The foster mentors serve as the main support contact for current foster homes.  The foster mentors will assist with initial on boarding and ongoing questions related to foster animals.  The ideal volunteer candidate will be or have been an animal foster and will be familiar with basic cat and/or dog needs and behaviors.  

This is a volunteer position and requires up to 10 hours a week.

Competencies, Knowledge and Skills

Comfortable working in an animal welfare setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including patience, compassion, problem solving, the ability to be professional and organized, detail-oriented, and work with diverse people from varied backgrounds. Team player with the ability to work courteously and cooperatively with volunteers and staff of CSHS, as well as the public. Ability to respond promptly to messages from foster homes, veterinary partners, and CSHS volunteers or staff, especially regarding emergency situations. Familiarity with and willingness to learn about animal care and behavior and previous experience in working with animals is desired.

Want to VOLUNTEER but can’t commit to a schedule?

YOU can help CSHS with local transport!!

Transport Volunteers will transport cats and/or dogs for Carver Scott Humane Society (CSHS) so that they can be delivered to vet appointments and adoption events, picked up from local impounds, brought to adoption areas of our retail partners (PetSmart, Chuck & Don’s stores, etc.), dropped off at our office, or returned to their foster homes.  

Most transports are needed during the week (Monday-Friday) during the business hours of our vet or store partners or local impounds (7am-6pm).  Transports occur primarily within and around the south and west metro areas of the Twin Cities.
