Volunteer: Support Youth Leadership Behind the Scenes: Green Crew Scouting Advisor

Description:
The Green Crew is an award-winning, youth-led conservation and environmental leadership program based in Bloomington, MN. Our leadership team operates as Venture Crew 3111, and we are seeking Adult Advisors with a background in Scouting who are willing to support the backend operations of our Venture unit.

This role is ideal for former or current Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Venture Advisors, committee members, or Scouters who understand how youth-led units work—and who enjoy helping things run smoothly behind the scenes.

This is not a role about running meetings or directing youth leaders. It’s about providing structure, continuity, and operational support so youth can lead with confidence and focus on conservation and leadership.

Your Role:

Support the backend operations of Venture Crew 3111

Assist with logistics such as scheduling, permissions, advancement records, and compliance

Provide guidance on Scouting processes, policies, and best practices

Help maintain continuity as youth leadership rotates and grows

Serve as a trusted adult resource to the Green Crew leadership team and primary advisors

Why This Role Matters:

Strong youth leadership depends on solid adult support systems

Your Scouting experience helps ensure programs are safe, compliant, and sustainable

You’ll enable youth to focus on leadership, service, and conservation—not paperwork

This is a meaningful way to stay connected to Scouting values while supporting an innovative, youth-led conservation program

You’ll Be a Great Fit If…

You have experience in Scouting (BSA, Venture, Sea Scouts, or related roles)

You believe deeply in youth-led leadership models

You enjoy organization, continuity, and operational problem-solving

You’re comfortable supporting from the background rather than being front-and-center

Time Commitment:
Approximately 2–4 hours per month, with flexibility depending on the season and needs of the unit.

Location:
Bloomington, MN and surrounding communities. Some support can be provided remotely.

Volunteer: Guide the Leaders: Adult Advisor for Youth Environmental Leadership

Description:
The Green Crew is an award-winning, youth-led conservation and environmental leadership program based in Bloomington, MN. Our youth leaders don’t just participate in projects—they set direction, make decisions, and lead teams. We’re seeking Adult Leadership Advisors to join us once a month to support these youth as they grow into confident, thoughtful environmental leaders.

This role is about mentorship, perspective, and trust—not control. You won’t be running meetings or making decisions. Instead, you’ll serve as a sounding board, a steady presence, and a supportive guide as youth leaders navigate planning, collaboration, and leadership challenges.

Your Role:

Attend a monthly Green Crew youth leadership meeting

Provide consultation and mentorship to youth leaders as requested

Help youth think through decisions, priorities, and challenges

Share perspective from your own leadership or professional experience

Support a culture of accountability, inclusion, and youth agency

Why This Role Matters:

Youth leadership thrives when adults show up as allies, not directors

Your experience can help young leaders think more strategically and confidently

You’ll help cultivate the next generation of environmental and civic leaders

This is a meaningful, low-time-commitment way to invest in youth leadership and community impact

You’ll Be a Great Fit If…

You enjoy mentoring young people and listening more than directing

You have experience in leadership, education, environmental work, nonprofit service, or community organizing

You believe young people should have real authority and responsibility

You’re comfortable offering guidance while honoring youth-led decision-making

Time Commitment:
Approximately 1–2 hours per month. Meetings are scheduled in advance and may be held in person or virtually.

Location:
Bloomington, MN and surrounding communities (with some virtual participation possible).
