Volunteer: Help Tutor and Mentor Local Students NOW! (Age 55 +)

Foster Grandparents provide one-on-one mentoring a few hours a week to at-risk youth to help them boost their self-esteem and overall success. In this role, you can positively impact the lives of children and youth, find a meaningful way to give back and earn extra income.

Since 1965, Foster Grandparent volunteers have shared their wisdom and experience with children and youth to make impressions that have lasted a lifetime. They are role models, mentors and friends.

Depending on need, volunteers support youth in a variety of settings including at public and private schools, Head Start locations, shelters and at day care centers.

Volunteer: Become a VIRTUAL Neighbor to Neighbor Companion Today! (Age 18 +)

We are seeking dedicated volunteers for our Neighbor to Neighbor Companion service in metro and rural areas of Minnesota. You can make a difference in the life of an older adult, share skills, meet new people and have fun in the community.

A Neighbor to Neighbor Companion is a bridge to fuller, more active lives for older adults who need a little extra support to continue living at home, stay healthy and remain as independent as possible.

COVID-19 Update

Due to the current pandemic, Neighbor to Neighbor Companion services are currently being offered exclusively virtually via phone and video chat. We will transition back to in person visits and reintroduce transportation support when we can do so safely, following state and federal guidelines

Volunteer: Become a Caregiver Support Volunteer - Make a Difference! (Age 17 +)

Minnesota is aging like never before, and the number of people stepping into caregiver roles to ensure the health and well-being of older adults is climbing too. LSS Caregiver Support AmeriCorps volunteers visit older adults at their homes and in the community for a few hours each week, allowing family caregivers to take a well-deserved break to run errands, rest and recharge.

During visits, volunteers offer older adults friendship and support at home. They may also assist by driving them to activities, doctor's appointments or to run errands. By giving just a few hours of your time each week, you can change lives and have a positive impact on your community.

Thanks to financial support from AmeriCorps, volunteers who contribute approximately ten hours a week for a year (450 hours per year) can qualify for a monthly living allowance and education grant. If you are interested in volunteering less than ten hours a week, similar opportunities are also available.
