We're seeking a talented individual or students with a class project to take on one of our marketing campaigns and develop a compelling graphic and visual appeal. This would include print, electronic and even video production. We'd especially like it if someone can create dynamic info graphics that tell our story!

All to help build awareness and raise funds for providing safety, shelter and sustainability for orphans around the world.

Everyone is invited to help clean up the Lake of the Isles several times this spring through fall. The first opportunity will be Earth Day! In partnership with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, there will be cleanup supplies and treats at our check-in table.

No registration is required, but if you can register here and follow Green Guardians that would help us stay in touch. 

Long pants and boots are helpful when working around the edge of the lake.

Storm water carries trash pollution and leaves which contributes to the green slime that forms on our lakes. Just keep the top of the drains clear when you can, it's easy to do several drains in an intersection near your home.

Pre/Post-Festival Opportunities Marketing (Pre-Fest): Use your social media savvy and help distribute printed materials to promote this exciting event.

Pre-Fest Set-Up and Decoration: Assist in transforming the festival grounds and Mead Hall on Thursday afternoon, evening, or Friday before 6 PM. We need creative individuals who can use tools, lift up to 50 lbs, and ensure the festival looks amazing.

Post-Fest Clean-Up: Help pack up on Sunday after 4:30 PM or Monday morning if needed. This role requires lifting, organizing, and storing equipment until next year’s event. Great Northern Viking Festival Opportunities – 3.5 Hour Shifts

Parking: Direct guests to parking spaces while ensuring safety and smooth traffic flow.

Gate/Check-In: Validate tickets and manage guest entry. Volunteers should be comfortable handling tablets.

Grounds Crew: Maintain a clean and welcoming festival environment by restocking outhouses, emptying trash cans, and assisting campers.

Merch Booth: Sell Viking merchandise, handle credit transactions, and engage with festival attendees. Sales experience preferred.

Kids Area Helper: Supervise kids' activities and engage with families to ensure a fun and safe environment.

Spear Throwing Helper: Guide participants in this exciting Viking activity while ensuring safety and assisting with setup and cleanup.

Demo Area Attendant: Support live Viking demos by helping set up and guiding guests through these immersive experiences.

Information Booth Contact: Provide festival information, handle lost and found, distribute maps, and answer attendee questions.

Floater Volunteer: Be flexible and ready to jump in wherever needed to help the festival run smoothly.

We have two new openings for Groups Assistant Volunteers! 

This is a recurring weekly volunteer shift where you will be scheduled for either Wednesday or Thursday mornings 8:45am- 11:45 am. We are asking for anyone interested to be able to commit to at least the next two months until May. Let us know if you're interested in volunteering for either or both days!

You will always be scheduled to work alongside group staff. They will ask for your help with any of the following tasks:

Help keep our exhibits looking their best by supporting the care, cleaning, and preparation of museum props used in our galleries, the Studio, and our Traveling Exhibits. Volunteers will assist with washing props (by hand and dishwasher), preparing exhibit materials, and cutting supplies for Studio activities. This role is based in the basement workshop props area and supports an ongoing cleaning cycle of more than 2,500 items, especially during travelling exhibit changeovers that occur three times each year. There is always something that needs care, so dedicated time and attention make a big impact.

Volunteers will follow a documented cleaning guide that includes prop introductions, sink tips, and washing techniques to ensure items are handled properly.

Schedule:
Recurring Weekly Shift/s

1–2 volunteers per shift, Wednesday–Sunday, anytime between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (2-hour minimum shift)

Requirements & Ideal Experience:

Must wear closed-toed shoes in the workshop

Comfortable with hands-on cleaning and prep tasks

Food service or dishwashing experience is helpful

Great opportunity for those interested in a future props or costumes internship

This role is perfect for detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy hands-on work and helping behind the scenes to keep exhibits running smoothly. We have made this role separate from the Play Guide role in mind of those of you who want to support the museum but prefer to stay off the floor.

Please reach out if you are interested as we are looking to get volunteers started on these tasks as soon as possible!

Play Guide volunteers rotate through a few different assignments throughout the museum during their shift. These assignments include activities like:  

Facilitating fun high energy areas like the Laser maze, Forces and Scramble, greeting visitors, and helping children take turns and play safely.   

Assisting in the Art Studio. Greet visitors and introduce the daily activity, help maintain supplies and workspaces, engage visitors in their artwork using museum learning guidelines, and assist facilitators in running special pop-up programs.  

Assist with prep work for the galleries and The Studio.  This could include cutting materials such as paper, fabric, cardboard or yarn down to specific sizes, sorting materials, prepping clay, etc.  

Play Guide Volunteers choose their shifts online for them to attend Wednesday-Sunday shifts. Each day typically has a morning shift, 10am-1pm and an afternoon shift, 1-4pm. Volunteers also have the opportunity to stack shifts on the same day if they wish to complete more hours for a course requirement in a shorter period or simply wish to extend their shifts. If Play Guide volunteers come as a pair, group of friends, or family, they can be stationed together- providing that there is no need for them to be elsewhere and they are productive together and not distracted.

FamilyMeans is looking for volunteers willing to provide in-home respite to families. In-home respite consists of going into caregivers’ homes weekly and providing nonmedical care to care receivers. This can consist of playing games, having conversations, doing other activities or just being there with the care receiver. Volunteers are asked to volunteer 3 hours a week. These times are flexible and can be done at whatever time works best for you and the family you are matched with. This can be done individually, as a family project, or as a small group.

By partnering with teachers and students in under-resourced schools, the Kids In Need Foundation provides the support needed for teachers to teach and learners to learn. The fulfillment of our national programs occurs at our Teacher Resource Center in Little Canada, MN. We rely heavily on help from volunteers like you, and would be honored if you would consider joining us to achieve our mission.

Donations: While donations are not required to pack at this session, we humbly request them. Each volunteer packs about $50 worth of food and FMSC receives no government support. We can only send meals as we have funding. Nearly everyone is able to contribute something, but we leave the amount up to you. Many groups and individuals make advance fundraising a fun part of their service project. As you're willing and able, you may donate on the day you volunteer (by cash, check or credit card), or online before or after you pack.

Wilder Child Development Center has a commercial kitchen where we prepare breakfast, lunch and snacks for our students onsite and Wilder's day-treatment program across the street. We receive a weekly food delivery at our center, and we are seeking support to receive and unload this. We are also looking for help with basic cleaning, inventory, and stocking tasks. This role is a very physical and hands-on one.

Wilder regularly tables at community events to raise visibility for Wilder. These events are crucial for outreach and establishing trust within the community. We are seeking volunteer support to help increase our capacity and ability to attend more events.

Tabling Ambassadors will volunteer on an as needed basis to attend community events representing Wilder. You’ll sign up for the events you are available for, attend a brief training, and support at the event. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about Wilder , especially Wilder Community Mental Health & Wellness, and share that knowledge with others. At Feed My Starving Children, our mission is to feed all of God's starving children around the world who are hungry in both body and in spirit. But we cannot do this without your help. Will you join us?

Looking for someone to apply their mixing board skills to support 4 Hybrid membership meetings per year in our Mendota Heights headquarters. We need a back up for the short term that will hopefully be able to make a longer term committment. Again, only 4 meetings per year plus training and set up time.  One meeting is 4 hours all others are 2 hours. The Swedish Genealogical Society of Minnesota is 400 members strong reaching from Switzerland and Norway to California.  A great chance to use your technical experience and skills for a good cause.  No genealogy knowledge required but we would love to help you find your ancestors!!!

A great chance to expand your network and gain valuable skills!  Join the board of an active engaging genealogy organization.  Partner with the President and other board members to drive the strength and growth of the Swedish Genealogical Society of Minnesota including operational and financial governance.  SGSM offers a wide range of experiences to its 400 members-member feedback is high! Commitment is to a 2-year term if nominated and elected. There are about 12-14 board meetings a year (typically during the workday) and 4 Saturday morning programs that we host for our members. Also participation in ad-hoc committees as needed.

Looking for strengths in finance, accounting, or driving engagement. Nonprofit board experience and an interest in genealogy are a plus.

A Neighbor to Neighbor Companion is a bridge to fuller, more active lives for older adults who need a little extra support to continue living at home, stay healthy and remain as independent as possible.

Due to the current pandemic, Neighbor to Neighbor Companion services are currently being offered exclusively virtually via phone and video chat. We will transition back to in person visits and reintroduce transportation support when we can do so safely, following state and federal guidelines

We are always looking for individuals who are willing to donate their time to the Boys & Girls Clubs. Individuals can assist with programming in our three priority areas: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship. Activities include homework help, assistance and mentorship during academic programming, recreation, athletics, college and career readiness, and art. We also welcome individuals who have a special skill or talent that they would like share with our Club members. 

All volunteers must pass a background check.

Typically, there is a minimum commitment of 2 hours a week or 8 hours a month.  

Program hours during regular school days take place from 2:00-9:00pm; most need for volunteers is between 2:00-7:00pm. Program hours during any day that school is closed (i.e. summer break, spring break, winter break, etc.) take place from 8:00am-5:30pm. All programming occurs Monday-Friday.

There are various Club sites throughout the Twin Cities, including 5 Clubs in Minneapolis, 3 Clubs in Saint Paul, and 2 Clubs in Richfield, in addition to our residential camp (Voyageur Environmental Center) in Mound, MN.

Friends of Crystal Parks is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works to make the City of Crystal an even better place to raise a family or grow a business.  Funds raised through Friends of Crystal Parks events improve the City of Crystal's parks; and is fun to be a part of.  Plus, more volunteers makes for better events - and better parks!  One of their annual contributions is to purchase trees to hand out at the city's annual Arbor Day Event on the first Wednesday in May.  Other donations to projects are also made.

Friends of Crystal Parks currently hosts various events each year; including a plant sale the Saturday prior to Memorial Day weekend.  Additional fundraising ideas are being sought.  The group also provides information on ways to support Crystal's parks at the annual Crystal Frolics Family Festival on the last Saturday of July.  The Friends of Crystal Parks Board meets monthly September through May at the Crystal Community Center - all are welcome!  To learn more about this group, please visit:  www.friendsofcrystalparks.org.

There is no doubt the world has changed since 2020, but something that has increased is volunteerism. Since COVID, FamilyWise no longer has the constant volunteer opportunities we used to. In response to having opportunities but not having the people to help, we want to start a FamilyWise Volunteer on-call directory. Essentially, when we have an opportunity, whether it be something one person can do for an hour or a group can do for a day, I will send it out to the directory and see if anyone is available. Our mission at Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors is to empower seniors to live healthy, independent, and socially engaged lives. Reliable transportation for medical appointments and grocery shopping is vital to making this possible.

As a Volunteer Driver, you will help seniors by providing rides to medical appointments and assisting with grocery pickup and delivery. Most trips are within 15miles.

If you're 19 or older, have a good driving record, and own a safe, well-maintained vehicle, we encourage you to join us in supporting our local seniors. A background check and orientation will be provided for all new volunteers.

Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors offers a variety of classes and activities for older adults in the Longfellow and Seward neighborhoods of Minneapolis. We are looking for skilled volunteers interested in leading a fitness, or strength & balance class geared towards seniors! In the past, programs such as tai chi, yoga, chair yoga, and self-defense have been popular with our clients.

We are looking for volunteers to join us at the State Fair for a unique volunteer opportunity!

Our organization is across the street from the State Fair grounds and on the first day of the fair (Thursday August 27, 2026) we accompany our residents from Lyngblomsten Care Center to the fair for a few hours.

Here is some important things to know:

We collect gently used and new shoes through our Shoe Away Hunger program and sell them for a suggested donation on our mobile shoe bus and trailer and at various static sites.

We sort these shoes into three categories (great, good, and grind) at our warehouse in Plymouth on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12 to 3:00 p.m. We would love for you or your group to join us in sorting shoes! Friends and groups love to do this. We help a lot of people, laugh, and have a lot of fun doing this very important job!

We serve a week's worth of groceries to those facing hunger in our community. Volunteers help set up the site for the day's distribution. Children are welcome with adult supervision. 

Hennepin Healthcare is hosting a Teddy Bear Clinic on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 9am – 1pm as part of Doors Open Minneapolis. This is ideal for children who are between 2 – 8 years old. Since children learn and express themselves through play, the aim is to educate and entertain them at a series of 12+ interactive stations to help normalize a medical experience. Children bring their Teddy Bears (or any stuffed animal) to the event and follow the “prescription” checklist (for their teddy to get stitches, x-rays, a bandage, hearing test, dentist visit and more). They also have the opportunity to tour of an ambulance and a fire truck. Free parking available in the Clinic and Specialty Center’s underground garage (entrance is at 821 Park Ave, Minneapolis). Thanks for joining us at Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge! Great River Greening is embarking upon a long-term partnership with the refuge to support their conservation efforts and this event marks our first partnership event together.

Containing over 11,500 acres, Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge is located at the headwaters of the Minnesota River and provides vital habitat for a variety of species, especially ground-nesting waterfowl. 

Volunteers will remove invasive species and haul recently downed wood to open up and support vital outcrop habitat, home to the rare ball cactus, one of three native cacti to the state of MN. Volunteers will also spread native seed once areas have been opened.

 Please note registrants will receive updates on any changes and final event details as the date approaches.

This event is open to all, and any necessary training will be provided.

Day of: Please arrive promptly, allowing time for parking and short walk. Our worksite areas will be adjacent to the Granite Outcrop trail head parking lot. Terrain will be a mix of flat hiking trails and occasional off-trail terrain with a slight rise in elevation.

Safety: Ensuring safety is our highest priority. It is important that event participants wear close-toed shoes and long sleeves to protect against the elements. We recommend dressing for the weather; layers are key.

Partner with the house that love built to provide free haircuts to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House! We have families from across the globe that come, often unexpectedly, to the Twin Cities to receive treatment for their critically ill child(ren). With an extended stay while their child is in the hospital, a haircut for themselves or their other child(ren) is not always at the top of their priority list. As a volunteer, you will provide haircuts for RMH parents and children on a monthly basis or as your schedule allows.

Driver volunteers at our Oak Street location are essential for our weekly supply transfers. Drivers use the RMH passenger van to transport meals and needed supplies from the Oak Street location to our three hospital sites, or to pick up donations. Key responsibilities for Drivers:

Drivers typically commit to a weekly or bi-weekly shift, but we are also in need of replacement drivers who can cover driver shifts as needed. Meal delivery trips take place on weekdays from 2pm-4pm. Donation trips will be scheduled on an as needed basis and time is flexible. We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of one full semester, or 50 hours.

An overview of your position will be provided during your orientation and House tour. Directions and tips as to how to drive the van will be provided at the start of your first shift. The Pet Therapy Volunteer serves as an additional support to patients, families and caregivers by making friendly visits with his/ her certified therapy animal. Visits may occur in the patient’s home or in a professional care setting (subject to the rules of the facility). Both the Volunteer and the certified therapy animal provide comfort, companionship and a welcome distraction from the illness.

The majority of animals serving in this capacity will be a dog. The dog must be certified/ registered by an American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized therapy dog organization (http://www.akc.org/events/title-recognition-program/therapy/organizations/). Other certified/ registered therapy animals will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. All required vaccinations must be up to date and copies of the vaccinations/ medical evaluation must be maintained in the Volunteer’s Personnel File; required vaccines include Rabies and Distemper.
