Opportunities From: HandsOn Twin Cities

The Center for Healing and Wholeness is looking for volunteers who have a musical ability and can come and play a musical instrument or sing to our seniors who come to respite on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

We meet from 9:00am-12:00pm so volunteers can come and play for 30 minutes to an hour during that time.

This is a weekend (2nd Saturday of each month) opportunity to provide respite for care givers of seniors who are experiencing memory loss. Group respite is available to care receivers while their care giver attends education and support groups. Respite activities and leadership are provided by the Normandale Center for Healing and Wholeness. The Center provides 1:1 volunteer partnerships for respite reservations.

We engage in fun activities such as bingo, art activities, word finds, playing card games, music and more!

It would be between 9:00am-10:30am and 10:30am-12pm. Either shifts can be selected or you can stay for both.

Normandale Center for Healing and Wholeness has a variety of durable equipment items available for loans of up to 3 months for community members recovering from surgery or wanting to do a "test run" with assistive equipment, or otherwise in need we provide. 

The Center is looking for a volunteer to manage this program which includes: 

- Reaching back out to individuals interested in loaning out equipment.

-Taking inventory of what the Center has and keeping track of the equipment.

-Documenting who loans out equipment. 

This opportunity is flexible and is a 1-2 hour a month commitment.

Volunteers spend time with individuals who have mild to moderate memory loss while their caregivers take a break or attend support groups and programs offered by the Center or others in the community.  Time commitment is flexible.

Volunteers provide socialization, meaningful activities and friendly visiting. Visits typcially  place in client’s home. 

The purpose and role of this position is to provide safe and nurturing support for the person with memory loss while giving their Caregiver (typically a spouse or family member) an opportunity to take a break from his/her care giving responsibilities. Provide visiting and activities that are meaningful and appropriate to the stage of memory loss. Memory Companion training session includes volunteer orientation and ongoing connection with Center Staff.
