Volunteer: Friday Day Out Fun Crew VolunteerDo you like to build puzzles, sing and dance, play games, hang out with other people and do other fun activities? If so FamilyMeans Day Out Program might be a fit for you. Day Out is a program for caregivers to drop off their care receivers. Caregivers get a well-deserved break while care receivers get to participate in fun activities. This program happens on Fridays from 9:30 am to 1 pm. Volunteers help guide participants, which we call friends, through these activities in a 1:1 ratio. Volunteers can’t and therefore aren’t expected to help with the personal care of clients. While Day Out occurs every Friday volunteers can sign up month by month for Fridays that work for them. Some volunteers like to come as often as possible, and others sign up once a month or less. Volunteers love this program because there is a real sense of community with the volunteers and the friends. They also enjoy helping friends through these activities and getting to know them. They also really enjoy the themes we have each day and some volunteers really like dressing up for those themes. Typical Day Out Schedule 9:30-9:45- Volunteer meeting 9:45 to 10- Friends start filtering in 10:00-10:15- Time for chatting 10:15-10:30- Singing 10:30-11:00- Introduction to theme and large group activities like Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, etc. 11:00-12:00- Individual activities like puzzles, games, or just having a conversation 12:00 to 12:30- Lunch- Bring your own 12:30 to 1:00- more large group games Nonprofit: FamilyMeans Do you like to build puzzles, sing and dance, play games, hang out with other people and do other fun activities? Volunteer: Forest Lake Area In-Home Respite VolunteerFamilyMeans is looking for volunteers willing to provide in-home respite to families in the Forest Lake area. In-home respite consists of going into caregivers’ homes weekly and providing nonmedical care to care receivers. This can consist of playing games, having conversations, doing other activities or just being there with the care receiver. Volunteers are asked to volunteer 3 hours a week. These times are flexible and can be done at whatever time works best for you and the family you are matched with. This can be done individually, as a family project, or as a small group. Is this opportunity right for me… Current FamilyMeans in-home respite differ greatly in their personalities and why they chose this option. Here are some of the reasons why volunteers chose this option and continue volunteering. o They appreciated flexible hours. There is no set time so volunteers can volunteer at times that fit their schedule. o Some volunteers enjoy being one on one with people rather than being in a group setting. o Some volunteers really like the social aspect of this opportunity. Since we carefully match volunteers and clients based on personalities and interests, to them it feels like spending 3 hours with a friend. o Some volunteers like the gratification that comes with this opportunity. Volunteers get to see how the work they do benefits the caregiver. Nonprofit: FamilyMeans FamilyMeans is looking for volunteers willing to provide in-home respite to families in the Forest Lake area. Rock from the Heart is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help staff a concession stand during Twins games and concerts at Target Field! Details: Volunteers receive a meal voucher and discounted parking for each shift. Online training and orientation must be completed before your first shift. Required attire: Black pants, white or black t-shirt, and non-slip tennis shoes/sneakers (no blue jeans, leggings, or sweatpants). Age requirement: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old for most stands, as Minnesota law requires anyone pouring, selling, or serving beer to be 18+. A few locations allow volunteers who are 16 years or older. Important Notes: Please check our opportunities for specific game dates the RFTH team is scheduled to work. When you sign up for a shift, it’s very important that you show up as scheduled — Rock from the Heart depends on each volunteer to meet staffing commitments. Check-in time is 1 hour before gates open. Rock from the Heart volunteers typically work weekend games and have a set list of dates available each season. All volunteers receive a Rock from the Heart t-shirt and baseball cap — the cap must be worn during your shift and is yours to keep!
