Children’s Volunteer Coordinator (Six month minimum commitment)
Reports To
In-house Advocates
Position Description
Supports In-house Advocates in recruiting and maintaining volunteers working with children and youth.
Responsibilities
- Develop and run children’s activities as needed.
- Meet and assist volunteers in developing activities
- Provide feedback on proposed activities.
- Assist in organizing Proyecto Navidad
- Establish an activity schedule for winter and summer break
- Help plan and facilitate after-school educational/recreational activities for children and youth in the shelter
- Assist with providing transportation for families
Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish and English (required)
- Commitment to Casa de Esperanza’s mission, philosophy, and code of ethics
- Sensitivity toward survivors of domestic violence
- Ability to relate to people of diverse cultures, sexual orientations, income levels, and abilities
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with and relate to children and young people
- Demonstrated understanding of Latin@ culture
- Ability to be flexible with scheduling and adaptability with change
- Ability to take leadership and be a self-starter
Preferences
- Driver’s license and car
- Great organizational skills
- Experience working with and planning activities for children
Training Provided
Eight-hour initial training on working with battered women and their children
Training on shelter rules and procedures for working with children (1 hour)
Ongoing on-the-job training
