay projects are all popular with our community. But we would love to hear your ideas! Projects need to be assessable to all skill levels and provide options for students  who struggle with dexterity.

Classes can be single-session, or take the form of weekly or monthly programs. You provide the skills and talent and Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors provides the event space and program materials.

Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors (LSHS) and Minnehaha Food Shelf (located in the Minnehaha United Methodist Church, 3701 E. 31st St) joined forces back in August of 2020 with concern for older adults in the community who were unable to pick up their food shelf items in person due to the COVID pandemic.

LSHS continues to provide this food shelf delivery service to older adults in the greater Longfellow neighborhoods, and we are looking for  volunteers who can assist with this program on at least one Tuesday a month.

Volunteers will be asked to work alongside LSHS and Minnehaha Food Shelf staff to choose and pack needed items to be delivered.  The number of clients varies,  but there are no more than 2 delivery stops. This opportunity can be physically demanding, and there is some heavy lifting involved. However, we work as a team to lighten the load.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one Tuesday morning a month for 1.5 -2.0 hours. 

RAGOM is looking for a Transport Coordinator to help organize and oversee the safe transport of dogs entering our care. This role ensures dogs move smoothly from surrendering owners to fosters with compassion and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
· Plan and coordinate transport logistics
· Communicate with surrendering owners, drivers, and fosters
· Problem-solve routing and timing challenges
· Ensure each transport is completed safely and on schedule

Who We’re Looking For:
Someone detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and comfortable with email/phone communication during the day. Strong problem-solving skills and comfort with maps and routing are a plus.

We are seeking a dedicated Behavior Services Lead to oversee our Behavior Services Team, which supports foster families and helps manage dogs with behavioral challenges. Reporting to the Executive Director, this volunteer leader provides direction, guidance, and training to team members while ensuring effective coverage through calendar management and shift coordination. The role serves as the primary point of contact for questions, escalations, and issue resolution, and plays a key part in fostering a responsive, efficient, and supportive environment. Responsibilities also include managing bite incidents, overseeing Behavior Modification Plans, and stepping in when team members are unavailable. Ideal candidates will have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, experience working with volunteers, and hands-on knowledge of dogs with behavioral issues. Good customer service skills are essential for assisting adopters, fosters, and surrendering owners with sensitivity and professionalism.

ComoConnects would love a volunteer to come help us with our monthly drum circle!  We meet at St. Timothy Lutheran church @ 1pm for a community drum circle and we would love a reliable  volunteer to come a little early to help set up, greet and tear down. This is an easy and fun opportunity for anyone who needs a fun volunteer experience!

Skilled Volunteer Service Needed: Brick Patio Repair

One of our PPL properties in Minneapolis is in need of a brick patio repair to help restore a safe, welcoming outdoor space for our residents. We’re seeking an individual or community organization with experience in leveling and laying brick, as well as the physical ability to lift, bend, and kneel as needed for this type of project.  The patio is 12x10 feet and not the entire area needs to be repaired, only a portion of it. 

In addition to skilled volunteer support, we are also hoping to partner with a group or organization that may be willing to donate or help offset the cost of necessary materials.

Are you a professional or semi-professional photographer, looking for ways to share your time and skills to better the lives of people in your community? Do you love capturing that perfect moment at events? Do you love dogs?

Look no further! We would love to add you to our roster of Photography Volunteers that we reach out to when big and small events are coming up to see if you are available and interested in helping out.

Please plan to use your own camera equipment for this role. We will give you a shot list before each event. It would be excellent if you can provide the images to us within the week following the event.

As an organization that serves deaf and hard-of-hearing clients, we frequently have meetings and events where we need the assistance of people certified in ASL.

If this is a skill you possess, we would love to be able to reach out to you to see if you are available and interested in interpreting one-on-one for client meetings, Check In Tables at events, and for volunteers who are deaf and want to help at our events and projects.

Twin Cities Pride's free gender affirming clothing closet is in need of some supplies. We have a lot of requests for underwear and since we don't accept used underwear, we often run out of our supply quickly. Please consider donating new underwear- boxers, boxer briefs, briefs (both masculine and feminine) of all sizes.
