Volunteer: 2026 Groove Gala Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in helping volunteer at Spare Key's 2026 Groove Gala! This event would not be possible without the support of our incredible volunteers. Every year, we are more and more inspired by the generosity of each and every one of YOU and your willingness to help families facing a medical crisis “Bounce and Not Break”.

The 2026 Groove Gala will take place on Saturday, April 18th, 2026, at the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot! But we need volunteers throughout the entire weekend!

You will find slots with specific times and details regarding each volunteer shift and what they entail at THIS LINK. If you sign up for any of the “Night of Groove Gala” shifts, you will be notified a few days in advance of which specific section of the Gala you’ll be assisting with (e.g., registration, games, silent auction, etc.).

PLEASE NOTE: Every volunteer shift will include food and beverages! For longer shifts, we will provide full meals.

If you are volunteering on behalf of your company, please comment your company’s name in the designated comment box so we can accurately track your organization’s contribution.

Volunteer: Teddy Bear Clinic - Call for Sponsors

Hennepin Healthcare is hosting a Teddy Bear Clinic on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 9am – 1pm as part of Doors Open Minneapolis. This is ideal for children who are between 2 – 8 years old. Since children learn and express themselves through play, the aim is to educate and entertain them at a series of 12+ interactive stations to help normalize a medical experience. Children bring their Teddy Bears (or any stuffed animal) to the event and follow the “prescription” checklist (for their teddy to get stitches, x-rays, a bandage, hearing test, dentist visit and more). They also have the opportunity to tour of an ambulance and a fire truck. Free parking available in the Clinic and Specialty Center’s underground garage (entrance is at 821 Park Ave, Minneapolis). Learn more at www.hennepinhealthcare.org/teddy

Call for Sponsors:

The $1500 sponsor opportunity is available for 12 stations. Sponsor benefits include your logo on station signage, a social media mention, the opportunity to supply an insert in 400+ swag bags and the opportunity to place volunteers at your station.

Call for Event Day Volunteers:

We will also have an open call for volunteers from the community. If you wish to be added to that email, please contact Paula.Wilhelm@hcmed.org by March 19, 2026.

Volunteer: Sports Gear Drive (Age 14+)

Our mission is to provide free sports equipment, camps, grants and tickets for military families.  Your company could put together a gear drive and fundraiser to support our mission.  Everyone has the extra sets of last year's sizes in the garage, and across the company you could make a large impact.  If that was coupled with a micro fundraiser ($5 per person) across a large company (1000 employees) you'd make a macro impact!

Volunteer: Be BOLD! Be a mentor! (Age 21+)

Mentor a Young Person. Be the Steady Presence They Need.

Bolder Options mentors build meaningful, one-to-one relationships with diverse young people ages 10–14 by showing up consistently, listening, and offering encouragement. At a time when many youth are navigating stress, uncertainty, and big transitions, mentors provide something powerful: a reliable, positive adult presence.

You don’t need to have all the answers — just a willingness to care and grow alongside a young person.

What Mentoring Looks Like (Year One)

Our first-year mentoring program is relationship-based, with a strong foundation in physical wellness and goal setting.

As a mentor, you will:

Spend 2–4 hours per week with your mentee for one year

Engage in accessible physical activities together (walking, biking, gym time, sports, movement of all kinds)

Support your mentee in setting and working toward personal goals

Build trust through consistency, encouragement, and shared experiences

Activities are flexible and tailored to your mentee’s interests and abilities — you do not need to be an athlete or expert.

What Makes a Great Mentor

The most impactful mentors are:

Reliable and consistent

Good listeners who are curious and open-minded

Willing to try new things and meet youth where they are

Positive role models who believe in young people’s potential

Mentors come from all walks of life. What matters most is your commitment to showing up with care and respect.

A Long-Term Commitment to Youth

Bolder Options is committed to walking alongside young people beyond the first year. After completing the initial mentoring program, youth are invited into our alumni program, which offers:

Continued connection to caring adults

Group activities and leadership opportunities

Support with career exploration, post-secondary planning, and life skills

Our goal is to stay connected with youth through high school and into career and/or college pathways.

What You Can Expect From Us

Mentoring is free to you. Mentors are fully supported through:

A dedicated support staff member

Training and ongoing check-ins

Weekly activity ideas planned by staff

Free or low-cost tickets to local activities

YMCA membership for you and your mentee

Mentor Requirements

To ensure safe, consistent relationships, mentors must:

1) Be 21 years or older. 2) Have reliable access to a car. 3) Commit to meeting weekly for one year. 4) Complete an application, interview, background check, and orientation. Mentoring requires regular in-person connection. Long travel distances can make it difficult to sustain weekly meetings, so we prioritize mentors who live close to our service areas (within 20 min drive).

About Bolder Options

Bolder Options is a youth mentoring nonprofit focused on healthy youth development, blending physical activity, emotional wellness, goal setting, and community connection. We are proud to be an LGBTQ+ Ally Site and intentionally create inclusive environments where all youth and mentors belong.

Volunteer: Fundraising Equine/Human/Art rescue/sanctuary

Fundraising:

Art, Heart and Hoofbeats - Equine Rescue and Sanctuary is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that runs entirely on donations. We are always on the look out for help in procuring monetary donations and sponsorship, both private and corporate. We also often need individuals to collect donations of goods and services for special events (for example, gift cards and items for silent auctions). We have also received many wonderful donations from clubs, groups, and individuals who have chosen to hold a “AHH Benefit” Event. Some ideas for this would be fun shows, tack sales, rummage sales, bake sales, or informational booths at local feed or tack stores. If you are interested in holding this sort of fundraiser to help the horses and people served at AHH, please let us know!

Volunteer: Volunteers for Lending Events at South Minneapolis Toy Library (Age 14+)

Thank you for your contribution to this community effort! Lending events wouldn't be possible without your help!

Volunteers help members check toys in-and-out, with our user-friendly, custom-built computer program, as well as keep track of toys in the inventory (counting pieces etc.).

Volunteers also help to re-shelve returned toys and keep the space looking presentable.

Events can be fast-paced and fun! Take some time away from the kids and feel good about helping the community!

We especially need help on the Wednesday evening shift.  This one is difficult for us to fill.  Even an hour or two can really help us out to keep our doors open for lending hours.

Great opportunity for students who need to full fill volunteer hours for school!

Volunteer: Sort Fresh Food for Families at Today's Harvest - Free Food Market

Description

Powered by Open Cupboard, Today’s Harvest depends on the dedication of volunteers like you to serve families in need. This role is perfect if you’re looking for a hands-on, active, and fun way to give back to your community!

Today’s Harvest offers a fresh approach to food access. By rescuing food that might otherwise go to waste, we provide neighbors with a changing selection of fresh produce, bread, meat, and other staples. Each visit gives households a 1–2 day supply of nutritious food, helping families stretch their budgets. Guests are welcome to visit as often as needed.

Open six days a week, Today’s Harvest is a bustling market that simply wouldn’t run without the support of our amazing volunteers. From stocking shelves to greeting guests, there’s always meaningful work to do—and every shift makes a real difference.

Food Sorting Overview

Food sorting plays a vital role in ensuring that families who visit Today’s Harvest receive healthy, safe, and high-quality food—all while helping reduce food waste in our community.

Food sorting is the process of organizing and preparing rescued food so it’s safe, fresh, and ready to share with our community. When food donations arrive—often from grocery stores, food rescue partners, or community drives—volunteers help sort through the items to check for quality and safety.

This includes:

Separating food into categories such as produce, bread, meat, dairy, and dry goods.

Removing items that are spoiled, damaged, or unsafe to distribute.

Organizing market-ready food so it can be stocked quickly and efficiently.

Composting, garbage or recycling items when appropriate.

Requirements

Volunteers must be age 15 or older Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift 20 pounds Volunteers are required to wear close-toed shoes

Schedule

Mondays-Fridays: 10:00am - 12:00pm or 12:00 - 3:00pm

Locations

Today's Harvest Maplewood - 1740 Van Dyke St, Maplewood MN 55109

Today's Harvest Oakdale, 8264 4th St N, Oakdale, MN 55128

To get started, complete our volunteer application form, or contact us at volunteer@opencupboard.org or (651) 300-0662. You can also visit our website at www.todaysharvestmn.org for more information.

Volunteer: Minnesota Youth Robotics Tournament Judge or Referee

Come be inspired by what kids can accomplish as a judge or referee at a FIRST Tech Challenge or FIRST LEGO League tournament. We need both judges and referees to make these Robotics tournaments a success. This fall, students in grades 4 to 12 will form Robotics teams to participate in these FIRST programs.

In Minnesota, these talented kids will compete at an event organized by High Tech Kids. Join us to be inspired by these students. Following volunteer training in September - October, spend a full Saturday or Sunday of your choice in November through February judging or refereeing at a High Tech Kids Robotics Tournament. Kids will explain what they learned and built through these FIRST programs. Judges ask questions and provide encouragement to teams during judging sessions, then collaborate with other judges to determine award winners. Referees officiate robot performance matches, tabulate scores, and encourage teams in a fun, energy-filled environment.

Address is our office, but tournaments are held at various schools in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota.

Training is offered live in September - October, see our website for details https://hightechkids.org/volunteer-overview/training-volunteer/. New volunteers will be paired with an experienced volunteer at their first event.  Volunteers would come in around 2pm/2:30pm and stay until 3:30/4:00pm.  Volunteers can serve as snack helpers 1-5 times/week, depending on their interest and schedule.

We do ask volunteers to make a regular schedule with volunteers letting staff know if they can’t make it on scheduled dates.

Volunteers would need to do a background check. Volunteers will need to follow food safety guidelines but do not need to go through official food safety certification.  All supplies and ingredients are provided.

Volunteer: Youth Supervisor for trips to Feed My Starving Children

This fall, Cimarron Teens from FamilyMeans will be going to Feed My Starving Children to help pack meals. FamilyMeans is looking for volunteers to help provide supervision and sealing food packages for those trips. We will be requesting volunteers that have mobility and will be able to stand for a 90-minute session.  As of now, we are looking for morning shifts, afternoon shift, and night shifts. Please contact on Anh – adoan@familymeans.org -- for confirmation of the dates and times.

While helping at Feed My Starving Children is in the fall volunteers can continue to volunteer for our youth programs afterwards.
