Opportunities From: HandsOn Twin Cities

Volunteer: Provide a Meal for Our Shelter

Volunteer dinner groups purchase, prepare, and serve a nutritious meal to 21 residents at our emergency shelter every night of the year. It’s a perfect opportunity for families, congregations, co-workers, or friends to join together for a fun and fulfilling evening!

Volunteers can use our shelter kitchen to cook a meal, or cook at home and bring the meal ready to go! We have so many open dates and could use any support we can get.

If you don't have time to cook a meal, please consider donating the funds for one online! It costs about $250 to feed our shelter guests.

Open meal dates can be found here-https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b44aea72ea2f85-nov

Sponsoring a meal can be done here-https://oscs-mn.org/donate/

More details can be found here - https://oscs-mn.org/osh-volunteer-opportunities/. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@oshousing.org or 612-872-4193 x2 before delivering donations, as we want to make sure someone is available to collect donations from you. We look forward to working with you!

Volunteer: POSITION: Member of the Board of Directors (Expertise in the following areas especially sought but not required: Finance, Accounting, Law, Public Relations and Marketing),

In 2025, Our Saviour’s Community Services specifically seeks new Members of the Board of Directors with professional experience in areas of Finance, Accounting, Law, Public Relations and Marketing.

WHO ARE WE?

Our Saviour’s Community Services (OSCS) walks with people in community in the heart of Phillips, one of the most diverse neighborhoods in South Minneapolis. We provide dignified shelter and housing for single adults and education for adult English language learners through our two programs – Our Saviour’s Housing and the English Learning Center.

Approximately three-quarters of our participants are BIPOC, and roughly 60% of our 35 employees share that identity. Historically, our board composition has lagged behind the diversity of our staff and participants in several dimensions, including racial diversity.

Our Board is examining and addressing contributing factors to our current composition and we welcome applicants to the Board who are dedicated to this work. As one example, in early 2023, we updated our organization’s bylaws to increase the accessibility and inclusion of Board membership.

WHO ARE YOU?

Strong candidates will have:

● A passion and commitment to engage in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging work on personal, organizational, and systemic levels.

● Comfort performing fiduciary oversight for OSCS, balancing the need for feasibility with a focus on equitable financial decision making.

● A willingness to engage in critical, creative, and strategic thought.

● Interest in joining a vibrant group of committed volunteers, and

● A desire to share and/or gain skills in strategic planning, financial oversight, and governance.

● Varied and diverse identities and perspectives. We serve a community diverse in age, country of origin, cultural background, educational background, financial background, gender identity, language, race, and religion and family composition. We strive to create a board that adequately reflects these identities and experiences.

In 2025, we are focused on adding candidates to our board who bring -- among other talents -- experience with law, finance and/or accounting, public relations and/or marketing.

Board applications are accepted on an annual basis, and focus areas change from year to year.

All candidates must have:

● Expertise gained through living in the community, or in a relevant and needed area such as adult education/ESL, engagement/marketing, fundraising, governance, government, healthcare management, housing, human resources, legal expertise, leadership experience, and non-profit finance

● A willingness to financially contribute to OSCS as your household is able.

● Consistent time (2-4 hrs./month) to dedicate to participating in monthly board and committee work. The board typically meets on the last Monday of the month at 6PM and alternates between one in person meeting and one virtual meeting each trimester.

● The ability to serve at least one 2-year term and up to 3 concurrent terms.
