Volunteers who visit with patients offer companionship, emotional support and aid in decreasing isolation. Furthermore, respite volunteers provide families/caregivers with a much-needed break for various reasons, like running errands, getting groceries and going to appointments. Work Environment

Meetings are virtual. Board members are invited to attend in-person events.

Time Commitment

AAOP’s board of directors is a working board and meets on a monthly basis. A board member can expect to spend approximately 5-8 hours a month (including regularly scheduled board meetings) on action items, committee meetings, trainings or other tasks assigned by the board.

Goal of Position 

Volunteer Prep Cooks assist the Shelter Kitchen Specialist prep food to serve to our emergency shelter guests. The shelter provides a safe and dignified space for 22 women and 44 men every night. We provide housing advocacy, healthcare services, toiletry and basic clothing supplies, showers, lockers, and three meals a day. Our goal is to help our shelter guests move into safe, affordable, and stable housing as soon as possible.

Wash and chop ingredients according to recipe.  Wash dishes.  Contribute new recipe ideas to the menu.  Honed kitchen skills are not necessary, there are a variety of tasks at different skill levels to be completed. 

 

Timeframe

Tuesday through Saturday with a morning shift 9 am – 11 pm and an afternoon shift 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm   Shifts are posted in morning and afternoon slots. When there is not a volunteer group serving lunch, volunteers are invited to stay and serve lunch to guests.   Volunteers are required to commit 2 shifts a month. 

 

Qualifications

AAOP is a non-partisan organization led by and for young Asian Minnesotans in the Twin Cities. Through our grassroots organizing efforts and programming, we aim to develop young Asian community leaders to resist oppression and co-create a more just future for their families, schools, communities, and cities. AAOP has approximately six full-time employees and one part-time employee. The HR duties are managed by the Executive Director.

Project Scope

The selected bidder will be responsible for providing HR services through an equity and justice lens to the management team and board members. The scope of services to be provided will include, but not limited to:

HR Audit and Compliance

Conduct a one-time HR audit and make recommendations using an equity lens to improve and strengthen HR operations, including legal compliance of practices and policies.

Review and provide recommendations to the employee recruiting, interviewing, reference and background check, hiring and onboarding process.

Assess job descriptions, pay-scale and benefits and assure competitiveness and comparison to similar nonprofit organizations.

Present findings to management team and board members; update employee handbook and assist the management team with rolling out changes to employees.

Employee Relations

Develop and implement processes for regular employee surveys and feedback, and exit interviews.

Provide consultation and training to the management team on disciplinary process, conflict management, performance documentation, employee motivation, recognition and retention and coaching skills.

Make recommendations for long-term HR considerations, such as ongoing training for employees and management team, hiring and onboarding an employee responsible for HR duties and succession planning.

The volunteer order fulfillment opportunity would assist staff by packaging finished meal products for distribution and delivery. This position will stage orders, portion beverages per order and assemble client "meals to order" consistent with regulations and established policies, procedures and best practices. The Packer may assist in other Senior Dining departments as directed by a supervisor.
Volunteers would be participating in the following:
Check for appearance and quality of goods and food items. Assemble goods and food items in preparation of fulfilling client orders. Fill client orders, with frozen meals, snacks, fresh good items into individual delivery bags. Assemble delivery bags by route, and store in designated areas. Seek clarification from supervisor if there is a question regarding fulfillment of client orders correctly

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Able to work independently, multi task, and follow directions and be attentive to details; Must be a detail oriented.

This is a wonderful opportunity for families with kids- we have the kids assemble the Dream Kits and then they're put in charge in carrying the Dream Kits into the families' homes. Families' are given the option of having us set up the beds. This is a great way for volunteers to interact with parents and children! 

Accessibility: Volunteers who cannot/don't want to lift 50+ pounds are invited to carry Dream Kits rather than mattresses/bedframes. Volunteers must have their own vehicle to participate in deliveries, but you will not need to put any beds or supplies in your car. We prioritize the safety of the families that we serve and require a face mask when we go into families' homes.

With each new bed, My Very Own Bed delivers a Dream Kit (new twin-sized sheets, blanket, pillow, mattress pad, and stuffed animal) to each child. We rely on volunteers to host Dream Kit Donation Drives in their workplaces, neighborhoods, places of worship, or school communities in order to meet this important need.

Do you have the gift of hospitality to share with others? Then this is the area for you!

 Join the Party Warriors who work alongside WBCA staff the day of large special events to prepare the hospitality space and light refreshments offered to guests. These special events include gallery exhibition opening receptions. Volunteers are needed before, during and after events. Duties vary dependent on shift, usually 1-4 hours. Hospitality volunteer opportunities are also available throughout the year during smaller events at WBCA, such as lectures, artist talks, etc. Water and coffee are offered to guests at these smaller events. Time commitment: 1 hour.
