Young Authors Conference (YAC) gives 4th-8th grade students the opportunity to learn from professionals with real writing experience. Students attend a keynote address and three interactive writing sessions led by local fiction and non-fiction writers. Students leave YAC with a greater passion to write and a new set of strategies and ideas with which to experiment.
General Event Volunteers make the day a success for all kids in attendance. Guide students as they navigate across 6 buildings on the Bethel University campus, help with morning check-in, monitor the lunch, book fair, and/or open mic, collate/distribute supplies, collect evaluations, and check rooms for lost & found. Volunteers work together to make it a safe and fun day for all!
Lunch Team Volunteers work together to check-in bag lunches, move them (using carts) to the lunch location, distribute lunches to teachers, monitor the space, and provide light clean-up.
Same-day training provided. No experience required, but a passion for working with kids is recommended.
As the school year begins, we are closely monitoring the pandemic and learning how school field trips and extra curriculars are safely taking place. SBC will follow MDH and CDC recommendations that promote health and safety and mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission. As events get closer, we will update all participants on specific safety protocols.
