Our minimum age requirement is 5 years old when accompanied by an adult. We do not have a minimum group size, so you may come alone or bring a group. If you are completing community/school/church/court related community service, please ask for a Volunteer Service Hours form immediately following your packing session.

Donations: While donations are not required to pack at this session, we humbly request them. Each volunteer packs about $50 worth of food and FMSC receives no government support. We can only send meals as we have funding. Nearly everyone is able to contribute something, but we leave the amount up to you. Many groups and individuals make advance fundraising a fun part of their service project. As you're willing and able, you may donate on the day you volunteer (by cash, check or credit card), or online before or after you pack.

Volunteer: Morning opportunity to deliver meals to seniors in St. Paul on a weekly or on-call basis!

Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver noon meals to older adults and people with limited mobility in the Saint Paul area. CAPI has the first and only Asian-specific food shelf in the state. Since 1982, CAPI’s food shelf has been supporting the cultural and nutritional needs of approximately 2,000 individuals each month with more than 450,000 pounds of food each year. The food shelf continues to serve immigrants, refugees, and individuals of all backgrounds.

We are looking to build our community of volunteers to improve the sustainability of our food shelf to better serve community members who are food insecure and utilize our services. Volunteers are crucial in supporting our community members to achieve our mission of "guiding refugees and immigrants toward self-determination and social equality."


As a food shelf volunteer, you will be involved in multiple aspects of operating CAPI’s food shelf.  

Tasks include:

Organizing shelves and fridges Sorting supplies and goods Client shopper: assist clients in shopping/bagging and selecting their food items. Maintain basic workplace hygiene and safety protocol Bagging bulk rice and produce into smaller quantities Other tasks as needed

Volunteer: Start a Meals on Wheels Workplace Delivery team!

It only takes a lunch hour to deliver meals to eight to 10 people in need. How’s that for a power lunch? Companies of all sizes across the Twin Cities have discovered Meals on Wheels as the perfect volunteer opportunity for their employees.

Why does it work?

• Volunteers deliver meals once a month, once a week, or on a custom schedule depending on the team size,

• Meals are delivered during the employees’ lunch hour with a co-worker or individually.

• Typically, no one employee is out of the office for more than 1 hour a month.

WORKPLACE DELIVERY TEAMS: HOW DO THEY WORK?

What does a Workplace Delivery Team look like? A team consists of two or more individuals who agree to take turns delivering meals to seniors and people with disabilities. Volunteers can deliver in teams of two and may choose to do so once a month, or more often if it works for them. Teams can be easily scaled up to accommodate however many volunteers are interested.

How long does it take? The delivery takes about an hour. There are over 30 Meals on Wheels sites metro-wide, so the program site won’t be far away.

Who manages the process? Each Workplace Delivery Team picks one person to be the team leader. If needed, the position may be rotated within the group. This position may be filled with a community affairs employee or a volunteer.

What are the team leader’s responsibilities? The leader is responsible for maintaining a volunteer schedule and acts as the liaison between the company and the Meals on Wheels site. 

What are the benefits? Volunteers will help eight to 10 individuals in need of nutritious meals and a human connection. Just knowing you’ve made a difference in someone’s life can be a tremendous reward. It’s a wonderful way to feel coming back from your lunch break!

WORKPLACE DELIVERY TEAMS: HOW DO THEY WORK?

What does a Workplace Delivery Team look like? A team consists of two or more individuals who agree to take turns delivering meals to seniors and people with disabilities. Volunteers can deliver in teams of two and may choose to do so once a month, or more often if it works for them. Teams can be easily scaled up to accommodate however many volunteers are interested.

How long does it take? The delivery takes about an hour. There are over 30 Meals on Wheels sites metro-wide, so the program site won’t be far away.

Who manages the process? Each Workplace Delivery Team picks one person to be the team leader. If needed, the position may be rotated within the group. This position may be filled with a community affairs employee or a volunteer.

What are the team leader’s responsibilities? The leader is responsible for maintaining a volunteer schedule and acts as the liaison between the company and the Meals on Wheels site. 

What are the benefits? Volunteers will help eight to 10 individuals in need of nutritious meals and a human connection. Just knowing you’ve made a difference in someone’s life can be a tremendous reward. It’s a wonderful way to feel coming back from your lunch break!

Volunteer: Food Shelf Deliveries to Older Adults

Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors (LSHS) and Minnehaha Food Shelf (located in the Minnehaha United Methodist Church, 3701 E. 31st St) joined forces back in August of 2020 with concern for older adults in the community who were unable to pick up their food shelf items in person due to the COVID pandemic.

LSHS continues to provide this food shelf delivery service to older adults in the greater Longfellow neighborhoods, and we are looking for  volunteers who can assist with this program on at least one Tuesday a month.

Volunteers will be asked to work alongside LSHS and Minnehaha Food Shelf staff to choose and pack needed items to be delivered.  The number of clients varies,  but there are no more than 2 delivery stops. This opportunity can be physically demanding, and there is some heavy lifting involved. However, we work as a team to lighten the load.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one Tuesday morning a month for 1.5 -2.0 hours.

We know that food plays a large role in nurturing and sustaining us in mind, body, and spirit. We take great pride in nourishing our guests during their stay, and volunteers are needed to help serve our full-meal services and clean up so that guests can experience gracious hospitality and personal rest during their time with us. Weekends are a priority for us with meals served at 8am, 12pm, and 6pm. Shifts of 2-3 hours around these meals times are preferred. Training and support are always available.

Many groups and individuals make advance fundraising a fun part of their service project. As you're willing and able, you may donate on the day you volunteer (by cash, check or credit card), or online before or after you pack.

Assist in preparing a pre-planned meal and packaging it for distribution, under the direction of our site coordinator.

Serving & Cleanup
Help finish any meal prep, distribute meals, greet guests, wash dishes, and clean up during and after service.

MATTER serves communities within the Twin Cities and across the world. The Volunteer Kit is part of MATTER's Healthy Eating Initiative, bringing healthy snacks to kids and families in need. Our Volunteer Kits offer an experience for individuals or groups to sponsor a box and assemble individual snack packs from anywhere to distribute in their local communities.

So how can you help? We need volunteers to help us assemble the raw contents of a Volunteer Kit at our warehouse in St. Louis Park, MN. To see a MATTER Volunteer Kit in action, please take a minute to watch this video

Shifts: 
-Please come to the MATTER office located at 7005 Oxford Street, St. Louis Park. Look for the orange awning to enter the building. Street parking is available along Oxford Street. 
-Shifts are in 2-hour increments, but you are not required to stay the full 2 hours. Only pack to your comfort level.
-Please wear comfortable clothing. Our volunteer space is in a warehouse so the temperature will vary by season. 
-Closed toe shoes are required in the warehouse.
-Minors need to be of the age that they can pack at a station by themselves. Station tables are about 2 1/2 feet high. 12 yrs old and up is recommended.

Safety:
-You will be asked to wash your hands upon arrival before beginning any volunteer tasks. 
-You will be packing in a spacious warehouse and tables are well spaced. 
-Facial coverings are optional.
-Hand sanitizer available.
-Please stay home if you are feeling ill (cough/fever/chills), or if you have been exposed to someone who is or has been ill (whether or not they have been diagnosed with COVID-19). We encourage you to reschedule for another time when you are healthy!

Mill City Farmers Market is a Zero Waste farmers market, meaning everything that is served to you at the market—even the straws, cups and forks that look like plastic—are made from compostable materials. By composting sampling supplies, to-go containers and other prepared food and beverage serve ware, our weekly event diverts 93-98% of its waste from the landfill. This program allows MCFM to minimize our carbon footprint and strengthen our commitment to sustainability. At an industrial composting facility, compostables (food scraps, paper plates, bowls, and cups, and compostables) are converted into nutrient-rich soil, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. This program is possible thanks to help of volunteers!

Manage Zero Waste stations on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m (timing is flexible!) Duties include: Educating customers about compostable products, record keeping, monitoring waste
stations, and emptying bins throughout the day No experience necessary!PPP available for volunteers, including: face masks, face shields, gloves, hand sanitizer, and hand washing and aprons.

Volunteer Requirements
• Ability to work with organic waste, recyclables, and trash (we have gloves!)
• Good communication skills
• Ability to be on your feet for 3 hours in all kinds of MN weather
• Ability to lift 20lbs 1-2 times per shift

Training

Volunteer: RMH Weekly Meal Server

At our 5 Minnesota locations, we keep families close to the care they need.

Each day, we provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner options for RMH families at all five of our locations. At RMH-Oak Street, meal server volunteers support this effort by serving meals to families. Our meal team cares for all meal planning and preparations, and volunteers serve the meal to families as they come through for lunch or dinner (no cooking skills required!). Volunteers may also be asked to assist with cleaning up after the meal and/or packaging leftovers into individual grab-and-go meals. A typical shift could involve:

Assisting with final set up preparations before serving (placing food in warmers, setting out necessary utensils, etc.) Welcoming and serving families meals as they come through the serving line for lunch or dinner Ensuring food safety practices are met, including hand washing and using gloves Understanding menu items and ingredient lists Packing leftovers into individual grab-and-go containers Cleaning up the serving area after mealtime is over If a Cooks for Kids meal group is signed up to sponsor the meal, the meal server may be asked to assist with other aspects of the meal program Typical Hours and Commitment

Meal servers commit to one weekly or bi-weekly shift for lunch or dinner. We serve meals seven days a week, 365 days a year. Typical shifts are 11am-2pm for lunches and 4pm-7pm for dinners. We ask for a minimum commitment of one full semester or 50 hours.

Each day, we provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner options for RMH families at all five of our locations. At RMH-Oak Street, meal server volunteers support this effort by serving meals to families. Our meal team cares for all meal planning and preparations, and volunteers serve the meal to families as they come through for lunch or dinner (no cooking skills required!). Volunteers may also be asked to assist with cleaning up after the meal and/or packaging leftovers into individual grab-and-go meals. A typical shift could involve:

Assisting with final set up preparations before serving (placing food in warmers, setting out necessary utensils, etc.) Welcoming and serving families meals as they come through the serving line for lunch or dinner Ensuring food safety practices are met, including hand washing and using gloves Understanding menu items and ingredient lists Packing leftovers into individual grab-and-go containers Cleaning up the serving area after mealtime is over If a Cooks for Kids meal group is signed up to sponsor the meal, the meal server may be asked to assist with other aspects of the meal program Typical Hours and Commitment

Meal servers commit to one weekly or bi-weekly shift for lunch or dinner. We serve meals seven days a week, 365 days a year. Typical shifts are 11am-2pm for lunches and 4pm-7pm for dinners. We ask for a minimum commitment of one full semester or 50 hours.

Please note that the minimum age for a Box-Making Volunteer Shift is 12, and the minimum age for a Box-Packing shift is 16.

With the support of people like you, Open Arms brings comfort, nutrition, and support to our fellow community members who are living with life-threatening illnesses. We deliver homemade food to over 1,200 clients every week across the Twin Cities, using healthy ingredients, free of charge. 

We are now shipping food to clients across greater Minnesota who would otherwise be outside of our delivery or pick-up range! You can help us assemble, label, and add liners to shipping boxes used to ship food to clients and/or help us pack the food items into the boxes. 

Please note that the minimum age for a Box-Making Volunteer Shift is 12, and the minimum age for a Box-Packing shift is 16.

Helper: Assist with various activities at STAR House, including preparing activities and snacks, readying bedrooms for new children, greeting families, helping clean up, refilling supplies, washing laundry, and providing support for walking field trips.
