Volunteer: Grace Hospice seeking human and pet volunteers throughout the Mpls./St. Paul metro area and outlying suburbs

Grace Hospice is actively recruiting new volunteers – humans and pets! Obedient and socialized pets make excellent companions for our patients and tend to bring lots of smiles and joy to everyone. If you have a well-trained and friendly pet over the age of one who responds appropriately to verbal commands, please consider putting them to work at Grace! We would also love to connect with individuals with therapy-certified pets. We welcome your application.

As always, we seek openhearted adult volunteers (with or without pets!) to provide companionship and comfort to our patients and families. We ask volunteers to commit to 2-4 visits per month, and scheduling is very flexible. Volunteer functions vary and depend on areas of interest and experience. Roles include companionship, caregiver respite, legacy work, virtual bereavement support, and more. Training is provided at orientation and optional monthly educational workshops. At this time, we are especially eager to recruit volunteers interested in working with companion-seeking patients with dementia. Applications welcomed!

Thanks so much for your consideration. Please contact Grace Volunteer Services at GraceVolunteerServices@gracecaring.org, or call 612-238-0034.

About Grace Hospice: Grace Hospice was developed through a partnership with Augustana Care (now Cassia) and Mount Olivet Careview home. These organizations have a long history of quality care, have rich blessings of volunteers, and provide service to those in physical, emotional, or spiritual need. Fostering peace and grace, we emotionally and spiritually support the patient and their loved ones. We work as an interdisciplinary team and encircle patients with comfort, honesty, and respect for their decisions. Our mission is to serve God by recognizing that every person deserves to live with respect and dignity, free of pain, and in an environment that promotes quality of life.

We serve the metro Twin Cities and surrounding areas and meet patients wherever they call home.

Volunteer: Start a Meals on Wheels Workplace Delivery team!

Are you looking for a workplace volunteer opportunity that makes a huge impact on your community, is easy to implement and manage, and is something employees can do over the lunch hour? If so, delivering meals is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you and your co-workers!

It only takes a lunch hour to deliver meals to eight to 10 people in need. How’s that for a power lunch? Companies of all sizes across the Twin Cities have discovered Meals on Wheels as the perfect volunteer opportunity for their employees.

Why does it work?

• Volunteers deliver meals once a month, once a week, or on a custom schedule depending on the team size,

• Meals are delivered during the employees’ lunch hour with a co-worker or individually.

• Typically, no one employee is out of the office for more than 1 hour a month.

• As a volunteer experience, this allows for great corporate social responsibility with minimal cost.

What are the benefits?

• Builds exceptional employee morale, creates better employee communication, and promotes team building.

• Allows busy people to give back to the community without taking away evening and weekend time with their families.

• Companies are seen in the community as a partner to Meals on Wheels, a trusted and well-known organization

What are companies saying about the experience?

Daniel O’Keefe, Executive Vice President for Benfield, Inc. says, “At the expense of a few minutes of weekly contact, I have provided companionship and friendship to an elderly person who might otherwise feel much more alone than she does. In return, I have experienced a friendship with a very remarkable woman. For me, it’s a very great return for a very small price.”

WORKPLACE DELIVERY TEAMS: HOW DO THEY WORK?

What does a Workplace Delivery Team look like? A team consists of two or more individuals who agree to take turns delivering meals to seniors and people with disabilities. Volunteers can deliver in teams of two and may choose to do so once a month, or more often if it works for them. Teams can be easily scaled up to accommodate however many volunteers are interested.

How long does it take? The delivery takes about an hour. There are over 30 Meals on Wheels sites metro-wide, so the program site won’t be far away.

Who manages the process? Each Workplace Delivery Team picks one person to be the team leader. If needed, the position may be rotated within the group. This position may be filled with a community affairs employee or a volunteer.

What are the team leader’s responsibilities? The leader is responsible for maintaining a volunteer schedule and acts as the liaison between the company and the Meals on Wheels site.

What are the benefits? Volunteers will help eight to 10 individuals in need of nutritious meals and a human connection. Just knowing you’ve made a difference in someone’s life can be a tremendous reward. It’s a wonderful way to feel coming back from your lunch break!

Some ideas for this would be fun shows, tack sales, rummage sales, bake sales, or informational booths at local feed or tack stores. Volunteer: Sewing Teachers & Teachers' Aides

Do you like to sew? Do you like talking about sewing and helping other people learn to sew? Do you want to do something concrete to support & build connection with African communities in the Twin Cities? Then you've gotta come hang out with us. Under One Roof Fiber Arts provides free sewing classes to African immigrants in the Twin Cities. All of our classes are volunteer-run, and we are always looking for more people who want to share their sewing skills while hanging out with a bunch of cool women.

Okay but what does that actually mean?

We're looking for both Teachers & Teacher's Aides. We aim to have 2-3 volunteers assigned to each class, so we need both people who are comfortable leading a class and people who'd rather assist and help answer student questions. Scheduling is as flexible as you need it to be. We've got ongoing classes as well as one-time classes, so you can help out every Weds morning or you can teach a class once a month. We appreciate whatever time you're willing to donate. We just want to make it easy for you to come in and share your knowledge. All of our students are African immigrants and most speak English as a second (or third or fourth) language. Some are new arrivals who are still learning the basics.  It's okay if you don't have a ton of experience working with ESL students, but you do need to be open to working with people who are different from you and maybe learning new & better ways to communicate across language barriers. Unless you're also an African immigrant, then it probably won't be anything new (and you can totally both be a volunteer and also take a class if there's something that's a new skill for you).Really we're just trying to have fun and sew together, so if you've gotten this far, just send a message and let's figure out a way for you to get involved.

Volunteer: Knitting & Crochet Teachers & Teachers' Aides

Do you like to knit and/or crochet? (Are you some kind of magician who likes doing both?) Do you like showing other people how to do those things? Do you want to support and build connection with the African communities of the Twin Cities? Ooh do I have good news for you.

Under One Roof Fiber Arts provides free sewing/knitting/etc classes to African immigrants in the Twin Cities. All of our classes are volunteer-run, and we are always looking for more people who want to share their skills while hanging out with a bunch of cool women. You do not need to be an expert--we're really just trying to build community by sharing skills and making things together.

IMPORTANT! Right at this exact moment, we're only holding classes in St. Paul, but we're hoping to expand to satellite locations around the metro in 2026. So if you don't want to drive to St. Paul all the time but you do want to hang out and knit, send a message anyway and we can make some plans for the future.

Volunteer: Lead Arts and Craft Classes for Older Adults

Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors offers a variety of classes and activities for older adults in the Longfellow and Seward neighborhoods of Minneapolis. We are looking for volunteers interested in leading craft or art skill classes.  Beginning watercolor, rock painting, Alcohol ink,  card crafting or simple clay projects are all popular with our community. But we would love to hear your ideas! Projects need to be assessable to all skill levels and provide options for students  who struggle with dexterity.

Classes can be single-session, or take the form of weekly or monthly programs. You provide the skills and talent and Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors provides the event space and program materials.

Volunteer: Help Older Adults Stay Independent—Become a Volunteer Driver!

Many older adults who no longer drive face challenges getting to medical appointments or running essential errands like grocery shopping. We seek individuals who enjoy driving and, more importantly, helping others stay connected and independent.

Our mission at Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors is to empower seniors to live healthy, independent, and socially engaged lives. Reliable transportation for medical appointments and grocery shopping is vital to making this possible.

As a Volunteer Driver, you will help seniors by providing rides to medical appointments and assisting with grocery pickup and delivery. Most trips are within 15miles.

If you're 19 or older, have a good driving record, and own a safe, well-maintained vehicle, we encourage you to join us in supporting our local seniors. A background check and orientation will be provided for all new volunteers.

Volunteer: Food Shelf Deliveries to Older Adults

Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors (LSHS) and Minnehaha Food Shelf (located in the Minnehaha United Methodist Church, 3701 E. 31st St) joined forces back in August of 2020 with concern for older adults in the community who were unable to pick up their food shelf items in person due to the COVID pandemic.

LSHS continues to provide this food shelf delivery service to older adults in the greater Longfellow neighborhoods, and we are looking for  volunteers who can assist with this program on at least one Tuesday a month.

Volunteers will be asked to work alongside LSHS and Minnehaha Food Shelf staff to choose and pack needed items to be delivered.  The number of clients varies,  but there are no more than 2 delivery stops. This opportunity can be physically demanding, and there is some heavy lifting involved. However, we work as a team to lighten the load.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one Tuesday morning a month for 1.5 -2.0 hours.

Volunteer: Technology for Seniors - Donate tablets for isolated older adults.

Gifts for Seniors and Tech for Seniors accept in-kind donations by appointment or via mail only (no unscheduled drop-ins). Schedule your appointment today by emailing info@giftsforseniors.org!

The Tech for Seniors initiative is dedicated to getting tablets into the hands of isolated older adults who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford one themselves. During the pandemic older adults who were already experiencing isolation suddenly became further challenged to remain connected when they were cut off from the outside world. In best efforts to alleviate the devastating loneliness, Tech for Seniors was launched. Volunteers pre-load donated tablets with video conferencing software, networking opportunities, several mind-occupying apps, and other entertainment options. The in-store purchasing function may also be disabled so less tech savvy seniors are not exploited by scammers.

Tech for Seniors, a program of Gifts for Seniors, offers two programs in pursuit of our mission to alleviate social isolation and loneliness.

Our Partner Tablet Program provides shareable tablets and support programs to aging service providers. The Senior Tablet program provides a tablet and services for older adults who live independently.

This opportunity is available throughout the year! Thank you!!!

Volunteer: Calling All Card Makers - Make cards for isolated older adults!

We accept in-kind donations by appointment or via mail only (no unscheduled drop-ins). Schedule your appointment today by emailing info@giftsforseniors.org!

Learn more about Cards for Seniors.

We need your help to provide handmade or handwritten well wishes on greeting cards for isolated older adults. Please sort by season/holiday when shipping.   Project suggestions: Write in large block print letters using lots of color. Inside the card: Share some simple information about themselves (e.g., their favorite hobbies, pets, school, etc.). You can also write a simple poem and greeting inside the card. This makes the handmade card a very personal and thoughtful gift for the older person to receive. “Sign” the back of the card with your first name AND the name of the group, as well as the age of the child or children if applicable. Materials you might use include stickers, watercolors, puff paint, foam craft, feathers, ribbons, colored tissue paper, buttons, and of course, colored markers. DO NOT use glitter or sequins; they fall off. Helpful Hint: focus on joy!

This opportunity is available throughout the year! Thank you!

Powered by Open Cupboard, Today’s Harvest depends on the dedication of volunteers like you to serve families in need. This role is perfect if you’re looking for a hands-on, active, and fun way to give back to your community!

Today’s Harvest offers a fresh approach to food access. By rescuing food that might otherwise go to waste, we provide neighbors with a changing selection of fresh produce, bread, meat, and other staples. Each visit gives households a 1–2 day supply of nutritious food, helping families stretch their budgets. Guests are welcome to visit as often as needed.

Open six days a week, Today’s Harvest is a bustling market that simply wouldn’t run without the support of our amazing volunteers. From stocking shelves to greeting guests, there’s always meaningful work to do—and every shift makes a real difference.

Food Sorting Overview

Food sorting plays a vital role in ensuring that families who visit Today’s Harvest receive healthy, safe, and high-quality food—all while helping reduce food waste in our community.

Food sorting is the process of organizing and preparing rescued food so it’s safe, fresh, and ready to share with our community. When food donations arrive—often from grocery stores, food rescue partners, or community drives—volunteers help sort through the items to check for quality and safety.

This includes:

Separating food into categories such as produce, bread, meat, dairy, and dry goods.

Removing items that are spoiled, damaged, or unsafe to distribute.

Organizing market-ready food so it can be stocked quickly and efficiently.

Composting, garbage or recycling items when appropriate.

Requirements

Volunteers must be age 15 or older Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift 20 pounds Volunteers are required to wear close-toed shoes

Schedule

Mondays-Fridays: 10:00am - 12:00pm or 12:00 - 3:00pm

Locations

Today's Harvest Maplewood - 1740 Van Dyke St, Maplewood MN 55109

Volunteer: Friday Day Out Fun Crew Volunteer

Do you like to build puzzles, sing and dance, play games, hang out with other people and do other fun activities? If so FamilyMeans Day Out Program might be a fit for you. Day Out is a program for caregivers to drop off their care receivers. Caregivers get a well-deserved break while care receivers get to participate in fun activities. This program happens on Fridays from 9:30 am to 1 pm. Volunteers help guide participants, which we call friends, through these activities in a 1:1 ratio. Volunteers can’t and therefore aren’t expected to help with the personal care of clients. While Day Out occurs every Friday volunteers can sign up month by month for Fridays that work for them. Some volunteers like to come as often as possible, and others sign up once a month or less.

Volunteers love this program because there is a real sense of community with the volunteers and the friends. They also enjoy helping friends through these activities and getting to know them. They also really enjoy the themes we have each day and some volunteers really like dressing up for those themes.

Typical Day Out Schedule

9:30-9:45- Volunteer meeting

9:45 to 10- Friends start filtering in

10:00-10:15- Time for chatting
