Our mission: Transforming the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for success in college and beyond.

We pair two mentors with each student beginning sophomore year.  100% of our students will go onto a four-year college.  Students will be served through mentoring, academic enrichment, and attendance to best in class summer programs.  Sessions are held in downtown Minneapolis on most Saturdays during the school year from October to May.

 The organization is looking for an additional member for its executive committee in the area of Senior Programming. Details on the role are as follows:.

Designs, organizes and facilitates the Junior Program mentoring sessions for a dozen of students and their volunteers. Needs to have Saturdays from 12-2 off during the school year.

Collaborates with the Co-Directors of Test Prep and Writing & Critical Thinking (W&CT) to coordinate curriculum.

Attends monthly executive committee meetings.

Works with Summer Programming team to help mentors and mentees with the summer program application process.

PURPOSE:
A large contributor to homelessness is the lack of healthy connections with others.
Being
a Resident Mentor Volunteer is an opportunity to connect with program residents,
tangibly showing them that they are loved by Jesus and his people. As a part of this
mentor program, you can build that connection and help the program resident develop
a new skill. Examples of activities are woodworking, cooking, mending and horticulture.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide all supplies necessary for activities. Work with program staff if there is
additional funding needed.
• Prepare an indoor activity for the program residents.
• Lead that activity, or activities, for the program residents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• A ‘listen first, speak second’ mentality
• Reliable transportation to meeting locations
• Ability to meet consistently with the resident

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT:
• This role is a mix of sitting and standing in a homeless shelter setting.

TRAINING:
• Meeting and tour with Program Manager
• Onboarding orientation training required

COMMITTMENT:
1 year of consistent sessions 

TYPE:

PURPOSE:
For our ACTS Training Program alumni, the first six months of living on their own after
exiting the program are often the hardest. This is largely due to a lack of connection to a
community. The volunteer group/community offers help to a program resident before and
after graduation. Being a Resident Mentor Community Volunteer is an opportunity to show
program alumni they are loved by Jesus and his people.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Meet with individuals for 6 months before the resident’s graduation
• Provide ‘welcome home baskets’ with initial essentials for the resident’s new
home once they graduate (e.g.: cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, basic kitchen
utensils, etc.)
• Continue to be involved in the life of your program alum for six months after
their completion of the program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• A ‘listen first, speak second’ mentality
• Reliable transportation to meeting locations
• Ability to meet consistently with the program resident

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT:

PURPOSE:

community and relationships through events on Saturday or Sunday for ACTS Training
Program residents.

additional funding needed.
• Prepare an indoor activity for the program residents.
• Lead that activity, or activities, for the program residents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to meet consistently with the residents on a scheduled basis in
partnership with program staff

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT:
• This role is a mix of sitting and standing in a homeless shelter setting.

COMMITTMENT:
1 year of consistent sessions (either on Saturdays 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. or Sundays 12 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.)

TYPE:

PURPOSE:
The Volunteer Driver will transport program residents participating in adult education to
and from their program sites and the Education Center. Drivers will be using mini-buses
and 15-passenger vans provided by Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide transportation to and from program sites
• Develop relationships with residents

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to drive 15-passenger vans or minibuses in an urban setting
• A clear background check
• While Volunteer Drivers do not have to be Christians, they need to respect Union
Gospel Mission Twin Cities’ statement of faith

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Do you play an instrument or enjoy singing? Are you interested in spending time with hospice patients? If so, we'd love to have you join our amazing volunteer team at Hospice of the Midwest!

Music has the power to ease pain and anxiety and can improve mood and quality of life. Come share your musical talents and provide joy and comfort to our patients.

Volunteers are needed in multiple locations throughout the twin cities metro. Background screening, drug test, and TB test are required. Training and ongoing support is provided to all volunteers.

We use the Slack app to connect the store cat team with each other and share updates on visits. So having a mobile phone or computer that can access the internet is important. Our community choir is looking for volunteer singers to join our mission in providing free performances to individuals in senior living facilities, hospices and rehab hospitals.  We sing a wide variety of SATB choral music.  Members include those who have sung in a high school, church choir or community choir.  Singers should be able to read music but need not be an 'expert'.  Our mission is to bring music to those who have limited access and to have fun.  All ages are welcome.  Must be able to provide own transportation to rehearsals and performances.

We practice on the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 7PM at the Stonecrest Senior Living facility in Woodbury.  Contact Therese Stecher, Director for more information.

Do you like driving and going for rides just to check out the view? So do the individuals with developmental disabilities at one of our homes in Plymouth! As a volunteer, you would use our accessible van, (we will train you!) and take the individuals out and about for a "joy ride". 2 hours once or twice a month would be ideal.

Program volunteers help our teaching artists as they work with children and their families. Volunteers assisting with classes have the opportunity to work one-on-one with children and they give teachers the flexibility to focus on overall presentation of projects or classes that include dance, music, visual arts and performing arts. To be a program volunteer you must be at least 18 years old.

We look for people who have worked with children who can be flexible, patient and have a gentle, nurturing style of interacting with people. A background in the arts would be helpful but is not required.

Training is required. Breanna’s Gift teaching artists work with each volunteer before and during the classes so they are familiar with the projects being taught. This volunteer training is continuous as volunteers work with different artist/teachers from all art disciplines. A background check is required and training includes information about working with children and their families with regard to special needs and confidentiality.

Volunteer Illustrators bring the students' stories to life by creating a cover design and character illustration for their original book. The Court Advocate provides accompaniment and emotional support for clients at civil and criminal court hearings for Order for Protections (OFP), Harassment Restraining Orders (HRO), and criminal court proceedings resulting from domestic violence (completion of online course training required). Court hearings take place at Scott and Carver County Government centers. NOTE: You do not need a legal background for this role – this is an emotional support role.

Refugees and others who have a special status arrive in the United States legally after being forced to flee violence and persecution. Once they arrive in Minnesota, LSS Refugee Services works to secure safe and affordable housing for them, offers employment services and empowers them to achieve self-sufficiency and agency. Mentors act as friends and neighbors to newly arrived refugees and support them as they navigate the challenges of resettlement. 

Goal of Position:

To be a guide and friend for a refugee or refugee couple in their challenging first months in the United States. Each paring will involve setting 2-3 goals/focuses for the mentorship.

Sample Activities:

Please Note:

A Case Worker works with each refugee for at least their first 90 days in the US.  These first needs are called the “core services,” including housing, furniture, basic household items, medical care, social security, employment authorization documentation, school enrollment. Mentors are not responsible for these services.

Time Commitment:

Mentors make a commitment to meet at least once a week for three months. This has the potential for extension, if all parties are interested in continuing.

Scheduling:

At the discretion of the volunteer and availability of the refugee.

Worksite:

Varies, but will most likely be at the refugee’s home and in the community.

Qualifications:

Cross-cultural sensitivity, flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor.  Ability to work with people with basic English proficiency. Interest in helping refugees with resettlement needs.  An application, interview, and background check are required. Training and supervision are provided.

Like to drive and help people? This is the volunteer opportunity for you! Flexibility is key – drivewhenever it works for you. There is no set schedule –decide when and where you want to drive. Drivers use their personal vehicles to transport area residents to their requested destinations. You can view available rides and accept the ones you want using our web-based transportation management program. Drivers can be reimbursed for mileage at the current non-profit rate or take a tax deduction for that amount. We prefer for drivers to live in or near our service areas of:

Assist with transportation needs around the Twin Cities metro. We have situations where a foster is unable to get their foster dog/cat to an appointment and need a team of volunteers willing to transport the foster to/from the appointment. Our goal is to build a list of volunteers willing to help in these situations, we send out the request and drivers available or closest to the foster respond back that they can help. The driver and foster are connected via email/text to work specific details of pick-up/drop-off. Most appointments will be to Vet locations in the Twin Cities metro, Forest Lake, Wyoming or Buffalo.

Time commitment for this role varies depending on the need, but on average each transport could be 2-3 hours.

Flexibility is essential and your own transportation is required. Gas expenses are not covered by the rescue.

The Music For Memories non-profit is looking for piano accompanists/choir leaders to help us expand the number of senior choirs within senior living facilities in the Twin Cities/Western Wisconsin area.  

Use your musical skills to invest in your communities seniors!  Belonging to a choir has proven to be extremely successful in combating isolation and loneliness and fostering a sense purpose and productivity.

We are looking for volunteers to teach a one-hour online class to beginning or intermediate English Learners. The curriculum is provided to you.  The classes are scheduled between 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Monday - Friday evenings.  We also may schedule a weekend class. 

You will work with a teacher to reinforce the curriculum that students are learning in their other classes.  You usually have between 2-8 students attending a Zoom conference. Training in teaching strategies and Zoom presentations are offered if needed.  Volunteers usually commit to one-two hours a week. 

VSS is looking for volunteers who can assist students online or in person with their digital learning skills. Or, we may ask you to teach a module in class (online or in-person).

Our students receive a Chrome Book to complete homework and attend Zoom classes.  We need to train students on using this technology.  Hours are varied and/or you can attend an appointment with a student. 

VSS has Adult Basic Education classes that are in person Monday through Friday.

The schedule is 9:30 a.m. to noon.   12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. 

We need volunteers to serve as teaching assistants in the beginning and intermediate classes.  Teaching assistants will lead break-out groups, check students' work, and work with students who may be struggling in class.   

Volunteers can come for an hour during class, or for the morning or afternoon session. Volunteers work out a schedule with the teacher, so the teachers can prepare work or assignments prior to the class. Volunteers usually commit to 1 to 3 hours per week. 

VSS needs individuals interested in helping our clients with day-to-day activities as clients learn how to navigate government and medical assistance.  

Volunteers can set up appointments with clients to help them fill out paperwork, make medical appointments, apply for drivers' licenses or MN Identification Cards, and apply for jobs. VSS will connect you to a client and provide translation services if necessary.

Three-hour shifts are regularly scheduled, but adaptations can be made depending on volunteer availability.

General Description Of the Position: The 200 Orphanages Worldwide Board is vital to the continued success of the organization. The main purpose of the Executive Board Member is to serve as an ambassador for 200 Orphanages Worldwide in their community and within professional and personal networks. Doing this means to seek out additional committed supporters, donors, volunteers and advisors to serve and to support fund raising efforts for our partner projects. Also it is critical to support the organization by providing direction, clear focus and operational support if applicable.

Ambassadors engage in community outreach representing the Parkinson’s Foundation at local events and community groups. Parkinson’s Foundation Ambassadors may also serve on various chapter committees for events and initiatives.

Help us create an electronic newsletter on a monthly schedule to distribute to professionals in Minnesota. Experience with Mail Chimp is helpful but not essential. Project Pathfinder, Inc. (PPI) seeks individuals interested in supporting a program that has been committed to preventing sexual violence for 30 years! PPI is a private, non-profit (501 (c) (3)) corporation serving clients in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The majority of referrals come from the Twin Cities metro area, counties southwest of the Twin Cities as well as counties in southeastern Minnesota. A volunteer Board of Directors governs PPI and meets bi-monthly with additional committee involvement based on your skills or interests.

(Up to 8 volunteers) Serving a meal to those experiencing homelessness is a fun, rewarding and very manageable volunteer opportunity! You organize a group of 5-8 friends, family or coworkers, plan a menu using your favorite recipes or recipes from our website (www.simpsonhousing.org), purchase groceries, cook and serve a meal to approximately 40 shelter guests. Lunch is served at Noon. Depending on the menu, lunch can be provided to 45 people for about $200.

We will work with you to make it as easy as possible. From planning the menu, to figuring out portions, to orienting yourself to the kitchen, we will be there to make sure you have a meaningful and successful evening.

Hopewell Music Cooperative North (Hopewell Music) began in 2012 when two Northside music teachers shared a frustration over the diminishing access to music education. In turn, these teachers began offering lessons to area students and opened the only comprehensive music school in the area. Volunteers in our Harm Reduction area work with our Harm Reduction staff to create the kits we take on our outreach trips. Volunteers in Harm Reduction usually work in a group assembly line style, packing safer sex kits or the kits for our Syringe Exchange program. 

Harm Reduction volunteers also have opportunities to gain more Harm Reduction skills, like HIV testing, Narcan/Naloxone administration trainings, etc.

Volunteers are needed throughout the season for leaf raking, storm debris clean-up, and general park maintenance. Clean-ups will be scheduled in the spring and fall, but large groups interested in this activity may also set-up their own outing. This is an excellent opportunity for organized groups, families, and students.

Regular park clean-ups help maintain the park grounds, and ensure that all visitors have an enjoyable and safe experience during their visit to the park. Housing Justice Center is hiring an AmeriCorps VISTA Tenant Organizer for the 2023-24 Service Year!

HJC Overview

Housing Justice Center (HJC) is a nonprofit public interest legal and policy advocacy organization dedicated to the production and preservation of affordable housing and the protection of the rights of people who need affordable places to call home. The tools we use for this work are community organizing, research, education, policy advocacy, and legal advocacy.

HJC VISTA Project Overview

This VISTA project seeks to expand Housing Justice Center’s capacity to address housing instability, the lack of tenant rights knowledge, and limited organizing infrastructure for renters and manufactured housing residents in exurban Minnesota. Key issues include displacement threats, discrimination, mismanagement, unaffordability, and repair problems. This project will focus on the exurban Twin Cities counties of Wright, Sherburne, Isanti, and Chisago. The VISTA Tenant Organizer will build capacity to support low-income disabled, BIPOC, and/or immigrant renters by forging new community partnerships, developing and delivering tenant rights training, and helping create at least one new resident association in a targeted property.

This VISTA Member is part of HOME Line's Tenant Organizing VISTA Project cohort.

VISTA Responsibilities

The HJC VISTA Tenant Organizer will build organizing infrastructure in the targeted counties of Wright, Isanti, Sherburne, and Chisago. Duties include:

Do you have a sweet dog that is pet therapy certified and want to share them with our elderly patients at the end of their life?  Not pet therapy certified yet?  We can give you some guidance on how to do that!

We visit patients wherever they call home (skilled nursing facilities, assisted livings, private homes, apartments). Volunteers are an integral part of the hospice team approach by providing a supportive presence to patients, engaging patients and their loved ones in life review and reminiscing, offering respite to allow caregivers a break, and so much more!

Are you searching for a craft volunteer opportunity you can do from the comforts of your own home?

Moments Hospice is looking for craft volunteers who are interested in sewing, crocheting, or knitting patriotic wall coverings/blankets. The wall covering should have a patriotic design and be approximately six feet by four feet. These patriotic blankets will be placed over a deceased Veteran, or can be used as a keepsake for the family.

We also need craft volunteers to make fidget blankets, hospital gowns, lavender sachets, rice heating blankets, and Thinking of You cards for our patients.
