Volunteer: Summer Community Day

Our mission at Small Sums is to outfit individuals experiencing homelessness with the work gear, tools, training, and transportation resources they need to start a new job.

Small Sums Community Day provides workers with additional tools to elevate their wages and increase access to long-term economic and housing stability.

This summer, we are partnering with the International Institute of Minnesota to provide more resources to more individuals!

We will offer resume support, LinkedIn registration, interview prep, FREE haircuts, and professional headshots. All materials will be provided to support our workers during your shift.

Are you a barber or photographer interested in giving back to our community? We could really use your help as well!
Email eurelll@smallsums.org to learn how you can get involved.

Pick a time slot that works for you and help support our mission and your community!

Note: 2 volunteers are needed at each station (Interview Prep, Resume Support, and LinkedIn registration). Upon checking in, you will be assigned to a station. If you have a preference on where you would like to serve, please note it during registration.

For any questions, please email tosht@smallsums.org.

We look forward to seeing you!

Volunteer: Small Sums Outreach: Flyer Distribution

Since 2005, Small Sums has outfitted thousands of workers with the gear, tools, training, and transportation they need to get to their first and next paycheck. Small Sums provides the support workers need to say yes to the job and the resources to move them toward long-term stability. But we cannot do it alone. We rely on community partnerships to ensure each new worker has the resources to retain gainful employment and secure safe, affordable housing. ‍

Do you want to help get the word out about Small Sums?

The flyer distribution gives us an opportunity to visit and connect with some of our current and potential new partners. Upon arrival at our office, all materials and a list of destinations will be provided to you. A staff member will accompany you.

The flyer distribution occurs on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month.

For more information, contact tosht@smallsums.org.

Volunteer: Host a Donation Drive for Small Sums!

Hosting a donation drive for Small Sums is easy, fun, and a great way to rally your crew around a good cause.

Here's how you can help:

Best Food Forward Drive: Help us stock up on sturdy work boots for folks stepping into new jobs.

Winter Coats: Wrap someone in warmth (and kindness!) by collecting cozy coats.

Seats & Feet Drive: Underwear and socks may not be glamorous, but trust us, they are pure gold for workers starting fresh.

Make it a party! Challenge your coworkers, neighbors, or friends to out-donate each other. Get creative—host a themed collection day (ugly sweaters and all) or make it a family project.

Ready to join the fun? We've got everything you need for success. Just reach out! Together, let's outfit workers and make their season bright!

Contact us to get started: tosht@smallsums.org.

Volunteer: Care Pack Drive & Assembly

When workers reach us, they have already found a verifiable job, a testament to their resilience and determination under daunting circumstances. In addition to boots, work clothing, tools, and bus passes, we are pleased to provide care packs of kindness to help ease their load.

We are looking for businesses, community groups, and neighbors to purchase travel-size hygiene products and Ziplock bags with them to bring comfort on the go for our workers.

This is a fun and easy way to support our workers!

If you are interested in hosting your own Care Pack Drive & Assembly, please email Tosh Thompson at tosht@smallsums.org.

Please note: This is a remote opportunity that occurs at your preferred location. Your group will be responsible for the purchasing and assembling of the care packs. We can provide you with suggestions of items based on needs and pricing. We can pick up the bags or you may drop them off at our office.

You can visit our Care Pack Wishlist for items that we include in our care packs.
