Volunteer: Sort Fresh Food for Families at Today's Harvest - Free Food MarketDescription Powered by Open Cupboard, Today’s Harvest depends on the dedication of volunteers like you to serve families in need. This role is perfect if you’re looking for a hands-on, active, and fun way to give back to your community! Today’s Harvest offers a fresh approach to food access. By rescuing food that might otherwise go to waste, we provide neighbors with a changing selection of fresh produce, bread, meat, and other staples. Each visit gives households a 1–2 day supply of nutritious food, helping families stretch their budgets. Guests are welcome to visit as often as needed. Open six days a week, Today’s Harvest is a bustling market that simply wouldn’t run without the support of our amazing volunteers. From stocking shelves to greeting guests, there’s always meaningful work to do—and every shift makes a real difference.
Food sorting plays a vital role in ensuring that families who visit Today’s Harvest receive healthy, safe, and high-quality food—all while helping reduce food waste in our community. Food sorting is the process of organizing and preparing rescued food so it’s safe, fresh, and ready to share with our community. When food donations arrive—often from grocery stores, food rescue partners, or community drives—volunteers help sort through the items to check for quality and safety. This includes: Separating food into categories such as produce, bread, meat, dairy, and dry goods. Removing items that are spoiled, damaged, or unsafe to distribute. Organizing market-ready food so it can be stocked quickly and efficiently. Composting, garbage or recycling items when appropriate. Requirements Volunteers must be age 15 or older Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift 20 pounds Volunteers are required to wear close-toed shoesSchedule Mondays-Fridays: 10:00am - 12:00pm or 12:00 - 3:00pmLocations Today's Harvest Maplewood - 1740 Van Dyke St, Maplewood MN 55109 Today's Harvest Oakdale, 8264 4th St N, Oakdale, MN 55128 Nonprofit: Open Cupboard Description Powered by Open Cupboard, Today’s Harvest depends on the dedication of volunteers like you to serve families in need. Volunteer: Fight Hunger with Sanneh: Nutritional Services VolunteerNutritional Services
The Sanneh Foundation was founded as a youth sports organization in 2003 by former World Cup soccer player and native Minnesotan, Tony Sanneh. The Sanneh Foundation has broadened its reach and now provides a broad swath of services to address the social determinants of health across Minnesota. Our goal is to eliminate Minnesota’s steep racial and ethnic disparities in health outcomes, education, and income. The Sanneh Foundation leads by listening to community members and providing services that are culturally responsive, empowering, and designed to improve lives. In an increasingly diverse state, Sanneh is at the forefront of meeting the needs of underserved communities so that every Minnesotan can grow up with the education, health care, home life, and strong community support they need to thrive. Our Nutritional Services team works together to improve the lives of community members experiencing hunger by safely and efficiently distributing donated products from food rescue partners to hundreds of households each week across the Twin Cities. With the support of generous volunteers, our program also empowers youth through on-the-job training and coordinates free food distributions Monday through Friday — rain or shine! Volunteer: Free Fresh Food FridayFree Fresh Food Fridays will take place on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of May through September. During each event, we transform our parking lot into a vibrant, farmers' market–style space where community members can select fresh produce at no cost. It’s an energetic and meaningful morning made possible by dedicated volunteers. Volunteers arrive at 7:30 a.m. for a brief welcome and orientation with our food shelf team, followed by setting up tents and preparing for distribution. From 9:00–11:00 a.m., volunteers assist in distributing fresh food to approximately 300–400 community members. Afterward, the team works together to clean up, with the event typically concluding by noon. Each event requires 40 volunteers, and it’s a fun, hands-on opportunity to make a real difference. Many teams enjoy the chance to serve side-by-side while supporting the community in a meaningful way. Nonprofit: Bridge to Basics We invite you to host a Hygiene Drive to collect personal care products and help ensure everyone in our community has access to daily essentials for a healthy life. This is a great way to create a fun service project for your organization, business or community. Timing and goals are determined by you; however, needed products and criteria are listed below (note: you do not need to collect all but could focus on Oral or Body Care for instance). We will provide you with a toolkit on how to execute a successful drive. If you'd like, a representative from Bridge to Basics can come speak to your group about hygiene insecurity, research and our mission. We can also bring a branded barrel to host your donations. All products can be dropped off at our warehouse or picked up by a Bridge to Basics' volunteer. These items are then added to the hygiene bank inventory and donated to local nonprofits serving hygiene insecure neighbors. Contact hello@bridgetobasics.org to request your toolkit.
