Volunteer: Family Engagement Program Volunteer (18+)Are you looking for a fun volunteer opportunity, and a chance to work directly with the families being served? We are currently looking to recruit volunteers to help us with our monthly "Family Game Nights" and "Family Movie Nights" at People Serving People's downtown shelter. Tasks include assisting staff in the set-up and cleanup of the event, facilitate games for children and families, participate in activities alongside families, and distributing/restocking snacks and beverages. In addition, volunteers may be asked to help with check-in to track total number of families participating and to welcome families to the engagement. The event is an "open house” activity for families, meaning the amount of participation for our guests may vary. We ask our volunteers to be adaptable to PSP to changes in need or activities as they arise. These events are open to all our families, though you will primarily be working with children between the ages of 6 -12. We welcome volunteers to bring any age appropriate games that they'd like to offer to guests at our shelter! Volunteer: Help Serve Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner to our Families!People Serving People is in large need and in search of dedicated volunteers to support our culinary team on an ongoing basis! For every shift, People Serving People serves an average of 150 - 200 meals to guests residing in our shelter. We depend on the support of our volunteers to support our staff, meet the need, and to provide quality service to the families we serve. Shifts happen three times a day at breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of the week. Below are the current shift timeframes available to volunteers: While each meal may not always take the full two hours, volunteers must be available for the entire shift time to assist our culinary team in cleaning our dining hall or other secondary tasks. Volunteers must be 18+, or 13+ with a guardian or adult chaperone. We encourage parents or chaperones to assess each young person's ability to volunteer effectively on a case-by-case basis. Volunteers are expected to be on their feet but stationary for approx. 1.5hrs serving food on a service line to families. Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with strangers and being patient with different engagement and conversation styles.
