Volunteer: Be the First Friendly Face: Community Welcome VolunteerAbout Us
The Minnesota Valley Chapter of the Izaak Walton League is a 100% volunteer-run community of people who love nature, care about conservation, and believe community should feel human, not bureaucratic. We steward land along the Minnesota River and support youth leadership, art, and storytelling through programs like the Green Crew, the Kouba Gallery, and the Young IKE podcast. The Opportunity (What This Really Is)When someone reaches out to volunteer, they’re usually excited — and a little unsure. This role is simply about being the first friendly human response. No systems. Just making people feel welcome and helping them take their next small step. What You’d Actually DoSend a warm reply when someone says, “I’d like to help.” Ask a simple question like, “What are you interested in?” Point them toward an upcoming event, project day, or person. Occasionally send a quick thank-you after they participate. That’s it. You are not responsible for outcomes — just connection. Who This Is Perfect ForSomeone kind, responsive, and human A people-person who doesn’t want a “role” Someone who believes first impressions matter Anyone who likes helping others feel less awkward walking into something new Time & CommitmentTotally flexible Often bursty, not constant Usually a few emails a month, sometimes none Fully remote Why This MattersPeople don’t stay because of spreadsheets. Volunteer: Dakota County Natural Resources Habitat Stewards General Description Help us showcase what Minnesota natives have to offer while supporting healthy habitats in Lebanon Hills Regional Park. Habitat Stewards focus on maintaining designated areas that have been planted with native grasses and wildflowers in highly visible areas of our parks. These locations provide pollinator habitat as well as serve as demonstration gardens for park visitors that will hopefully inspire folks to “go native” in their own backyards. Tasks will vary for each shift but will include general garden maintenance such as weeding, pruning, watering, planting, etc. No knowledge of plants or gardening is needed, in fact, volunteers will learn about plant identification, gardening skills, and habitat restoration practices related to native plants during their time in the gardens by seasoned professionals and county staff. Great program for all ages and walks of life - many hands make lighter work. A tidy garden is an eye-catching way for people to learn more about pollinators and pollinating plants and the important roles they play in our lives. Help us keep this area bloomin’ and boomin’! Volunteer: Master Water Stewards (Age 18 +)The Master Water Stewards program certifies and supports community leaders to protect and improve the health of MN's water. Wherever you live, you can join over 250 Master Water Steward volunteers and work in our own community to contribute to the millions of gallons of polluted stormwater that stewards are keeping out of our lakes and rivers each year. Everything on city streets flows to our water- bacteria, salt, litter, sediment, fertilizer. Each year, more polluted runoff reach our lakes and rivers faster, causing flooding downstream. Pollutants are not being filtered or broken down by passing through the soil, making water dirtier.
